@@Tinytraveler They do not have the Keyword for Character but fielding one is perfectly legal because their army rules differ. I played against a Warhound in a 9th comp tournament and it was one of the most fun games I have ever had. No point for any army's are out yet but the general guess is that you will still be able to field just the one Warhound in a 2k game in 10th

I’d say Orks are pretty good starting faction, they usually don’t have super confusing mechanics to keep track of, and they have a big range of models and play styles to choose from. Also with painting you can pick any kinda color scheme you want, and you can either go for a quantity over quality approach or if you have the time you can go ham painting rust, chipped paint, free hand glyphs etc etc
@rickrivers2021
@rickrivers2021 Год назад
I started with Orks, and while I love them, I wouldn't consider them a top 5 pick for new players. Expensive, a huge time commitment in painting, and their gameplay to a *new* player is going to be tough. I was losing 50 models turn 1 bc I couldn't use cover properly. And I didn't have the skills to trade up yet so I was super inefficient with my units. Timing the Waaaugh perfect is absolutely essential. Any time you make an error you're you just going to lose a unit, they aren't forgiving at all. And melee is just a little more complex to learn to do well then shooting I'm not saying they're GSC or Admech or anything wildly complicated, but I definitely think for a new player they're still going to be a tough army to learn. That said, they will force you to become a better player faster. I had to master screens, trade-ups, list-building, use of terrain, and scoring efficiency bc I had no choice

Heads up with the necrons combat patrol - I was in a GW store yesterday and they told me that it’s going to be updated to a combination of the starter sets models (imo an upgrade from a somewhat janky box currently)
@Gajaczek93
@Gajaczek93 Год назад
Combat patrol for necrons is a good deal (price discount comapred to buying everything separately) but it's kinda mixed bag of units. If you combine it with like a recruit/elite box set you actually can make a decent force. Boarding patrol for necrons is amazing comp for starters but also way more expensive (at least in my area) and does nto contain any character.

Very glad that seeing this on Patreon plus Poorhammer's vid on Custodes really solidified my commitment to playing them in 10th. The rules around not having to paint subfactions to match the exact (detachment now) rules you're playing too is also helpful since I think the Shadowkeepers look so badass. Might try and piece together Necrons for a second army if their combat patrol ends up being better!

Just got into Warhammer 40k, but I've been doing it mostly though Tabletop Simulator before spending any real money on minis. It's given me a chance to get familiar with not only the rules and playstyle, but also the X-factor of the models' physical presence on the board. Definitely recommend for anybody else who's having a hard time finding out which faction to pour their money into.

I started building some Thousand Sons and they're my favorite look but damn those Tzaangors are fiddly to assemble. Painting the armor on Rubric Marines is also pretty intimidating. When Indomitus came out I got that for the Necrons (guess the space Egyptians just appeal to me) and using a black base and drybrush made them so much easier to build up my painting confidence with so they're the first full army I've made. That tesseract glow paint over white really helps too. There are tons of great painting videos online since Indomitus. I'm worried their durability won't actually be good in 10th but a tide of silver dudes should still be fun and one of my friends is just getting started with them now.

You learn a lot about movement and postitioning with T'au; I think for this reason they are fantastic to start with. Plus: Most models are very easy to magnetize, giving you some courage to tinker with the expensive plastic you just bought. Painting them can be difficult though, as the flat surfaces on models like the Broadside are very prone to pooling, if you use contrast/speed paint or washes.
@abrarnoorani8385
@abrarnoorani8385 Год назад
I would say that Votann aren't actually that bad either- they're very easy to paint, they're new which makes all their sculpts good, they don't have many models so you'll end up using everything you buy one way or another, they aren't a hoard army and-while they seem to be getting a points drop in 10th which'll make them more expensive-they're still not the worst and were quite good price-wise in 9th. I've also found that they aren't super complicated either.

I didn't find Drukhari that difficult in the rules department. Hard to win with yes but not hard to figure out. You rush the wyches at the enemy as fast as you can, sacrifice the big transports in the initial assault, keep the little ones doing flanking shooting then to reposition your surviving units to effect defeat in detail. They're essentially fragile Space Wolves. Of the three armies I play they really aren't the hardest, Sisters takes that cake.

Death Guard - Pros: Cheap models since frustrated DG players are selling their armies now. And when you keep losing, you can easily blame it on the crappy rules and profiles. Cons: while you are getting more experienced you will still keep losing every match.

