@@TheLowest I play a pawn shop, cheap Jay tuser vintage tele with upgrade tunners , that's all. Played on a good amp and pedals, no one can hear low cost.
Watching the first five minutes of this I thought Dave had got his hands on a high four figure guitar. But a quick search and these are less than £200! Daves lack of snobbery is an inspiration.
Being a relative newbie I diidn't know anything about East coast guitars, just googled them while listening to Dave make that gold top sing, some of the snobby comments on the forums are hilarious, my favourite being "I wouldn't use them to knock tent pegs in" ladies and gentlemen I give you the star witness for the defense 👍
Dude that 'Golden Skies' jam was like listening to Comfortably Numb for the first time. NO exaggeration. You deserve the absolute best. PS, get ANY gear snob to listen to that, without knowing if its played on a dead cheap chinese les paul and rather affordable amp and pedals, and sit back while they rave about the quality of tone. ITS ALL IN THE FINGERS AND EARS.
You are absolutely spot on mate, I can’t stand guitarists who won’t play anything unless it’s got Gibson on it with a £2000 Marshall stack. It’s utterly ridiculous. If there was no picture and just sound how many people would say that’s Dave Gilmour 👍
Always love the way you value every guitar that you present. I myself was fortunate to obtain a '78 Ibanez goltop (bolt on) seemed chambered too. It just sings! Every guitar out there, treated right is worth playing!
I think we all really enjoy seeing you so happy! A set neck in that price range is a real bargain, don't let that one go! Have a great weekend Mr Dave.👍
Proof that it's not the brand or cash you put into it, it's the hands and feelings that makes a Guitar amazing. Always a joy to watch your videos Dave my friend. Love and respect from 🇹🇷.
Still the best intro in youtube, always makes happy. You're still getting better too! I've been watching you for years and it's great seeing how you've grown. I really hope you are doing well!!!!
WOW !!!!! WOW !!!!! WOW !!!!! AMAZING ! MOVING ! UNERTHLY ! Your play just makes my soul flying high ... you have an unbelievable gift for giving emotions. AVE !
Congratulations on finally finding you Goldtop!!! Amazing guitar, brother! Isn't it an amazing feeling when you really connect with a guitar? So awesome. I recently had the same experience with my first ever Les Paul. Never thought i liked Les Pauls and now i play one almost exclusively. The crazy journeys we go on, right? Anyway, you are clearly already making incredible music with it! Congratulations again!
Dave once again your playing took me away to another place, you should name this improv ' Bleeding Angels', thats what I saw in my mind angels bleeding to death as they despair and kill themselves over the decline of humanity, just great playing man .
Your attitude to guitars is spot on Dave. Inexpensive gear these days isn't what inexpensive gear was thirty years ago. I recently bought a Storm Strat for 50 euros on Leboncoin (the French equivalent of Gumtree), set it up and loved it with all my heart as soon as I plugged it in. It's light and the neck is a freeway in the rain. Feels wonderful. Gigged with it though a Boss ME 25 into a Katana and someone videoed it. It's some of the best sounds I've ever got.
it proves the point you made in the vid you made this week , it does not matter what the cost off the guitar is or wich brand it is is as long as it sounds great , this one surely does , rock on dave : )
Wow! Dave, you play from the heart and from somewhere just west of heaven… fantastic. It’s funny how you can tell when a guitar deserves to be in the players hands and that gold top was destined to be yours, it’s a beauty, sounds beautiful and you play it beautifully. Much love.
Had the same type of experience happen to me at Sam Ash last week with a Squier vintage series Starcaster. Plugged it into an Vox AC10. It sounded glorious. I was like yeah it's coming home with me
Congrats on your new guitar! It's beautiful and sounds awesome as well. I just got a green flame top Les Paul copy and it's becoming one of my favorites. I've had a few high end guitars in the past but a few years ago they were stolen and I can't afford to replace them. I ended up watching a few videos of people playing guitars I'd never heard of and thought they sounded better than a lot of my old guitars did so I decided give one a try. I'm glad I did, it's not like it use to be. They make some great sounding guitars anyone can afford now days. I've got a couple more I wanna get then I'll be checking into the brand you just got. If you bought one they must be really nice guitars. You pretty much just proved it imo. Great video! Thanks for turning everybody on to another guitar to check out. 😊
You did it to me again!!!! I watched your video a few weeks ago and it thrusted me into GOLDTOP hunting mode. East Coast are not here in the US but I did a lot of visits to local shops and big box shops and played a few Les Pauls and I ended up with a used 2021 Epiphone Slash Les Paul, otherwise known as Victoria. AMAZE-BALLS!!!! CTS pots, orange drop capacitors and uncovered CUSTOM Pro buckers that turned out to be the best Epiphone pickups I ever played. Never liked the Probuckers really. ‘59 neck profile is awesome. BUT it doesn’t have a scratchplate. Anyway, your Goldtop is stunning and sounds awesome. Thanks for sharing.
