I cover two main topics in this video-
1.) I do further testing on Baking to Smooth 3D pen creations, using more complicated shapes. The cute Pokemon Ditto is my main test case.
2.) I show a brand new 3D pen method that I developed, which allows you to make copies of your 3D pen creations very easily. I call this new technique “3D Pen Cloning”.
There is no sanding and minimal smoothing in this video, so come see how much time you can save with these methods!
Here is my previous video on “Baking to Smooth 3D Pen Creations”-

I love how shiny everything is, you'd never tell it was made with a 3D pen.

Nice work mate, Ditto was good example for that :) It seems very convenient method for copy-pasting old projects, thank you for showing this. I've used air dry clay once with no foil inside and filled it manually at 200c - high speed with the pen to avoid the smoothing process later.

Thanks for this! Very nice technique you’ve developed here. It’s really good to see the baking process on some more complex models. As always, I really appreciate that you show the mistakes, foibles, and things that just didn’t quite work, so we can truly learn from the mistakes you’ve already made. 👍

I was tidying up my subscriptions, and I knew I subscribed to you for good reason! I've got two 3D pens and have hardly used them because the whole process has issues. The lumpy bumpy texture you get with a 3D pen vs a 3D printer is one big issue, but I can't justify buying a 3D printer at the moment. Baking smooth looks so good and seems so easy, once you know how. Guess when I next feel like playing with my 3D pen, I'll have to give this method a go. I'd be tempted to try making something by filling a mould with plastic like you showed, but I'm going to guess that's a bad idea.

Wow that is cool , that is a time saver for smoothing 👍👍when I get better with the 3d pen , I would definitely buy a toaster oven for smoothing 👍👍but first thing first learning how to use the 3d pen and creating things 👍👍😀

Question 1: how high do you set it in a toaster oven and normal oven to make it shiny? Question 2: why not sell the extras? Question 3: HOW ARE YOU SO GOOD AT DITO?!

Would you be able to use something other than a toaster oven? E.G an air fryer?
@PlatyMadness

I was wondering if I can use 'Silicone' from the hardware store to make a mold. Then when it dries up I can just use the pen to draw over the surface then maybe put it on a toaster oven to make sure. Do you think that would work?
@sadkingbilly
@sadkingbilly 3 года назад
I have watched several of your videos (just ordered a 3D pen, for a specific thing, but to play around with too of course) and I wonder, have you ever tried coating a thin metal wire in filament to give it some strength? I want to make some 3" snowmen for a christmas display and I was thinking arms out of reinforced filament. But since the scale is so small, the arms would be 2,5 mm thin, and filament itself probably isn't strong enough to withstand some force..

@@PotentPrintables checked it again just to be sure but sadly I can’t seem to find it. The copper wire you use is about three times the diameter I need the entire arms to be 😅🤔😓 oh well I’ll find out the hard way I guess 😁

Could one do direct penning to the mold itselt, and could the mold be a oyumaru?
@PotentPrintables
@PotentPrintables 3 года назад
Good questions! - You could pen directly into the mold. But it would take a lot of time and filament. Also, I bet it would not "pack"/fill the mold very well. Check out my recycling 3D Pen waste video for what I mean by that. - I wasn't familiar with oyumaru, but when I looked it up I saw it has a low "shaping" temperature. This temp is lower than 3D Pens operate at (~180C), so I bet the molten plastic would distort/destroy the oyumaru mold.

Question: can I use a regular oven or it has to be a toster oven?
@PotentPrintables
@PotentPrintables 4 года назад
You can use a regular oven. I would just say that pre-heating was really important and getting a uniform temperature in the oven. That might be harder to do with a full sized oven.
