When I first play this level and heard that it had no music and instead a weird atmospheric noise, I literally thought that I downloaded the wrong ROM and I was playing a haunted version of Earthworm Jim. I literally even said "This better not be like one of those creepypastas!" And I also said "I swear if I see a bloody picture of Jim with bleeding eyes...". I even covered my eyes and took off my headphones expecting a jumpscare or something when I died only to just see Jim spawn at the checkpoint. I felt like an idiot that night.
>the whole level is built out of makeshift wooden structures >there's a giant green poisonous swamp in the background >filled with annoying mosquito enemies that are hard to hit >the soundtrack is only made of creepy environment noises EWJ has invented blighttown 15 yrs before fromsoft
The music in this level is pretty creepy & eerie considering the wacky and cartoony atmosphere of Earthworm Jim. I don't know why but this song reminds me alot of the music from the Playstation version of Doom.
One of the developers at Shiny Entertainment was called Nick Bruty. Coincidence? I think not! Oh, and who thought the whip jump at 7:10 was a good idea...
Definitely not, Shiny did a lot of this sort of thing. Just ask Andy Aster(oids). Lorenzen's Soil in EWJ2 is named after the lead artist. I'm sure there's plenty of other examples.
I know this game is extremely random, but what is the connection between the bruty and giant horse flies? And what is the background? Sometimes, the more random something is, the creepier. It's uncanny valley.
The old EWJ site has a profile on Big Bruty that explained a bit of his backstory. The gist of it is that Big Bruty hatched from an abandoned egg and was cared by a human. At some point Big Bruty discovered that he could reproduce asexually and then he and his hatchlings devoured everything on the planet. The only thing left are those flies that apparently fed on Bruty's hatchlings.
I see they changed the sound of the gun to match Earthworm Jim 2. A shame, as the meaty machine gun-like sound of the SNES version always sounded best.
Comment at 4:44 lol!Seriously! This level is creepy,no?And when the Bruty is eating Jim,his eyes are creepy! Didn't you feel a weird sensation about this? And flies with big eyes! That's radioactif! And the music!
Man I remember this video from the time RU-vid still had annotations. 3:06 for example had the one saying "I decided to demonstrate why jumping over Bruty is a bad idea." (so now without them, it just looks like they decided to jump into them for no reason) Others I remember are. "There is no Andy Astroids for this one because they were lazy." (something like that) and "If you dont kill those bees, they gonna hurt like heck." Thank you youtube for removing a feature that everybody loved.
Yeah, sometimes it's hard to tell if something is the really thing or is fake. You never know what is really or not, you just have to go with what you think is really.
F£$%in Wasps, not only in Real life they fly in your face & scare, but they are annoying even in videogames. That's why i enjoy this level to wack them all.
not really its fucking creepy too at least its not in the original and alternative versions of the cartridge rom versions. its in compact disc instead.
