The execution and presentation of EWJ and EWJ2 is brilliant. Such an interesting & surreal art style and weird ideas. Reminds me of Courage The Cowardly Dog, although EWJ came out first.
I never thought about it but Jim could 100% exist in Nowhere and it would not seem out of place. Hell, Peter Puppy in the show is basicaly Courage with the ability to speak normal and hulk out when you think about it.
Yea VERY similar to courage...perhaps its where john dillworth was inspired from this game... I still cant believe this is running on a genesis...this looks like Saturn quality graphics

I liked the second game better than the first. The level design made it so you're more focused on the fun and was more forgiving if you screwed up. The damn underwater level from the first game was a damn headache.
@@scorpionwins6378 what level is your favorite ? For me its that level inside ants colony .. because you could shape the surrounding by shooting the sands.. it felt so interactive , at that time it was rare to be able to interact with your level.. so i found it very cool :D
this game was a highlight of my childhood. might just have to make a romhack of this one day. what an iconic game. deserves Mario-level clout, in my opinion. it was playful, clever, creative, fun, and just kept you coming back. i could literally still tell you a lot about each of the levels and it has been over 20 years since i played this.
I remember being a kid and feeling smug with myself that I completed this game and haha, its only 50 minutes for a play-through and only 9 levels, what a strange, strange experience.
Watching this play through makes me remember when I was little and playing my Sega Genesis and Granddad rented this game for me to play. I only got to where Jim made it to the chair lift. Still had fun despite being bad at the game in hindsight.
hint: in Puppy Love levels use B to make Jim turn around. This makes catching puppies and items way easier if they are falling in adjacent rows. You can also make him jump far with A.
Thank you for posting the whole playthrough of one of the most mesmerising games that I have played and loved. The soundtrack and the game play is just awesome even though the game itself is pointless.... there are elements that brings back so many memories .... its as if my brain just unlocked after hearing these sounds. Incredible! And especially during the Covid-19 times.... these small aspects of life means ridiculously important! Thank you yet again for making me smile!!!!!! Respect !!!!! What can I say about this game!When I first started it and saw that SEGA logo with the graphics and animation I almost lost my mind,honestly!I honestlty did not believe this is a 16 bit hardware!It was as if I am playing directly with a character straight out of a cartoon.I've never been so impressed by a video game to this day,and I am a gamer from around 26/27 years.Not exaggerating!
noted secret. (if anyone cares) for the snes version....when you beat a level and see those two cows...hit x, b, y, or a, and the cow will say "well done" in a different toned voice.

Well, other then some purposefully frustrating minigames and the problem of enemies launching their attack from outside the frame, not letting a newcomer prepare for it.
+Se05239 Yeah. I hated it so so very much when I was child. Thankfully it wasn't instagib if you failed 4 times but you just lost 30% instead of forced to start all over again. I think that's the reason why I eventually finished this game, because it was so forgiving. Nowadays games have a lot more instagib elements in them.
Me:ok first level lets see 2nd level: hmm some kind of maze level? Ok let's go 3rd one: some kind of bonus? 4rd one: jim's now a blind cave salamander... why in the name of fucks is mosart playing 5th one: is this even a plataformer any more?
I agree that Earthworm Jim 1 was better, though some of the humour in Earthworm Jim 2 (like the "Villi People"/blind cave salamander level and the ending itself, were phenomenal). I personally enjoed the "Puppy Love: levels as a mechanic/ comedic story, but I agree with you thar there were far too many of them. On a side note, sorry for nitpicking but the first game is technically not a prequel. Yes it's story takes place before Earthworm 2, but for a work to be considered a prequel it must be a literary, dramatic, or filmic work whose story precedes that of a work made previously (like the infamous Star Wars prequels as example, their story takes place before the original trilogy, but the key point is that they came out after the original trilogy), since the Earthworm Jim (1994) game the was very first entry made in its franchise it can't be qualified as a prequel. Basically Earthworm Jim 2 is Earthworm Jim (1994)'s sequel, but that doesn't make Earthworm Jim (1994) Earthworm Jim 2's prequel, that's not how the word works.

