This is the EASIEST WAY to add USB-C ports to your Desktop. It is much better than using a Dongle, more reliable, more stable, and costs less money. I use a StarTech.com PCIe USB 3.1 Card: amzn.to/3RQccoP
You can choose your own USB C port card but I wanted to go with a more reliable card. Let me know if this guide helped you.

My motherboard seems to only have pcie x1 versions left on it, would getting a card that connects to pcie x1 work or would there be some power differential there?

I found out that the USB-C on my MSI motherboard isn't powerful enough to power and show signal with a single cable of a portable monitor. Will having a PCIE card like this be good for my MSI MPG B550?

A USB-A to USB-C adapter might work. Other than that, getting a whole new motherboard is your only action

Hi! This guide is a huge help as I need to add USB C ports to my desktop pc so it'll work with a new USB C docking station I just got. Do you know if these ports will work with a docking station since the description online says "Does not support DP-Alt mode for video over USB-C or USB Power Delivery"? I imagine I'd need to run a SATA power connector, but I'm concerned video won't display - for clarity the monitors are plugged into the dock via HDMI and the dock connects via USB C (not thunderbolt). Thank you!

I'm no expert but I think that the answer is in the product description: The catch is that it adds an *"USB type C"* and not a real *USB-C.* In other words : While a "real" USB-C supports all those protocols you need (displayPort and what not), a USB "type C" is _only_ a regular USB (possiby 3.0, 3.1, 3.2...) in the shape of a USB-C.

Hi! I used the StarTech PCIe USB 3.1 Card: amzn.to/3RQccoP But you can use any card you want similar but the StarTech has better tech and more reliable.

Enough power from Pcie. No sata power needed.

While @TheFrenchGlow did answer your question it could be improved. It really depends on what you plug into usb C. If it were me, and i had an open SATA power connector, I would go ahead and hook it up. Their docs say "includes an option SATA power connector for high power devices"

USB C does not advertise a speed rating. USB C is s physical specification, only. There are many variations of USB, and a "C" port doesn't imply speed.
