Hey all you Home Menders! Dustin shows how to install a vinyl floor over an existing parquet floor. Allure vinyl flooring. No moisture barrier or special prep. The vinyl plank flooring goes in right on top of your existing floor. Dubbed the easiest floor ever, allure vinyl plank flooring is put to the test as Dustin shows how to cut around ducts and door jambs. Easy! Definitely this is a floor that anyone can do.

Wow Dustin the floor looks great! You really do make it look easy. I appreciate how you took the time to thoroughly explain how to measure and cut when you come to each intersection such as the floor vent, the end of the floor, and the corner up against the floor jam. Very helpful tips, so thank you!

Hi Samir. I would try a heat gun. They are about 20 bucks and it helps the material lay in and stick together. You don’t wanna put too much heat on the finish as it will melt it.

Hey Dustin, the finished work looks great. My wife and I are now seriously considering the grip strip route for our downstairs flooring. We'd lay down some underlayment over the already existing tile and put these over that, and probably keep the baseboards as they are. The previous owners used tile as the baseboard and it looks like they grouted the eff out of gaps and top edges to flush against the wall - it's pretty hideous and we don't want to risk damaging sections of our wall because of the grout work. Knowing about the tile baseboards, would you recommend just filling in the grout gaps and painting them with the rustoleum tile paint and adding a corner-round? Or shelling out mad money for hollow baseboards that could cover the tile baseboards? Lastly, do you know how well this flooring has held up since 2019?
@homemend
@homemend 2 года назад
Hey brother that sounds awesome. Thank you so much for the comment. Great questions. I sold that house shortly after but in other cases I’ve known it to hold up pretty well. It sounds to me like removing the tile baseboard is the way to go. If wall damage is an issue you could always put in taller baseboard and cover up the ugly. If you’d like jump on the mighty network and show me what you got. I’m sure folks would love to see it and how you tackle it. Thanks so much for commenting

Hello! Great video Dustin - thank you. One question. There is another type of vinyl plank flooring that is fully peel and stick. An example would be Traffic Master self-stick vinyl plank. The type you installed seems to just have a small overlap strip that sticks to the adjacent plank and doesn't stick entirely to the floor. Do you have a preference of one over the other?
@homemend
@homemend 3 года назад
hey Richard! the overlap style as in this video is a floating floor...it doesn't secure down to the subfloor but "floats" on top...i like this style of floor as installation is easy to work with...both are durable and water proof but the subfloor of the peel n stick style needs to be near perfect to adhere well, which is why we put down 1/4" luan over layment to prep and give it as smooth clean surface to stick to...the floating floor can be installed over just about anything.. i hope this helps!
@melissae.5623
@melissae.5623 3 года назад
@@homemend So.. because it's a floating floor, it should be easier to remove? my hardwood floors are a disaster and rather than paying thousands and thousands of dollars right now, I'm hoping this would be a good 'bandaid' until we're ready to get something to last forever (a 5 year old bandaid?)

Hey j. I avoid those pieces when installing. If it’s already installed you might try a heat gun to warm it up, but don’t cook the finish. 😀
@SarahWRah
@SarahWRah Год назад
Dustin's installation skips important steps: (1) He forgot to mix and match the color lots among boxes of planks -- see time stamp 6:43. (2) He started in a corner without checking how square the room is. Some installers recommend measuring a cross-hatch "+" in the middle of a room and working out to the sides. (3) He omitted the recommended step of using a hand roller during the installation, and heavy (75 lb) stand up roller as a final step. Samir Gayawali's comment below illustrates what can happen without that step: "I have seams showing up after a week with small opening between the planks which are not sticking firmly. Is there any way to fix them by using extra adhesive or so?" Linda Long makes a similar comment: " I have one problem, the seams will pull apart over time."
@homemend
@homemend Год назад
Hey Sarah great observations. This is a great floor and I haven’t had any issues with it pulling a part or the seams pulling up, step two doesn’t really affect the layout either way. Thanks for commenting!

Hey Dustin! Great video! I want to do this for my new home but i was wondering if you don’t needed spacers? I am assuming this vinyl won’t expand

Hey Ménard. I have never used spacers to install the vinyl plank. Just lay it in there and it’s good to go :-) you got this

How well does the floor hold up with heavy liquid spills? I have 5 kids and there is ALWAYS accidents. For instance we had our washer dump all the water on the floor. We quickly shop vacuumed it up but would something like that cause major issue with a floor like this? Thanks. I love the floor and ease of installation.

Thanks...I would not recommend for decks...our exact floor, deck gets hot...floor bubbled up and seems overlapped and has faded...it is in a very sunny room. Very disappointed, looks horrible. Come to find out, they never rolled the floor with a weight after. Thanks, wish I did it myself....or had someone like you do it :) Oh, horrible mess around doors as well....As a result, I do eveeything in my house now, can't afford professionals....so I watch you.

Where did you get this flooring? I was looking at the Orange store and its $1.99 Sq. Ft. Then I saw the L Liquidator store has it under a $1 sq ft. I have a few rental houses I want to use this in. I am in Central PA.

Hey Dustin! Am I able to do this directly on an older wood floor? I know this may sound strange, but there does not seem to be anything under these wooden floorboards, as I can see them with the nails in them in part of my ceiling in the basement...So this quick method would seem to be my only affordable option, other than painting, to avoid replacing the whole floor... If I did lay this floor down, would it/stickiness wise, further damage the wood floor if someone wanted to sand it/restore the original floor later?
@homemend
@homemend 2 года назад
Hi Jennifer. These are all awesome questions. yes you can put this directly on to any floor, I haven’t tried carpet yet and probably would not but yes any hard floor would work. There is also no stickiness as the the tabs stick to each other and the floor technically floats there (not secure down) You got this Jennifer.
@jhashieder
@jhashieder Год назад
You’re supposed to cut the over edge (the side with nothing to stick to) off of the first row.
@homemend
@homemend Год назад
Hey Jay hash, you don’t really need to do that, as the tab is only 1 inch and you’ve got 3/4 of quarter round covering that. I hope the video helped you. Thanks for commenting

I read somewhere that it’s not good to put directly over parquet flooring because of moisture issues... have you found any issues with that long term?
@homemend

hey KD....this floor is pretty sweet...this parquet is on a slab and i haven't had any issues with it...so easy and it looks so good! they did not recommend moisture barrier with this product...its good to go.. I hope this helps!

I had such a hard time with this floor. I got the allure same concept. whenever I scored it and snapped off the piece it wasnt an exact straight cut and left gaps in between my planks. Im so discouraged!
@homemend
@homemend 3 года назад
Hey Anna so sorry to hear that. The only pieces that should be cut or the sides that butt to the wall. Factory end will line up with the factory end so it should not allow any gaps. You may also try cutting it with siding shears. They work awesome as well.

WHY does trafficmaster make this effing jank ass setup where the stuff doesn't even stick to the effing floor!?!?? And the little grooves at the edges don't have anything under them??? Why mess up something as SIMPLE as peel and stick flooring!??? I DON'T GET IT!!!!!!!!!

Hey hey Jared. It can be frustrating the point of the floating floors that it does not. Need a clean surface to go over. It goes over whatever you lay it down on.
