This is one of the best, most well made, and thorough basic tech review videos I’ve ever seen. Holy crap bro, great job! And thank you for all of the info. I just bought one :)
You have made the best video concerning this device that I've seen. After looking into more options, I decided to get a head unit installed in my Civic that would work best for me. I appreciate how you went through the settings and your explanation of the good and the bad. Great video.
I have a twenty year old Honda Civic ex and started looking at these type of products primarily because I wanted to add GPS navigation with a screen larger than my small iPhone 8. I have a 5 inch screen size Garmin GPS from a few years ago, but I found that the maps and places of interest were outdated right after the initial purchase and updating has not worked. I researched new models with larger screens and found the same criticisms in the reviews. Maps are outdated! I subsequently learned about these CarPlay add ons such as Carpuride and I have viewed many videos. Your video is probably the best and most complete explanation of the features that I have seen. You seemed to cover everything of interest to a consumer in a clear and concise manner. I chose to watch this video because of my interest in this product, so I have not viewed any of your other auto repair/mod videos. That is perhaps for a more specialized audience. But if you would create more video reviews of products that would be of interest to a wider audience, I am sure that your RU-vid viewership would increase greatly. You seem like a natural for these presentations. I enjoyed watching.
Hey man, thank you for your kind and thoughtful comment. I've been struggling to find what works for me to become successful on RU-vid and after reading your comment, I think you're absolutely right! I'm looking forward to doing more and creating the best possible review videos, thanks again for your kind words!
Wow dude. Excellent review and there was no skipovers or fast forwards on my part. Value in each word. Looking forward to seeing the comparison reviews.
You the man thanks need more electronic entertainment uploads. Freebie tester gifts for you. Gonna get this and remove hide it under the seat. Every time I leave long period of time from the car. When it gets old gonna stop doing it. Hope someone steal it excuse to get a newer 4k - 8k screen down the road.
I think since you used the screen mirroring on the airplay overview of the this video that's why you may not be able to have your iphone locked with video playing, try using the airplay feature in the app instead of screen mirroring. Overall great review of the product which is what a lot of people overlook :)
I haven't tried using the built-in mic, I've always opted for using my air pods due to convenience . However, if you're interested in the mic quality, it would be safe to say that I recommend using an external mic such as a lapel mic. In my experience, the built-in mic on head units are meant for using voice commands but can also be used for phone calls which means the mic quality is only good enough to make the voice command feature work.
“Considering that there are other head units that can do the same or more at a lower price”. Would you do a comparison video showing the other head units competing with this one?
Will the unit turn off when the car is shut off, or will I need to unplug it when I shut off my car?

This would be great for a motorcycle if it can stream to a helmet comm system 👌🏼 It’s also great for a car, specially if you can’t or don’t want to fumble around with a stock head unit.
Good review. I'm interested in the Carpuride 9 for my car, but I'm hesitant because I prefer Apple software on dedicated Apple hardware. I wish Apple enabled CarPlay on the iPad
Awesome review bro. I think you found an option for people like me who would prefer this rather than ripping out and replacing the oem system as you mentioned. I know you mentioned it can connect to a reverse camera, I was JW, what does the connection look like? I'd probably prefer to replace my current monitor with this unit.
yes you can, I show how it works in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_3FrF3ZtEaw.html although it's a different product, it still has the same functionality
Why does no one seem bothered by the wires? I would love it if someone included a way to route/ hide them behind the dash. I tried with mine but its difficult.
I know you probably answered this question a million times and I’m sorry but how do I connect it to my car speakers (Pandora) if I do not have an aux spot in my car?
If you don't have an auxiliary cord, the FM transmitter will allow you to transmit music to your car speakers using your car's radio. Just set the radio to an unused station, and the Carpuride stereo to that same station and bam, you got music playing through your speakers. Not sure if you were also asking if you can use the Pandora app but if you were wondering, you can only use Pandora through Carplay or Android Auto
the speaker isn't very loud and does not sound as good as the pro version. If you want something waterproof, you can check out the W502 which is meant for motorcycles and outdoor use carpuride.com/collections/frontpage/products/carpuride-w502-wireless-portable-dual-bluetooth-waterproof-ip67-motorcycle-stereo?ref=4aahvv8e
With the head unit raised up, it doesn't shake at all or not enough for me to notice but I recommend resting the bottom of the screen on a surface so it'll be more stable. Sometimes when I tap the screen too hard, it can move unless I tighten up the adjustment knobs. And thanks man! I'm way behind on content 😆
This looks great, but I have a question: I want to hook up a wireless back up camera on my truck, and I wondered if I could use this as the screen. The camera I’m looking at streams the camera to an iphone, so could I watch live video from my iPhone on this screen?
