What a joy to see and hear this. BSR before they went to hell. I remember this mechanism in many great machines. I really want a Black Box now! Thanks for sharing.
Excellent! Thank you for sharing.! Pye Black Box players are very cool. I have two I imported from the UK to the states. Both of mine have Garrard RC121 changers and multivoltage mains provisions. There were so many variations of these machines.
What an early bsr deck! Those tonearms were shortly produced if I'm not wrong. Stabilizer arm, very british, doesn't allow large spindles (they did later) and the two knobs at the right side. 😃 Very nice. Really enjoyed this video. Thanks! By the way, I love Eartha!
what innards does it have? there was more than one version, even a transistorised one in that or the chinese lacquer version of that cabinet shape? i have the early version, triode connected 2 EL42, 1 ECC83, 1 EZ41
A lovey old Pye - such a beauty. (But wasn't this one, like mine, the Standard version rather than the Black Box?) Lord know where I left mine in various midnight moves... It was picked up in a Camden Town junk stall around 1980 for about a fiver! (Your one could even be my old Pye, saved from the scrap man. )
Is that model auto-changer pre- or post UA8 model for BSR? The layout is similar but the record support arm, though swinging in from the left, as per the UA8, doesn't have the "hook-style" that would wrap around a large-centre spindle adaptor for the BSR auto-changer models.
It's pre UA 8 ( 1957 ) Neil, The Black Box was introduced in 1953 and this is the first series BSR deck as supplied with the correct cartridge. They even carried the familiar enamelled red Pye badge at the far end of the pick-up tone arm .
@@Roger.Coleman1949 As I recall, the UA8 had *no* branding anywhere on it, as several different record player and radiogram makers would use that model of Auto-Stacker turntable(I've since learned that the Auto-Stacker type turntable was an Australian invention).
I have recently got a black box model BBA but I can't really figure out what the knobs do on the side. I know one of them turns it on but I can't really figure out which is the volume and which is the tone, they both seem to do volume. Any idea? Many thanks
I'm sure that the one that turns it on is the off on and volume so the other would be tone . But if its turning it up and down you might need the unit serviced capacitors ect
@@andystaffyman3711 what cleaner would you recommend? Also how would I access the pots? Is it something I can do from the outside and then turn the knobs to rub it in or will have to remove the deck and do it from the inside?
@@aces78s yes you aregoing to have to do it from inside for the best results. iv allways used servicesol contact cleaner spray you can find it on ebay ect