It brings me much joy watching and listening to you Dave……you deserve whatever it is that brings you happiness. I’ve watched your body of work for quite some time and can confidently say you can make any gear sound phenomenal!
I recently got my dream Les Paul as well! Custom made for me by a luthier, in Tea Burst finish! Just like you, I can’t put it down! I am thinking of putting black scratchplate and pickup rings instead of cream ones…haven’t decided it yet! Anyways, tomorrow I have a gig with my band, so back to practicing! Your Goldtop sounds amazing as well!
It's been my experience over playing guitar for the last 40yrs that people who are caught up in what name is on the head stock usually can't play worth a damn. Always remember Edward Van Halen built his guitar...out of parts. Sounds fantastic Dave! I love seeing players get excited about finding that "one" guitar.
Been watching you for a while Dave, and I’m super happy for you man. You seem like a genuinely good man. I wish you all the success in the world. Wicked playing as always. Nice axe, all good!
Yesterday I received my vintage sunburst Eastcoast L1. He's not joking, these really are brilliant guitars. The finish is insane and the neck feels absolutely just right. The absolute game changer for me though is there's practically no fret buzz even after putting my 10-52s on and lowering the action. I'd honestly recommend considering these over lower tier Epiphones they're that good. I would absolutely gig and record with one of these and I wouldn't feel self conscious or concerned at all. These feel like proper guitars rather than entry level instruments.
I really like how you do your pickups! You get the dominance from one of the coils for increased definition. The dewaxing evidently restores detail as well. That guitar is special dude.
Already got a gold top but bought a Jet JS-300 because of you. Thank you for cutting through the snobbery and just bringing great content with no agenda! 🤘💥🤘
Dave it’s hard for us to take these budget guitars you play serious anymore. Rumor has it, your able to buy a broom from the $1 store and plug it in and sound amaze- balls. I believe that story.
Dave yet again proving its not the price of the guitar that counts...its the way that it's played and the emotional connection generated with that guitar.
Just bought the same gold top today, and I have to say this is by far the best purchase I made in a long time. The feel of this guitar is amazing. Thanks for uploading this video, this pushed me to go and get it today 👏👏
Golden Skies... Both parts... Took my head places it hasn't been since I first heard Hendrix or Cream as a lad, or Gilmour as a young man. I'm floating above my arm chair in my mind here in Catalunya.
I love my goldtop Eastcoast LP Dave and I'm sure youll appreciate this... It has a Jupiter Mining Corps sticker on it! 😆 After all, it is an "authentic Les Paul copy" 🚀 🤖 🐈 💿
Some of the best playing Dave has put out, no doubt. Gear should be a tool for expression and not much else. Magic is inside. And Dave is a testament, especially in this video!
That gold is beautiful. I have an '07 Gibson LP Classic in Bullion Gold and it's not quite "Goldtop" gold IMO. Your's seems to be that elusive shade! Congrats!
That's a great looking Les Paul. It works out to about $230 US cash money, which is very inexpensive for something that looks and sounds that good. We can't (easily) get these in the US but I'd love to try one.
Hi dave, iv been listening to golden skies and the lost on your stunning goldtop for the last 2 nights relaxing, not often I like something straight away, epic 👌
I wouldn't touch an East Coast without seeing your video, however I would never have touched a vintage without trying one, got one second hand and changed the pickups, plays superb
If someone deserves the guitar of his dreams/quest, it is you. I found you years ago when you did the "How many tones can you get out of the Orange CR120" series and ever since you never miss to amaze me. Same with your Anderton's show, absolutely first class.
Although this amazing video of Dave in his mancave was filmed 2 years ago, i only discovered it last night, i just couldn't stop listening to it well past midnight, i thought i was listening to Pink Floyd & Hendrix at the same time, Dave you are outstanding 😇 you give me goosebumps, & that Anderson's East Coast Gold top Gibson is as you rightly say sounds as good as the real thing for a fraction of the price! Unbelievable, keep up your amazing work Dave 🙏🤗🎸
Hello my gold top surfer friend I love your Melodies you take us to a trip thru the waves of rock cheers keep your endless Journey to the Infinity of Rock.
