@@trainerkai1313 Korra was terrible _compared_ to the Avatar. If it was a stand alone, it would have been seen as pretty good, but Avatar is literally so much better.
U forgot to mention how Toph can listen and feel everything around her so long as she's touching the ground which can be applied in sooooo many aspects of earth bending.
@@sintnorbertusparochie9145 But Toph takes it to another level. It seems because of her blindness and her increase in spirituality she can "see" her family across the world. She connects with the earth and nature. It seems like this is where earth bending could lead to.
It was also noted in a one of the team notes in the ATLB series that Toph is able to sense earth that isn’t connected to the ground and can easily dodge or redirect those attacks.
What about the rumored ability for earthbenders to continually reconstruct their bodies? This idea was hinted at heavily in the Kyoshi books and it's very possible Bumi was able to learn this technique.
I would interpret lavabending as seen by avatars kyoshi, roku, and the unnamed fire nation avatar, as a combination between fire and earth bending. True lava bending wasn’t invented, I feel, until gazan decided to add pressure to the earth he bent to just see what happened and became very skilled with this.
David Morales when you already have an affinity for fire bending, it makes sense that you would be able to apply that to your other abilities. So it’s possible that they weren’t truly bending lava, or that maybe it made lava bending easier for them
Honestly your concepts, ideas, and analysis spark so much newfound joy and fascination in the series, it's like I'm rediscovering it all over again. Thank you so much for this video series. I hope that if one day, they make a series about an Earthbending Avatar, they'll be able to expand it above and beyond like you theorized in this video.
Thats the next logical step since they're following the process of the avatars which always goes in order. Male Earthbender then Female firebender. Then again Roshi and Aang were male back to back. As long as the series proves to be marketable, Nickelodeon will push for another season. At most i would see them follow this route for 4 series just to balance it out and no more after that. I would also see them settling on the above layout as male earth and female fire to keep diverse balance in the protagonist lineup so everyone is happy.
@@KingRumar i agree w/the avatar line-up, i saw somewhere that the trend is male, female, male, female, male, repeat. So 3 male, then 2 female, according to the revealed recent avatar cycle we see in aangs visions, etc. Which is why roku and aang were dudes back-to-back

Well you are an earthbender. And u can manipulate any form or state of Earth anywhere it's present, even on u,so yeah. Create an Earth suit like Toph did,wear it and you'll fly...
Imagine all that earth immediately becoming stiff and rigid... well as a rock. My guess is you would break bones if you bended it the wrong way. It would take tons of precision, skill and training.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the next Avatar invents magnetic bending, the ability to create magnetic fields and bend metal more directly. After all, earth and metal are so related it makes sense, not to mention that the entire planet is a magnet. They could harness the planets magnetic field like how fire benders harness the sun.
Yeah, waterbenders get the moon, firebenders get the sun/Sozins comet. It makes sense that Earthbenders should have the Earth itself. Idk about air tho.
Cabbage Bending is the most powerful form of Bending. Cabbages are crops, which grow from water, so this form of bending gives the user access to Water Bending and all of it's practices. This also includes Earth bending because it's grown in the ground, along with everything Earth Bending has to offer like Lava Bending, Metal Bending, ect. Fire Bending also because if Fire attacks these cabbages, they're immune because they bend the fire away. Air Bending because, I'll let the replies explain :)
I haven't watched much of Avatar since I was a kid but there is an obvious advantage in Earth Bending. In Short There's a Reason why much of the Earth Nation and King Boomy were not F'd with for a good long while.
firebending is the best coz you can fly, freeze and heat stuff, shoot fire, shoot lightning, move super fast with lightning stepping, lava bend and cut through stuff
I'm not saying it's best but it's my 2nd favorite after water and idk why but I find earthbending quite intriguing as it is an element of endless possibilities. It has metal, lava, glass and sand bending and all of these things are the foundation of any industry or kingdom as a whole. Maybe in future we might see earthbenders doing bone bending as both bone n earth have quite same inorganic portion
Pure platinum is too soft for practical use. So those mechs are made out of a platinum alloy, most likely blended with nickel--a metal common in meteorites, which, as we saw, are typically used for training metalbenders. To bend platinum, a metalbender need only to find the bits of nickel within it and bend those, in what would be pretty much an identical process to what Toph did to invent metalbending. Interesting how you make earth out to be the true element of change. Earth does indeed change, and while it normally does so gradually, when a part of the earth does change suddenly, it REALLY changes. Catastrophically, in fact. And it takes years, even decades, for those changes to settle. We are definitely going to see some aftershocks in the Earth Kingdom for a while after the earthquake that was Kuvira. Another interesting thing to note is that the element that inflicts the greatest and most rapid change on earth is water--the traditional element of change. And whence comes the avatar directly associated with the Earth Kingdom's recent major change? The Water Tribe. Korra is definitely going to be directly involved in just about every process of rebuilding of the Earth Kingdom as a viable nation, and her handiwork will be evident in some way.

