Hi Bro, so sorry, we have never caught a mullet on rod and reel BUT we have met a few old timers who told us the bait to use is bread. they tie a specific sabiki rig for mullets, its a series of small hooks tied very close together (about 6 hooks at 1 inch apart) with very thin fluoro line. the hooks are far up in the rig so that its near the surface, then they will throw small pieces of bread to attract the mullet near(not too much, you dont want to overfeed the mullets) the old timers also said, 'be quiet and dont move too much, mullets are easily spooked' just sharing what we learnt during our fishing sessions from people we meet.