The only way you'll be able to cast your wiresless camera to this device is by using the Screen Mirror function but the video quality will look worse because the Screen Function uses wifi/bluetooth to cast your phone onto it. If you did screen mirror, you won't be able to use carplay
Darn! I don't want to have to buy two systems for my truck, and I don't want to have to wire it. I have a lot of don't wants. Thanks for the response!@@Rawrkee
yeah, the latency is a little off. you can try going to settings, tap the wifi icon, and set the Wifi Channel to 2.4 ghz. It might help a little. or you can even try contacting Carpuride and see if there is a software update
Hi I have a very good radio system with Bluetooth ans microphone, I use it to make phone calls voice command and DAB Radio all perfect, however no sat nav no apple CarPlay! Is there anyway that I could connect my phone to this until to use apple CarPlay or Android Auto but use the car build in Radio to listen to the radio and also use it to make phone calls? Thanks
it might be your android's fault because on my Android Auto screen, the Maps has indeed a split screen function with the map on the left and Spotify + notifications on the right
Hi, Mine just ordered 2 weeks ago, has a wallpaper screen saver, so I cannot use to navigate more than 30 minutes, when the wallpaper screen is activated. How I can turn it off to be able to use to navigate for a long trip? Thanks
Indeed a great review. You did mention that other portable head units have the ability to connect to the Play Store and install other apps - can you recommend/suggest any? Thanks
AAAD is the only one I am aware of. First app is free. Play store only has a handful of android auto supported apps. AAAD allows you to add a few that act like RU-vid or a web browser
I can’t say that it’s any better than other fm transmitters, you still get the subtle static noise in the background. My car has an aux port and so I don’t bother to use the fam transmitter
Great review.. my question is.. do you have any issues when you're wearing polarise glasses? When I wear polarise glasses and look at my phone, I can't see the screen, it's dark.
at which step are you having trouble with the setup? The head unit itself is pretty simple to setup in your vehicle, the instructions provided can guide through that and how to setup your phone as well.
Not sure if I missed this… What if I wanted to listen to the radio. Would that have to be through my phone, or do I just unplug the aux cord? Or was that on the carplay?
i liked the review it was very informative. i would like to know what or if there are differences between the different models/sizes, is it literally just a size difference? The descriptions for products are very long lol
I've reviewed a few of their products. This video covers the W901. They have a newer version, the W901 PRO - which has bluetooth functionality and an upgraded built-in speaker. I've also reviewed the W103 - which is a rectangular shape. Very similar to this product, the W901. Its bluetooth 'capable' but not up to par with the W901 PRO. So if you want the latest model, the W901 PRO is the one to get
You just mentioned having the capability of mirroring your phone on the display that being said recent upload to Android phones to carplay and split screen so I can't understand why you can't just split the screen sideways on your phone and mirror it on their main display seems very strange that this cannot be done anyway you would probably get just as much if not in some cases more if you mounted a decent quality
Nice review! my sound of the google voice is really low, is there a way to do something about it? even when the music is a bit lower, i still cant hear her something in the settings? also your screen looks different compared to mine. Maybe i should update mine device? I used a mount with a magnet, so then its easy to remove. sorry for all the questions :)
yes, I had my android phone connected with a wire, and then bluetooth my iphone to the head unit. You'll see both Carplay and AndroidAuto icons on the top of the display and it'll allow you to switch between each one to play music
Hello, can i use carplay wireless through this device ? and not wired through my iphoner? and what's the newest fastest version i see alot of modals and im confused , thx !
Hi There, great review. Question: How did you set up the Bluetooth to get the sound both from your iphone and also from Carpuride to come out of the car's speakers? Did you pair you iphone and also the Carpuride to the car's BT?
@@jbdracoipads have a battery. This device runs on 12v. USB outputs 5v. That's pretty fundamental to the issue. That said, USB-C power delivery can output much more. But that is more expensive hardware. For this type of device, the choice of a 12v barrel connector is the right call.
Does anyone else think it's absolutely asinine of Apple and Google to not offer Carplay or Android auto as a native app on their devices? if you already own a tablet it would be really nice to just use that or even the larger phones vs having to buy and install a physical screen for the sole purpose of having this ability. Just my 2 cents. Android driving assistant is very limited as is the iPhones native capbility.