I think the easiest start is to play Kill Team. You only really need one box + the Kill team tokens and some dice. Even as a new model builder you could get the team ready in a single weekend and be playing right away. If I started out with big 40k I don't think I ever would have gotten a game in since I'm so slow with models, I think I would have given up before getting to a game. Even my first combat patrol took me weeks to get together.

I want to run a knight with an Imperial house guard of foot soldiers, kinda like a hunting party. Is their room to kit bash something like that in 10th Edition? I'd like to humbly suggest Nurgle Daemons. 1) Easy playstyle. Just sticky and/or sit on objectives and force them to shift you. 2) Easy to paint. Their models have great potential look amazing, but there's lots of ways to make them look good with really simple methods. 3) There are Nurgling bits all over the place, whether it's in the Plaguebearer sprues or the GUO sprues, inviting anyone clever enough to turn them into models you can use for Nurgling battlelines. You can really inflate the amount of points you can get out of any one kit and have 500+ points ready to go for casual games. 4) Playable in multiple combat systems like anything else in the Daemon faction. 40k rules got you down? Play them in Kill Team, Age of Sigmar, Warcry, Horus Heresy, etc. instead. I like to use them as a loaner army to teach people how to play games.

Plus they have lots of little bits that break off really easy, like tassels, back spikes and triggers on the pole-arms. Sisters all have visible heads, which are the hardest part for new painters. I'd much rather paint 1000 points of space marines then custodes.

spacemarines average out lower than quite a few other factions (custodes, harlequins, grey knights, chaos knights, imperial knights, death guard, CSM, Vottan, death watch, thousand sons, eldar, chaos deamons, dark eldar) according to my calculations

They did update the Boyz kit in the last few years. There's always going to be new kits but if you plan on having a green tide you might be good. There's also all the Beasts that were released around the same time. Maybe some of the vehicles could be due a refresh.

They updated the range fairly recently with the new beastsnagga kits. I don't expect to see any major changes. The best thing about Orla is that you can just slap some plasticard and rivets on anything and call it looted, so Orks have the biggest model range of any faction.

Easiest way to get into playing the game with a legit good army for cheap: buy 2 Custodes Combat Patrol, done. Enjoy beating all your friends for a fraction of the price they'd had to spent for theirs (obviously only accept to play with WTC terrain for massive line of sight blocking terrains). Bonus: Don't want to lose some VP for having your army unpainted? Spray can gold, add some blue to the blades, red to the weapons, shade it all with a very large brush and any dark shade paint. GG WP you've got it all and it probably took you only 1 afternoon.

really sorry to say this, but as much as it is easy for people to start with Custodes, I'm starting to loathe them banana boys. in my LGS there're already 4 out of 10 total people who plays Custodes exclusively, and not only is it starting to get boring seeing them, it's seen as the henry cavills army and the only army they will be playing

@nathanthom8176
@nathanthom8176 Год назад
There are so many ways Knights are easier, such as: •the number of units you need to run and therefore weapon profiles and abilities you need to remember •the fact your big boys can't get benefit of cover means that you don't have to worry about it •the fact that you don't have to worry about leaders to join units etc •the cost is not too bad. I got the chainbreaker lance for £103 which has 4 armigers and a Questoris The only major issues is transporting the things.

Imperial knight armigers have and still are out of stock everywhere. I wouldn't say this is the best faction for new players if the only place you can get them is second hand since GW has refused to print enough for demand for almost a year now.

The concept of a “beginner’s” or “starter” army is ridiculous. This game is expensive, and requires a lot of prep time (building, painting, list building, etc.). But I guess it’s normal to buy several armies.

Maybe if they sold sets of preassembled and painted minis it'd be even easier? Largest barrier to entry is assembly and paint. If they really wanted to open this up they'd bridge that gap. (Said as a modeler long before I was a gamer, so most of my time is sitting alone and building or converting or kit bashing....not my cup of tea to get prebuilts but the sales of used armies are common enough on resale sites that I doubt they wouldn't sell.

I will say to anyone looking to play a non-elite army. Please don't let guides recommend you away just because of cost. Warhammer is not a game you're supposed to buy at all once so if you truely love the idea of orks or guard or sisters please don't go for something your less passionate about just because it's "easier." Buying a box here and there will still absolutely get you to a full army on your hobby journey. Yours will just be a bit longer