i personally feel bolin discovered lava bending because of the bond with his brother and his fire bending. bolin came to understand fire bending by being around and fighting with mako. it's not like fire on fire bending hence lightning (possibly plasma), or earth refined earth thus metal, but a fusion of fire and earth. just like the sand benders possibly incorporating a little air to fan the vehicles. and when youre 100% in all bending you are the avatar. but in this series the title is given and you work your way up to understand the four elements
What if in the future, a prodigy earthbender learns to bend the minerals within the human body? (Iron, salt, etc) Could an earthbender manipulate salts? (Maybe if there was a really salty water body, could they technically waterbend?) (Also, salt farming is quite a business, and much with the use of Earthbending)
Yes, absolutely and canonically. Before Legend of Korra it was speculated to be an Avatar only thing, because the nature of lava being earth and fire. I think lava bending comes completely naturally to the avatar because it's practically Earth+Fire to make rock molten, and the movement of it is Water. You know what else I'd like to learn some more about? If the Avatar would be an amazing sandbender. It's like Water+Earth, and sometimes Earth+Air (when they're making the dust storms to power their desert boats.)

Roku was able to bend lava because he was a powerful earthbender, and lava is just earth in a liquid state of matter. Mud on the other hand is a combination of earth and water, therefore it could be bent by earthbenders and waterbenders. That’s the distinction I’m trying to point out.
It's still just very molten rocks. It may be very hot, but its rock non the less. It wouldn't make much since for fire benders to bend an entirely different element
Here’s my theory how it’s an earth bending technique. They most likely have to focus on every part of earth (atoms and molecules) then rapidly cause them to move around rapidly in order to cause high amounts of friction to cause them to heat up enough to become molten rock. Fire bending most likely focuses on controlling the heat/plasma created from their chi and other sources of heat/plasma. Making it almost impossible to control molten rock just by controlling the heat/plasma that makes up magma
This is random but I had a lucid dream where I was an earthbender like in ALTA and it was dope. And for some reason I searched this ups. Now I low key wanna do the other elements in my dreams lol.
I can think of many cool things I can do with bending. I could use air bending to blow up my opponents lungs, water bending to dehydrate my opponent, and idk if fire bending can do this, but if it can, I would use it to create excess heat in light, to make a laser beam (like in dragonball)

