Sony made it ridiculously easy to add location information (aka Geotagging) to every photo you take. Check out how you can use your iPhone or Android phone to seamlessly geotag your photos with your exact location. It's super easy and powerful!

Hi! Thanks for video! But some remarks - Sony applications is battery hungry and better take a powerbank for phone if your session take a time (for example - full day trip). Also check carefully application description - not all Sony models has such possibility. Alternative method (for whom have no camera with geotagging support or phone with relatively weak battery): - collect your track (usually it not discharges battery so much). Android users can skip this step as Google keeps Timeline. - if need convert your track to usable format nby GPSBabel (free app) or online service - GeoTag your pictures with iteractive editing on map in GeoSetter (free Windows program). GeoNaming is also possible but requires subscription to geonaming service.

Hi Brian! Thank you for the tip. I always add the geotag info to my photos, and I never imaged that side effect you mentioned. Too sad... I use an a6000 and, unfortunatelly, it doesn't work on it as smothly as you shown. a6000 does not have bluetooth, so I had to use the wifi connection to the Sony Remote Control app, previously installed on camera. So here are my findings: 1) When using the Sony Remote Control app, several camera functions are disable / unavailable, as Continuos Shooting and Braketing, for instance. 2) The geotag info is stored at the smartphone copy of the image, not to the image file on camera memory card. 3) The image on smartphone memory is always jpg, despite the camera saving RAW to the memory card. 4) The battery drains really fast when using wifi. So, as my wife won't allow me to upgrade the camera in the near future, I'll keep using my old geotagging app on smartphone and add the info on a computer.

I use this with my A7RIII and if I don't use my camera for a few days or if the Sony app gets closed or iOS free's it from memory the camera will not automatically make the bluetooth connection and I'll have to make an effort to try and remember to check the app and camera each day that I go out to take photo's, If I forget to check most of the time I get home with no location info. I really wish they would just add a GPS unit to the camera or give an option for something like a hotshoe GPS unit add-on.

Thanks Brian. I have the a7R3 and a7R4 and use them simultaneously with different lenses attached. Does the geo tagging function work on both cameras at the same time? I imagine you might have to toggle between both on the Imaging side which might me crazy. I also use the Sony Remote Control and read a users comment below that geo tagging and bluetooth remote may not function at the same time. I'm also concerned about battery life. Used to shoot with the a7R2 and had at least 10 batteries. With the 3 and 4 I have less but find that while they don't drain like the R2 they still drain enough to make me uncomfortable especially in cold climates. I will test this out soon since I'm scheduled for a workshop in Grand Tetons and Yellowstone in a couple of weeks. So I was correct that you can use this function with two Sony bodies but you need to "change the camera" to geotag a photo taken on that camera. Also, the geotag does indeed get imbedded on the raw file in the SD card. Select the photo after import and go to Map to see the coordinates. Thirdly, you can't use the geotag function and the Sony Bluetooth Remote at the same time. I will need to change my workflow to make this work for me since I like the Sony Remote. Lots to think about.

Hey there, Becky. Great question! I often head out on trips with at least two cameras and while both cameras can be paired to the Imaging Edge app on your phone, only one of the cameras can have the location information written at a time. There is an option to switch to the camera that you want to write the location info to within the app, but it is a manual process. Fortunately, once you select the appropriate camera, the app should automatically re-discover it when you turn it off and on again... most of the time. In some cases, I'll have to "force quit" the Imaging Edge app on my phone and when I relaunch it, the app connects to the camera right away. I haven't experienced any issues with battery drain related to geotagging. Weather will definitely affect the performance of your batteries, but that is independent of the geotagging feature.
