You’re really going to enjoy Mother 3’s soundtrack. There’s a mechanic in the game where you have to time your hits to the tempo of the battle music. So later on in the game, the battle themes become more complex to try and trip you up.

Giygas definitely sets those with tinnitus off. And someone in the comment section mentioned that there is no enemy sprite for Giygas. Giygas _is the background._ It also emphasizes just how much his evil nature and power has grown. Going into the background means that his influence has spread across the confines of reality itself. Going beyond our comprehension, into something that we _shouldn't_ understand at all. Try to think about it, you might go a little... crazy.

Fun note about "The Place" is that it's just the first note sampled from the song "Deirdre" by the Beach Boys, it's just the Beach Boys singing "DEEEEEEEE--" over and over at different pitches, and yet it sounds so abstract and eerie because of that!

The Super Dry Dance is actually way more atmospheric in-game as you're walking through a desert and the melody fades in as you get closer to the town
@brianarsuaga5008
@brianarsuaga5008 2 года назад
In case you didn't guess: the eight melodies tracks you heard with the big buffers around them, several times, are part of melodies (like triforce pieces) you collect as you progress through the game. The song they compose ("eight melodies") isn't clear until near the end of the game. Watching you catch it and strum along in real time was precious and an excellent recreation of what we felt back then. You said you messed up, but truly, it was perfect because you messed up. Back then, we were hearing it for the first time, too.
@brianarsuaga5008
@brianarsuaga5008 2 года назад
The 8 pieces of them are played in three different scenarios. One, (the first in the soundtrack) are played in complete isolation, as you discover the pristine environments that hum their few notes to you. Again, when you play the "sound stone" which relays them back to you, with no percussive thrum behind them, leaving a whining dead space for the pieces you haven't unlocked yet. The third, when you play the full thing, with the thrumming that connects them with a tempo that is just a little adjusted to make it a single piece.

Smiles and Tears is emotional enough on its own within the game's context, but I and so many others associate it so heavily with the passing of the late and great Satoru Iwata. It really REALLY chokes me up every time i hear it. Listening to it in full completely breaks me, and when it gets to the "I Miss You" I straight up start sobbing. I'm 27 now, I was 20 when Iwata passed, mature enough for it to really feel impactful.

I played Earthbound when I was 8 and actually finished the game when I was 16, my current age. Smiled and Tears made me cry. All the characters that I’ve seen since I was 8 leaving before my very eyes, and hearing the Eight Melodies one final time (called Smiles and Tears in the end credits), and seeing all the pictures the Photo Man took of Ness on his adventure in different locations made me tear up. And the “I miss you”… At that part I was already sobbing

So, an interesting bit of lore for "The Power": At this point in the game, you have gone through Ness' subconscious and defeated every single bit of evil inside him and are given the power of the planet itself (which is also why this game is called "EarthBound"). Ness, the protagonist, basically is now the opposite of the final boss. True Good vs True Evil. This game is absolutely amazing. I hope my explaination lets you imagine what is happening in-game. Context is what makes this game's soundtrack even better

so - 24:49, The Floating Kingdom of Dalaam... The song is quite literally a sort of East Asian-style arrangement of the chorus of one of Keiichi Suzuki's (the composer of Mother 1 and Earthbound) own tracks, "Words, Colours, Noises, And Booms", from his album "White Report". I think it's really a cool self-reference that's juxtaposed against the mass of western-influenced songs and references seen in the western-themed locations. (definitely recommend listening to his work, he even recently did a revisit of the Mother 1 OST in his own unique style - a really cool contrast to the original version of the soundtrack released alongside the game. lol) Also, I'm a video late, but I'm pretty sure Dr. Andonuts' Lab is heavily influenced by, if not directly a reference to, the ambient works of Brian Eno. And on a last note, I SUPER recommend the works of Saeko Suzuki (collaborator and ex-wife of Keiichi Suzuki) - Her particular style is pretty great, and I personally really love the albums "Visinda og Leyndardómur" and "The Law of the Green". Definitely worth a listen! (also there's absolutely no way the bicycle theme in Earthbound wasn't inspired at least in part by the first track from the latter of those two albums!)

Fun fact about Pokey Means Business' 8-bit part. All of the chip parts? Don't even use the 8-bit chip that's included in the SNES. They use sampled chiptune sounds, similar to a soundfont. The reason for this is likely because of the metal part. Can't exactly use more channels, as that's pretty much impossible. The metal part already uses them all up, so it only makes sense to simply just replace the sample when it needs to be replaced.

How does Poo refuel Ness
@Dhalin
@Dhalin 2 года назад
@@rofai-ek9903 Who knows. lol. It was just one of those silly things that you just smile and nod about. It's a bit unreliable as Poo can refuel anybody in the group, even himself, or he could simply use any of the attacks the refueling bot has instead of doing the refueling thing, but, there were always these times where the RNG played nice and he'd use it on people who needed it, and in that game, healing is so very precious. Having a guaranteed 100% full heal was always cool when it happens, especially when it's free and costs no PP at all.

@@rofai-ek9903 Don't ask questions you aren't prepared the answer to. Also Poo's mirror ability has literally never worked for me every single time I've tried using it, what's the success rate for that?

So I'm like a year late on this, but one thing i keep thinking about is how mp3 did not exist at the time of the game release, so any ode to existing music was also somewhat special at the time in a way we can easily take for granted in games these days

A large part of me wants very heavily to entice you to look at the Final Fantasy 14 soundtrack but it's such a huge soundtrack that picking out even a setlist for you to react to would be quite an accomplishment. Still though...

A game with a beautiful soundtrack is Ori Will of the Wisps. It's the second game in the Ori series. While Ori and the Blind Forest also has gorgeous music, I think Ori and the Will of the Wisp's music has more going on, and would be a pretty good fit for you to react to! So many glorious strings. Though both games would obviously be awesome too~

Great reaction :) Love Earthbound. Not sure who sent you this version, but I think they should have sent the soundtrack version and not the whole sound of the game.... With Mother 3 I believe there is just the soundtrack.

During the soundtrack "song" Giygas's lair, it's interesting to note that the wind sounds that are being played are actually Giygas's breathing. It's also interesting to note that you are going to/are fighting a literal fetus in order to stop him from wiping out humanity in the future.

before you do mother 3, do earthbound beginnings. there are a few reasoins to do it in that order, but the biggest of which is that mother 3 references the soundtrack of the first two games, leading to some heartbreaking through-lines in the story that wouldn't have the same weight otherwise.