I haven’t reviewed the w103 but I know it’s newer and uses a usb-c port to power on the device. I’ve seen a couple of reviews on it and I would say it’s the same thing as the Carpuride 9 inch, just shorter in height but with better hardware. If you don’t want a huge screen in your way, I think the w103 would be a better option
Yes, there is a newer model called the W901 Pro. The Pro version fully supports Bluetooth functionality. It’ll be the first two links in the description
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! And nope, once you have the bluetooth connection set up, it'll automatically connect to your phone each time you turn on the device
@@Rawrkee does this model transmit using Bluetooth to your headunit also - i dont wanna use FM transmit and i dont have an aux connector , only USB sockets
You can use the FM Transmitter, set your radio to an unused station, and set the FM Transmitter to the same station and you'll get audio through there. If you car has bluetooth, you can get the newer model that has bluetooth ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xaQqSGTYbn0.html
does this one not have dual bluetooth also? the 10.8” and the 7” both have dual bluetooth so you can pair your phone to the carpuride and then pair it to your head unit
From all the product info I've gone through, I didn't see anything about dual bluetooth and unfortunately, none of my cars come with bluetooth and so I can't test out this feature. I was also browsing the product's Answered Questions on amazon and found this Question:Does this unit have dual bluetooth where the phone connects to the unit and the unit connects to bluetooth of car so it can play music fromcar stereo? Answer: Hi, thanks for your question, No dual bluetooth,There are many ways our device can play music(three Audio Modes: Local Speaker, AUX, FM). and this one: Question: Does this support two phones? wife and i both have iphones. it seems to only connect to last connected phone even if it’s not there. Answer: Hello, thank you for your question. It is not possible to connect two phones at the same time. If you want to connect your own phone, need to delete your wife's mobile phone Bluetooth pairing history in the Carpuride unit settings screen. Then reboot your own phone and you will be able to reconnect.
If it can not transmit to the car with Bluetooth or a usb input then they are missing out on a lot of potential clients. Aux in headphone jack is not that popular
Hi! I have a 2011 Infiniti m56. It doesn’t have aux, only Bluetooth. If I connect my iphone to this wirelessly, then can I connect the device to my car’s Bluetooth to use the car’s speakers?
no, this cannot connect to your car's bluetooth. What you want is the Pro version. You can check it out here carpuride.com/collections/carpuride-w901-pro?ref=4aahvv8e there are three options, you can get the unit itself or one pared with either the backup camera or steeringwheel control. To my knowledge, I think the only difference between the 9 inch and 9 inch Pro is the dual bluetooth feature.
Great review. I recently had to return the ATOTO P8 because it didn't have wired CarPlay and the stuttering wifi connection drove me crazy. How is the sound quality on this one?
The sound quality is what you can expect through a auxiliary cord BUT if you're talking about the FM Transmitter, someone has mentioned a frequency range that will provide the best audio quality "If your radio has 87.5 FM less statics and good sound rated 8 no Aux cord needed"
My car doesn’t have Bluetooth or aux. if I use the fm transmitter will I be listening to the radio or music from lets say Spotify? Also do I have to set it up everytime?
Hi, sorry for the super late response. Yes you can still listen to Spotify using Carplay or Androidauto with the FM Transmitter. No you don't have to manually setup the FM Transmitter each time, you simply toggle the FM Transmitter on/off.
@@Rawrkee it’s called autoflix drive box pro, I emailed carpuride and they said they haven’t tested any streaming devices to see if they would work with their product. Could be worth a shot lol. I just ordered one yesterday. My car doesn’t have Bluetooth and I hope I will be able to connect my phone to the carpuride (while it’s connected to aux) through Bluetooth and play my music just fine
Can you try going to safari and playing a video of of there cause I be watching anime on safari and wanted to know if it picks up on that (edit and does the audio play through the carpuride or the car stereo)
I have a 2020 Honda Civic base model I was looking for something like this would this work well for it? I didn't wanna pay and have the whole radio replaced.. also can you get a front facing camera for it?
it only has a port for a rear view camera. They have other products with different sizes but from what i found, they only support rear cameras. I'm not sure how the camera system works because I didn't see an app that would allow you to view the rear camera. however, I'll be reviewing another carpuride unit with a camera very soon.
The reason you can’t add more apps to this head unit is because it’s a Linux based operating system. If it were an Android based operating system, you would be able to download apps onto the head unit. A telltale sign of an Android Operating system is that the product page will advertise the head unit’s processor, storage, and ram, like a computer.
Solid review, Thanks. You'd think a 2016 Acura RDX, the head unit would be replaceable with an aftermarket. Nope, nothing. This looks like a potential add-on for CarPlay and large screen. Does the backup camera come on automatically, or does a separate button need to be pressed?
I still have not been able to figure out how to get the audio to come out of my car speakers with the aux : it’s connected by still coming out of the display unit
maybe the provided aux cord is no good, have you tried a different aux cord? also, have you tested that your aux port works normally when you plug in your phone or mp3 player?
@@steakburger101 glad you got it worked out! Try cleaning the surface with 70%isopropyl alcohol. You can probably wipe the sticky side too with that stuff using a microfiber towel