Thus the Star Wars prequels, or Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom being a prequel to Raiders of the Last Ark, even though Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom came out 3 years later. these were days when game creators had passion, Earthworm games were labour of passion the dev's and management just wanted make insane game and have players actually have fun

На 3:20 мой любимый уровень начинается и саундтрек прикольный. С юности полюбил такие уровни за то как там можно формировать сам уровень своим оружием. Полюбилось ещё в Contra 2 на Денди (не помню честно, но там зелёные шары взрываешь чтобы опуститься вниз). Ща Minicraft.
I always wondered when Jim said Whoopie in EWJ2 he sounded like he had a bad sore throat compared to how it sounded in EWJ1. also look at how happy the pig looked on the slide.
They need to make an old school Earthworm Jim 3 game for the Ps5 & Xbox series X. Like what Capcom did. When they released Mega man 10 for the Ps3 and Xbox 360. :)
sadly Earthworm Jim 3 already exists, it's Earthworm Jim 3D. But it's terrible so I'm fine if they erase it from canon lol. Sadly, Earthworm Jim 4 was coming but is seemingly cancelled cause the people making it didn't make their console it was going to be on.
I lived with my friends uncle as a kid and he always had a black book of movie titles that he would tell you the whole story of if you asked him. We played this game to death, fuck how'd I get so old.
I need a to know something, wich version is better SNES or GENESIS? No fanboys answers please I need facts. I know first version of this game on Genesis has one more level that the same game on SNES. I have both consoles and I want this game for my collection.
I think you have to make your own opinion. There are little differences which some people like and other people hate. I think that the Genesis version had a better soundtrack, but the SNES had better backgrounds

As a kid, I rented this and got to the See Jim Run level. I had no idea how to get past those barriers that come down. I was stuck and thought I was soft locked, though I didn't know that's what it was called at the time. I kept trying to whip it open to no avail. I thought I was too slow to get by them. After all this time, I learn that all I had to do was shoot them.....🤦♂️
@20:13 I remember having PTSD from this stage from fear those lilttle puppies splattering just wrecked my nerves lol...it really is AMAZING what u could get away with back in those day's!!.(this game made made No sense & was completely off the Rails!! BUT it so well done & STILL SO DAM FUN TO PLAY!! Lamooo...😆🤣 & it luv'd 1 but pt.2 was the Best in my opinion!!
This game is better experienced on the Super Nintendo anyday. But the first game is 100% better on the Genesis. Still Tommy Tallarico got something good out of the GEMS driver here, but he did that better in the first game. I just don't think the FM chip suits this one, despite it still being a good version of the game.
this reminds me that not all games have to be normal. this game was fucking weird as hell , the music was great and fun as fuck to play. what happened to games? i haven't had fun playing one, truly fun in very long time. that competative rush doesn't count cause it leaves you ultimately stressed. i miss video games pre-online.
me acuerdo cuando lo jugaba en el sega, la parte mas dificil era puppy love, que si te cain los cachorros el perro se jodia o el padre, me acuerdo que cuando se terminaba los 4. se convertía en un perro rabioso y te quitaba energias, la única forma de ganar, era lanzandole las bombas que lanzaba psycrow. la musica que se oye en el 3er nivel o cuarto es de beethoven. jim se disfraza de no se que cosa que tiene que recorrer toda la caverna. ese nivel me costaba un poco. es mejor este o el primero?
NOW HOLD ON A MINUTE! The song! The Puppy Love song! It's extremely similar to the one used when delivering pizza in Spiderman 2 for PS2!!! O.O (Part of it at least!)
Nobody finds it odd one of the bosses is a living steak on a plate in an open pizza box on a cheesy pepperoni pizza and the steak uses the plate to attack??