I feel the same about my 2021 Standard 60s and it's outstanding as it is so no need to mess with it at all. You don't need to mess with perfection. Like the vid Dave. Sweet tones and playing. 😎🎸 Subbed ages ago 🤙
Like many here, Dave, I’m thrilled to hear you getting such glorious sounds-and such happiness-out of a budget guitar. I loved the moment around 16:00 where you said you’d played other Les Paul goldtops ‘but they were Gibsons’. You could have meant of course that they were in a different league, but it came across as if you were just putting them on a level with the other brands you mentioned. Sooner or later I imagine one fo the big guitar brands is likely to offer you a signature guitar. We all know how this works. A star player gets given an expensive piece of gear and then other players believe they must buy it in order to achieve excellence. What would be brilliant would be if you insisted that a signature guitar of yours had to be affordable. In the pedal world, it’s clear that many of the budget brands are producing very exact clones of boutique pedals for a fraction of the cost and that the main reasons you don’t see them often on pro boards is a) that the pros have been given expensive demo pedals free and b) the lingering feeling that there’s ‘just something about’ the expensive version that sounds better (which is sometimes true, sometimes false). You’ve done a lot to get guitarists concentrating on what gear does rather than how much prestige it carries, though you do recognise that some expensive gear is special and justifies its price. Anyway, at at time when the guitar business is encouraging us to be reckless consumers, it’s great you’re doing your bit to bring some humility and genuine thoughtfulness into the discussion of gear. Thanks, Dave.
Well... Made a decision... and started researching and searching... and yesterday bought a Stagg (HH) STA-L400-TS ... Thanks for ALL presentations / demonstrations (including this vid)... which helped me make Final decision and choice... Tried 'plenty' Brands / Models ???? and as you already are knowing. "Each to his/her own". Who is happier ? Me or You ?? Am thinking we are both Happy Chappies !! Am heating UP the 15 Watt valve Blues Junior ltd... Cheers ! Christie... 🤠...
Removed the wax....I don't think dave realises how much he teaches us all sorts ....I learn so much from this guy...didn't Evan realise there's wax on the pick ups... I'm not very technical...im self taught and this last few years I've learnt more from him than any one ... I don't think he just teaches for any other reason than he likes to help people...and that is a great thing to be in life...also dont think dave realises how many people are better players due to him sharing the secrets..dave ya a legend ...love the new guitar
Ahh ma. Glad you found one you love!!! I too had the use your illusion dvd and also coveted a gold top for ages !! I’m playing a 1999 epiphone gold top still and love it! Been rewired and refretted and well played but I wouldn’t swap it
It's nice to find someone who is not dazzled by the name on the headstock. Well done Dave for seeing past that. One of my favorite guitars is a "Gear For Music" Es175 copy. It comes out gigging more than my Fenders. Keep up the good work.
Nice gold top. Everybody needs at least one. I have a special run gold top Epiphone Riviera P93. Three P90s and an infinite variety of tones on tap. It's my #1.
Hi Dave, Love the Tones, Happy for you and your best new wooded friend - 🎸 - You're blessed with the "Muse" of sharing the sounds in your soul. "Give me the beat boys and free my soul, I wanna get lost in your Rock & Roll and drift away" - 🎼🎶 I raise a pint to you, 🍺 Jim - Arkansas-USA🤘
Awesome Dave, So Happy for you, can feel your Excitement/Enjoyment with this guitar. Very Cool. I have recently purchased my first Les Paul Copy (Freedom brand White Custom- Stunning). This guitar is totally amazing, and just makes me WANT TO ROCK. String Bending etc is unlike any guitar I have ever played. I have not been able to walk past this guitar without picking it up and playing. So Very Cool Feeling. Thanks for your awesome videos and awesome playing. Cheers from Australia.
I was on the fence about the L1 but after watching this video I bit the bullet and picked one up. I've had it for 2 days now and I absolutely love it! I can't believe how much guitar you get for £200. I got the tobacco sunburst and think it looks stunning. Such a nice guitar to play. I was expecting rough fret ends at this price point but they are clean as a whistle. I love the sound from this machine as well. I'm so glad I found this video to help me make a good decision. Epic video/playing. 🤘🏻
