Water is precious, treat it as such. earthship.com/S...
Water is caught from a roof with a potable surface. From the roof, the water is channeled through silt catches into cisterns. Cisterns are sized to the local climate and are best buried and completely protected from the sun. The water from the cistern is gravity-fed into a Water Organizing Module with a pump and filter. The pump pushes the water into a pressure tank to supply code required water pressure. The filters clean the water for consumption and cleaning.

I think the copper pipe is heated by the sun on the front and melts the snow in the winter faster. By melting the snow, it will not evaporate and you increase your water yield. It may also be safer to have less snow on the roof...

Growing up in the Virgin Islands, before potable water and desalination plants, we had to catch water this way when it rained. Each house had a cistern that caught the water and we had to use it wisely because no one wanted to have to buy water. It's amazing to me that these methods are now being reintroduced in the Inited States.

The copper pipes are for the prevention of ice damming in cold climates. It uses very little energy & is very low maintenance (multiple energy sources can be utilized on same system, including passive) . However it is an imperative in cold climate regions. 1. Earthship water source is 100% rain catchment. 2. Prevents damage to back fill/berm & gutter. [Specific to new Global Model design with metal roof.] Vaulted & Green Roof systems differ from this design feature. This is simply a standardized method that Mike Reynolds and or his team decided on. Hope this explanation is helpful.

Spent some money on copper .. time to spurge on a good HD cam ...good vid I assume the piping is connected to a solar heater to avoid Icing .. would definitely need that here on the NW Coast

We have been working on an earthship retrofit. Just curious, what type of metal do you use for your rain gutters? We are collecting rainwater in our cistern & I want to get rid of the vinyl. Copper is financially restrictive, and I'm out on aluminum. Is steel safe for drinking water even if it's galvanized?

Yes, definitely interested in what the copper pipe is for.

+PrognatusSeptem - So I'm guessing they're running hot water, or warm air through the copper pipe?

The copper melts ice and snow and keeps water flowing into your cistern.

Alright, I did some looking around and all I can find is stuff about getting copper out of harvested rain water. Does water run through there and when the sun is out you get hot water? That's a lot of copper pipe, but the places it goes I just can't wrap my head around??

Can anyone tell me if they been or their living right now can anybody tell me is there an actual filter that filters out and get rid of any germs or the debris or diseases of the water like made me any bugs or any pesticides very small that you have to use a microscope where use the water don't you want to drink healthy clean water and that's actually what you should always need not dirty. Is that filter strong enough to actually clean everything as what you should always and supposed to be drinking regularly the water that you buy from the store like water bottles or a 10-gallon water cooler heater / dispenser is it that strong if it's not that strong how can you make it as clean as if you buy it because nobody same thing with me don't want to drink dirty water I can understand Earthship in the hall and you're trying to buy things the cheapest price as possible. You also need to take care of yourself and be healthy. Not just saying cheap how can the tires be strong enough for a wall that is ridiculous because I seen people building earthships and they show you how they make the wall and they're made from tires and the videos I actually have seen them in RU-vid how can just saying a walk Tire be strong enough so it will not fall like in a tornado or a hurricane impossible I actually have tried like an experiment in my house a plastic tub in other words if you don't know what that is it's like a plastic container tell me a container that you take your lunch with I need a big container maybe as big as where you put your dog food in any way I also used a drying rack for dishes put that rack inside of the tub as I stimulate a tornado and a hurricane but I used abnormal manual handheld plastic bottle like dastani just a normal water bottle simulate the sand inside of the tires the bottles were filled with water so I punched it and they all fell so if a tornado or hurricane happens how can you be safe and not make the building fall same with a person just a normal person that it might be new at this and they don't know how to construct anyting it's also still if you hire people that know how to do this how can you be safe if you may or may not built correctly so I might fall on you and it for tornado or hurricane may destroy it the only way I can think of to make it strong and don't fall is using mimicking how the galvanized steel wire connected in gabion walls but I'm still using that specific wire I don't remember the name but I think it's called the rebar wire I researched it and it looks like the metal rod for construction it also something else. I have found is the steel footing I'm not sure if that is it. anyway I wouldn't use that metal thing and I would mimic as if look like a gabion wall. If you don't know what wire i'm talking about it's like a very long & very thick metal or steel maybe both I don't rembember but it soppese to mimick I guess I can explane this is that it suppose to look like Gabion wall but intstead of rocks inside i keep it empty I put that wire thing a little bit inside of the dirt & just a little bit at the same time as much as possible some parts outside poking out some parts inside of the dirt so it's strong enough for the wall not fall for any pitcular reason like falling becuase the humans hirricane or tornado. Another thing when making the tires for the wall is there any other alternative to make it easier and more faster and does not make you as tired or take as long as tires do make the wall for the Earthship. And another thing is if anybody can help me and tell me if anyone knows a alternative for tires stronger and doesn't break easily more resistant possibly maybe even forever another thing is if anyone knows what that wire wall is called them please tell me the wire used for construction if anyone knows I would really appreciate it the nursing is if anyone will tell me that every building one way or the other is going to destroy by Nature a tornado or a hurricane I know that but believe it or not there's actually some buildings that is design for it is guaranteed but it's not one hundred percent it's only 80% that I will not break they will break some parts but not the whole thing of the house understand don't tell me there's no such thing as a house being broken I know that but some houses even though there's no such thing it's somewhat proof of not breaking some parts of the house other parts of the house or a building it will stay how it originally looked again in some parts of the building or the house the whole house will not be one hundred percent not destroyed but only 80% another thing is some houses might or might not be destroyed maybe lucky or not lucky that's how unfortunately and that's the way it is that's how nature works. Another thing is I want to repeat myself hopefully if anyone knows the construction Rod or wire I'm not sure what it is for constructioning buildings I would really appreciate it. And I know Constructioning isn't a word you're insane a reason why I used it is to describe what I'm saying okay. So please if anyone knows please tell me what that construction Rod or wire Also if anyone knows how the tires make the wall strong and not fall and if it's strong enough to not crumble then tell me and another thing is if anyone knows what is the name of the construction Rod or wire that please tell me I would really appreciate it.

So the copper pipe adds some copper particles to the water? Use copper and silver to filter?
@justgivemethetruth

so would a penny
@overlogg

yep, copper is known to be anti bacterial...silver as well..silver pipes would cost a fortune lol... Also, the copper could be used to heat water through the pipe to prevent freezing in the winter time... serves more than one purpose from what I can tell.

Thank you for your respond. I have been scratcing my head over the solar panels and the usage over power, how many Kw solar package is needed, I am at moment looking at a 16Kw Complete Off Grid Solar PV System, Outback Equipment and 48V Traction Battery. is it to much power for a small farmhouse and fish hatchery and my adobe straw bail house? i am sorry for my miss'spelling english.

I bet it is to melt ice in the winter if it ice dams. Or perhaps to melt snow as it hits the roof as it tends to evaporate before it melts and goes into the cistern.

justgivemethetruth That's the way they roll here. Should've seen how long it took to get the one washed-out road fixed. The north end was open, though; sorta. That said, Mike's a fucking genius.