I have a theory about Lava benders. I think that to lava bend you have to be a child of a fire and earth bender. I also think that it removes the ability to metal bend.
I have to say I'd take Airbending, mostly because you could be your own spaceship. Just create a pressurized sphere and vent air for propellant. You have you're a walking atmosphere.
A country's size doesn't always have to contribute to progression. Take Japan and Korea for example. They are much smaller than the U.S. but they are really progressives with it's cultural and technological influence.
I think the first lava bending I saw was in the first series during the solstice at the fire sage Temple when Avatar Roku pulled the lava straight up out of the volcano to destroy it in the Avatar state.
You could bend platinum if you heat up a metal you can bend and bond it to it such as copper, gold, nickel I think it would be cool to see BONEBENDING as a villain’s power. They would only be able to bonebend after SLAMMING into someone so it could not be as stealthy as bloodbending. Glassbending would be cool because you could have hot and “cold” glass bending styles. One with molten glass and the other with glass shards
Having been a longtime fan of this franchise (both series as well as the comics), I have always liked all the elements but my favourite one out of all of them is straight up Earthbending. At first when you look at it, Earthbending is stubborn, which is complimentary to the Earth benders and their personalities. But as both LoK and ATLA progressed we started to see different types of Earthbending develop. Because of this, I consider Earthbending to be probably one of the most versatile types of bending around. Furthermore, because of what has been seen in both series, whose to say that this concept can't be introduced into other types of elements/metals such as Titanium and Iron. I guess the other reason I like Earthbending is I often associate myself with the colour green. Either way, great analysis and after having watched this and other videos (and seeing that you are posting new content), you've just got yourself a new subscriber. :D
Lavabending is an ability that only the Avatar can perform-not anyone else. If you watch ATLA Avatar Extras version of Season 2: Episode 1 "The Avatar State," it is clearly stated "Lava bending is a combination of earthbending and firebending." So that means the Avatar, who possesses the ability to control earth and fire, are able to manipulate the two together to perform lavabending...but only in the Avatar State as seen when: • Avatar Yangchen's predecesor (who is still unnamed) forced lava to flow out of four small volcanoes • Avatar Kyoshi used it to separate a peninsula from Chin the Conquerer. (That new island would be named Kyoshi Island) • Avatar Roku using it to divert lava out of his village following a volcanic explosion • Avatar Roku, this time through Aang's body, used it to destroy a Fire Nation temple on Crescent Island In ATLA, the shows creators Michael and Bryan solely made limitations in order to establish ground rules on what can be done and by who. Unfortunately, they threw out those methods, and added lavabending in TLoK as an ability granted to any earthbender just to appeal to fans...especially those who are starting to lose hope of the show's quality of storytelling and canon to ATLA.
I had a pretty dark headcanon that sato was using captured earth benders and fire benders(that or hiring them then having amon find and incapacitate them when they were done to keep them from talking) to help them find all that platinum, kinda like reverse metal bending, sensing what they cant bend within the earth, and pulling it out , and obviously the firebenders helping smelt them

Hey Slice! You know how Toph is credited as the inventor of metalbending? I noticed in multiple episodes in the latter half of Book 2 that the Dai Lei appear to be using chains seemingly made from pure metal in order to handcuff and drag people from across the room while remaining out of sight. Are they metalbending?!? This would mean that the discipline would have been around before Toph was even born, yet it’s possible that they were trained that way secretly, and because Toph’s such a prodigy she figured it out and made it something for everyone to enjoy. I would love to hear your input on this!!
I don't think so. The world of Avatar still relies somewhat on physics. To pull a planet closer to you, you would have to have greater mass than the sun. And with a mass scale like that, gravity would pretty much mash any living thing.
Someone probably already made this comment but oh well. As to the absurd amount of platinum in LOK. There are microscopic particles of pretty much every metal in even a cubic foot of dirt. (Amount of various elements can vary. One patch may contain more iron, one more gold, some radioactive metals ect.) So if metal benders cant bend platinum, then they would just have to mud bend a giant amount of slurry and everything left behind would be the elements they cant bend, as platinum is very dense and would most likely settle to the bottom of said slurry, so they could increase platnium production exponentially from a regular quarry. An industrial genius like MR.Sato would've been able to figure out something like this and employ expert earth benders to size up the operation (maybe in exchange with Amon to keep their bending? Or he just didnt tell them why he needed so much of such a rare earth element. ) to the mass production scale we see in the show.
Alot of people forget the Aang compressed rock! Than split it into small projectiles and fired it like bullets. Effectively making those bullets into explosions. Think about it. Compressing a very large boulder into a marble. Than throwing it to high orbit than crashed down hitting a target would like a nuclear explosion. Just food for thought. Haha
I’m surprised you didn’t mention Roku. He was a lava bender too. He used the lava to melt his temple in Last Airbender when he possessed aang after all

The wall that the lavabend destroy is the wall of upper ring which is different from that huge outer wall that even Iroh only able to destroy a tiny part of it..
What I'd love to see in the Avatar series is element combo. Eg. Fire and wind or water and wind to make explosion or storm. Or water and earth to make deluge or all element to make catastrophe. I mena that would be cool and possible. I mean even water and fire can make hot water or even antipod.

