Oh fun fact about the running,it doesn't boost encounter rates or even act as a real run button! The running is a debug tool the English localizer left in as QoL,all it does is run the game at double speed without touching stuff like music. If you watch the NPCs will move more frequently when running cause of it

These zombie imitators are so good that they actually crumble to dust when you defeat them. Amazing. Fun fact: Pippi is also Clefairy's name in Japanese. It's no wonder she has the attack growth of a demon.

I'm so glad you started with Mother 1! It definitely aged but it's still a fun world with so much personality!

Late but stat guide: FIGHT - Determines hit, evade, and SMAAAASH!! hit rate and avoid. SPEED - Determines turn order. WISDOM - Determines success rate of certain items. STRENGTH - Determines HP increase on level ups. FORCE - Determines PP increase on level ups, also determines resistance to certain status ailments. OFFENSE - Attack power. Increases alongside FIGHT on level ups. DEFENSE - Defensive power. Increases alongside SPEED on level ups. HP - You know what this is. Increases according to STRENGTH. PP - Psychic Points. Increases according to FORCE.

So excited to watch Asprey play through the Mother series! Mother 1 in particular is actually my favorite game in the series, and it is CRIMINALLY underrated, so I'm very happy to see he didn't skip it ^^

The composers even recorded a studio album of the game's music, with real instruments and vocals. If you like the overworld theme, check out "Pollyanna" sung by Catherine Warwick. Looking forward to the rest of this series!

hope you enjoy this series! mother 1 is rough but its a fun enough time of you can get past the old NES game design. the mother series is one that i think gets progressively better with each installment but each is still a pretty good time overall.

Duuuuude I have literally been so excited for you to play Mother!!!! I have a special appreciation for this game in particular, since both Earthbound and Mother 3 already have so much distinct about them. I think this game is really not that bad grinding-wise, and has some story elements that AREN'T reused later that makes it worth playing for people who liked the others. Time for snacks and a lovely 3 hours. Welcome to this series, it's one of my favorites.

Yay! I’m so excited for Asprey to play this series! It’s so good!!! Can be tedious at times, confusing, and hard, but the payoff is so good in the end

I've never played or seen someone play this game, but Earthbound is my favorite game of all time. Seeing all the 'proto' characters, enemies, and music in this game is hitting all the nostalgia buttons.

I'll be very real on how glad I am you did this. I just personally cant get into the little issues the mother series has with its combat, how item/storage works, revival systems etc. But fully admit it is a series absolutely worth looking into. So its nice to see someone I like play one without it just being a essay on a game or the games in the series.

O.O' I know it has nothing to do with me, but I recently started streaming Mother 3 for a group of friends, and I was wondering if you'd ever do the Mother series. Lo and behold, you ARE! Oh gosh, that timing is so perfect it's creepy, yet I love it! I hope you'll be able to cover the entire trilogy, but do take your time with playing the trilogy. The important thins is to enjoy yourself while you play. I'm just happy you're even playing the Mother series! :D

Something to keep in mind about the earthbound series, at least the first two games, they can be hard in certain ways that aren't super fun. But they're also very charming and seriously influenced the games industry as a whole.

I've long been a fan of the Earthbound series, but I feel like i didnt really "get" Beginnings until after I played the NES Dragon Quest (or Dragon Warrior) games a few years ago. Now its one of my most favorite games ever, right up there with the second game.

A couple things to note for this game, without any spoilers: -There are a couple areas where you might want to look up a game map because they are very large and easy to get lost in. -You definitely aren't railroaded into finding all the melodies. You need to go out of your way to find a few of them. -Hotels/home is for restoring HP. Hospitals are for reviving teammates, doctors/healers are for removing status afflictions. -I think there is only one point in the game where you are required to use your telepathy specifically. Otherwise, it's just treated as a passive ability.

by "zombie imitator" i thought it meant a zombie that imitates being a living person hence why theres some posing as townsfolk

this game is so different from all other rpgs. but to be honest, the graphics would have totally turned me off, haha. now i think that's interesting they tried something new.

Commenting before watching very far... Wonder if this version is revised a bit. Theres a fan-mod for the original rom that drastically cuts back on some battles and increases exp to reduce grinding, the original was pretty bad about that. Edit 40m later: Nope, definitely is not the 'easy mode' lol......8 battles in like less than 30 steps.

Mother 1 is a game all about buffing your party. It'll help you skip a lot of the grind if you use it whenever you're struggling

I feel like the closest we ever got to a 3D/Modern version of the Mother games was Chulip, though that being a RPG is kind of debatable, but the spirit of an adventure in modern times as well as the art style is kept really well.

I could only play the gba fan made translation version it included it was alot more enjoyable than this version for me
