Your ingenuity is only surpassed by your parenting skills. Your idea and the suggestions be others make a lot of sense. I can attest to the importance of empowering your daughter and giving her great positive feedback. My father-in-law did the same. He also told her she could do anything she wanted. She took him to heart. She's a nurse practitioner and a nurse midwife. She ended up going back to school to get her PhD and is now a tenured professor and director of a nursing school. I'm forever indebted to my father-in-law for his love and encouragement of his daughter.

"This firewood rack looks like a fantastic solution for keeping firewood organized and easily accessible! I love how simple and straightforward the design is, making it perfect for DIY enthusiasts of all skill levels. Plus, the use of basic materials and minimal tools means it's budget-friendly and can be assembled in no time. This would be a great addition to any backyard or outdoor space, especially for those who enjoy cozying up by the fire during the colder months. Thanks for sharing this easy-to-follow tutorial!"

Glad this showed up on my feed this morning. We have been using the old kennel area where the previous owners kept their dog (mine was a large couch potato, not outdoorsy unless i was out there with him 😂) so we left up 2 sides of the kennel fencing, put in plastic slats on them (for the neighbors sake), repurposed a bunch of HD beams and laid them on top of the paver made floor and stacked 1/2 a maple tree and covered the top with a tarp. Not as nice looking but its doing its job. When we use it up for the winter we may tweak the system. I like the visual appeal of your setup much better but we have to work with what we have to be functional first. Definitely keeping this design in mind if we change anything up.

I love this design, I have had a similar setup for 3 year at this point. You really only need to lay the 2 2x4s down in the middle, and put the supports on the outside of them. 1 cinderblock per side and 1 in the middle for support has held a 10' run 5' high without any issues. Love the setup!

That’s a good idea. Like 4 or 6 sections instead of two huge sections. Thanks.
@aoe2geek
@aoe2geek 2 года назад
How would you modify this design to create those uprights? Like adding upright 2x4's everywhere in between where there are holes in the cinder blocks?
@markw2266
@markw2266 2 года назад
@@aoe2geek that would work. What will happen is the ends in the dirt will rot so if you can add something to the end grain to keep it from wicking water your uprights will last longer. I built 4x4x4 foot crates and all my uprights are going bad as the end grain is in contact with the ground. My loss can be your gain.
@bradherring4698
@bradherring4698 2 года назад
@@markw2266 yes, that's a great point. I've also seen guys put a capblock under the cinderblock as a barrier. So the 2x4 sits on that instead of the ground. It seemed like a good idea. I really love the idea of making the platform of 2x4's at the bottom versus just laying a landscape timber or something down there. Great idea. Thanks for sharing!

I'm using very similar racks. Two seasons now with these racks in my covered wood shed on concrete slab floor. Very stable, conveniently modular, very happy. An issue I had this winter with my new additional racks outside for extra "back stock" wood laid in for a couple years out is tipping. One of the 5 racks even fell over. The issue turned out to be unrelated to the racks themselves. On some of the late winter warmer days, with above freezing temps and some sunshine, the side of the racks that got the most sun had thawing of the soil under the cement blocks. But the backside stayed shaded by the firewood, so the ground on that side stayed frozen. So the blocks sunk into the soil just a little bit on the warm side. That little bit magnified the lean as it went up the 4ft height, creating some sketchy leaning racks. My plan this spring is to knock the remaining racks down, re-level and really tamp the soil down hard. Then I''ll put down three 16" square cement pavers as broad foundations for the cinder blocks. I think the narrow edges of the blocks just didn't have enough surface area, and dug into that melting soil. Will take a year to see if my plan works. LOL

Really like this, much easier and cheaper than a full blown wood shed. There is another style very similar to this I had seen before and actually built 6 of at my last house, instead of a 2x4 base on top of the blocks it used 2 landscape timbers, I like the way you did it alot better cause the base is screwed together and is much less likely to move around as your getting the first 2 layers of wood on it unlike the landscape timbers.