Being an Aries. The element I'm associated with based off my zodiac would be fire🔥. When I first learned this I started laughing because as a kid I've always had a hot temper, and I use to play with fire when no one was around to stop me. Maybe there's something more to humans and the elements we have yet to uncover.
Toph has always been and will always be my Fav Character of the series! From the first moment she was introduced with a flying boar, to her as an elderly woman! And I love her Daughters too, such strong women and so inspiring! Happy International Women's Day!!!
As deadly as all the elements can be when used a certain way especially in the hands of a master, I just can't shake how ridiculously overdestructive lava bending can be. Even unintentionally, the damage to property and life would be too great imo. I mean, who in their right mind would want to fight someone who can spontaneously summon lava knowing what it would do if even the spray got on you while you defended yourself? Plus, just as earthbenders can shift the land you stand on, shifting a wide area to lava during a fight would just about end any aggression if not outright incapacitate the opponent. At least when it was originally limited to an Avatar in the Avatar state standing nearby a source of lava, the overpoweredness of the element was significantly kept at bay and made sense to be as devastating as it was given those very restricted criteria.
Personally I was always disappointed that my zodiac sign left me as an Earth Bender (if I was in the Avatar universe) Fire and Water always appealed to me mostly because of how awesome they look, fire’s raw power and accessibility, water for its healing factor, in fact I believe blood bending doesn’t necessarily mean evil. If we think about human anatomy being able to bend someone’s blood if their heart stopped or they has a blockage in an artery, remove toxins in the blood stream etc. Earth felt boring to me, but I see how it can have some excitement too it.
Can we talk about how fluid Toph bends earth, she floats exactly like a Waterbender similar to when the Northern and Southern water tribes were at siege. Like Iroh mentioned how Lightning took on Waterbending movement Toph bends earth to a very similar degree with no hand movements she was floating around Korra :O
I took a test and have always admired Earth as a cool and progressive element also. I thought it was the coolest because its the most versatile wind sand bending, even bending muck and sediment, bending lava and metal. Way cooler than fire/lightning, air, or water bending. (Water is a close second for coolness) The culture of the Earth benders was always my favorite too.
I know it was never stated, but I always assumed that “platinum” was just a euphemism for high-carbon steel. It would explain why their is so much of the stuff and why the characters would seemingly choose to use such a soft metal for armor plating. Also, it makes sense since metalbenders bend the impurities in metal, and high carbon steel is notorious for lacking these impurities.
@@the11382 You do realize how dirty coal is, right? And by “dirty,” I mean literally made of dirt. The “good,” as in most fuel efficient, coal is at best about 8% hydrocarbons (the stuff you burn to the generate heat) the rest is just inert matter that gets disposed of as ash. It’s no surprise that earthbenders can bend coal like it’s regular earth.
Maybe the comet that allowed the fire nation to attack was actually a meteorite with lots of platinum in it? We know platinum is much more abundant in space than on earth.
If earth benders can change the *temperature of earth to lava bend* than maybe they would be able to *control the temperature of metal* as well allowing them to turn metal molten while they bended it (which could also make it easier to control since the metal would be softer?)
Metal bending was originally toph moving the impurities in cast iron, to influence the whole area. It wasn't that metal could just me turned into anything. So pure steel should have been a material hard enough for the world to produce to prevent mass production of mechs. Much easier to say machines made entirely of pure metals are hard to make, than say platinum might be rare and hard to make mechs with? Would be cool if everyone can bend iron but only toph and few others can bend steel. It's like saying there were solid gold mechs but gold was easy to find
Maybe certain types of bending are mixes of others seeing as Bo Lin has a fire bending brother maybe lava is made from people with a lot of fire and earth benders and sand is air nomads that fled from the temples into the deserts and joining earth ended culture and metal is just very pure earth bending like a isolationist family such as the Bey Fong family
Heres some earth bending potential Water bending and earth bending is similar. Only really if earth benders are master mud benders or lava benders, the two liquid earth sub bending styles Also blood bending in water bending can be backed up by carbon bending which we see in book 1 in avatar the last air bender. Expect we wouldn’t need to control coal but the carbon inside somebodies body. There is less carbon in a body then blood but its possible. You could also fly by pushing earth in air while grabbing it. Like water bending taking the humidity out of the air to get water earth can take the carbon out of carbon dioxide. House building could be really fast. Take the concrete melt it put it in the wall formation then melt it easily and BOOM BATA BING solidify it and get ur house
