Hi, I'm from Germany, and I just wanted to thank you for reenacting this part of my country's history (even though I was born after that era in Lower Saxony, West Germany)! I'm really impressed by your dedication, especially how you care about not damaging the original furniture. Keep on with your important work and best wishes from Germany! 🇩🇪
We are glad you liked it, we want to do our best to keep this part of history alive for east and west germany. One of our members uncles served in the bundeswehr in the 1980s so he is one of our more direct connections to the history, but natually we interview veterans of the nva and bundeswehr as much as we can. Please check out our Instagram we have alot of great photos on there and thanks again for watching!
@@OSTWESTLHG Yeah the wood kinda threw me. You'd imagine a large company could manufacture 1970's plastic and Bakelite. 🤷♂️ The Bakelite handguard is remarkably efficient. Excellent at keeping the heat off your hand. The stocks are narrow at the butt, and You'd think that it wouldn't be comfortable. It fits tight "in the pocket". The best feature of the grip is the manner in which it is textured. Using the corners {instead of the sides} gives a very solid hold.
Something to aid in reassembly: The lug {at the bottom of the recoil spring guide rod} can be rested against the rear trunnion. Do this, the place the top cover on the rifle. Retract the bolt handle, and that lug will jump into the locked position. No banging on it required.
Yo this channel is awesome and just in time for me! I have a partially collected West German kit and I just got started collecting my East German kit a week ago. Just got my bayonet last Saturday in fact. Hoping to see more videos from you guys in the future for both East and West German kits!
You are choosing to collect some of the most overlooked history in the 1980s so good on you. If you are in California and looking for a reenactment unit we currently do East German Motorized and West German Panzer Grenadier. If not and you just need help with East and West German items and impressions please message us on Insta, we would love to help! instagram.com/ostundwestlhg/?igshid=MTk0NTkyODZkYg%3D%3D
@OSTWESTLHG i would've loved to join a reenactment unit but i live all the way on the other side of the world and we don't have that kind of stuff still thank you for your consideration i'll definitely be checking out your insta :)
How You mount stock without modifications? I have a GHK AKM and original AK stock is impossible to mount without modifications. Handguard and grip no need modifications, but stock need it.
With some of our east german stocks we have found that poor storage conditions has resulted in stocks that swell and get bigger overtime, however this means that even on real aks these stocks would not fit. I suspect the same could be happening to you, however the easy fix is to look at your ghk stock and see where the real stock is bigger, then lightly sand down then spot that's bigger until they look to be about the same thickness, this will allow your stock to fit on the ghk and a original ak if that time ever comes. Best of luck with your project!
W&S sells a full travel guide rod and hammer that's pretty cheap and completely transforms the feeling without having to buy the full steel bolt, highly reccomended for reenactment
We have looked into those and will most likely upgrade to using them pretty soon, we are currently putting most of our funds to west german items and g3a3s at the moment.
For a time there I believe E&L and GHK were using the same body materials so that makes sense, I just know for some AK AEG brands the bayonets do not fit
@@OSTWESTLHG lct makes GHK bodys. E&L has a sister company and its arcturus. Das ist was ich weis. Kenne einen spieler der hat seine GHK auch mit den MPI sachen ausgestattet.
@@sanybalkanaciairsoft3253 ah, thats what it was, i swapped LCT for E&L, nevertheless I know my bolt AKM had issues with the bayonet, and ive heard issues with cyma as well. But as a unit we still recommend not using electric guns as the gearbox still gets in the way of the pistol grip, unless you get a certain type.
I don't do Airsoft or reenacting but this was a very interesting video to watch. I finally acquired the East German Furniture myself with the lower bakelite handguard. I've been searching for it for a while. I could always find the wood lower handguard but that is not what I wanted. I bought a PSA AK101 in 5.56 but with the piece style rear trunnion instead of the sidefolding assembly so I can used standard AKM stocks instead of AK100 series folding stocks. I wanted a 5.56 gun because it's easier and cheaper for me to find ammo than 5.45x39. I put the east german furniture on, I have the clip on night sights, and if I wanted I can put on the east german folding stock as I have one too. The only thing I need now is the East German Ak74 bayonet and the east german Bakelite magazine which I can use the Pod Arms followers to reliably feed and convert the magazine from 5.45x39 to 5.56x45.
That's a really cool project and probably a route we would have gone to if weren't based out of California, but sadly the best we can do out here for reenactment is airsoft unless we want to pay 3000$ for a crappy bfong. Nevertheless, east german bayonets can be most commonly found on ebay. Here is our video guide on east german bayonets if you need it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dZCe0Dqa8eY.htmlsi=nB3lsTCCYriR226W. As for the magazines, maybe check out this guy's shop mokasraifus.com/.
Superb guide, a journey I am soon to embark upon, GHK it is. I am interested to know, would a GHK take an original East German folding stock with the latch mechanism fitting within the rear receiver?
To our knowledge the GHK should take the folding stock without issue, as unlike other al folding stocks, the East German style fits on aks without modification or special buttons, check out this video by some guy to see how to install and thanks for watching. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-isG6d-vdCpg.htmlsi=dX_A5XpB7dvo8Ufv
I have seen those before, however they are around 50$ or so not to mention that All AEGS akms that we have looked at, (LCT, E&L, Bolt, and Cyma.. have akms with a weird mounting point for the buttstock, it is typically two metal slabs that are in the way. thus GHK or any GBB is probably still the best way to go in our opinion.
Hi there! I've been wondering whether you've published the 3D printable MPi-KM furniture anywhere? I'd love to get my hands on it! Keep up the great work :)
I'm sure we have the files lying around somewhere on one of our old devices, I can attempt to look for them. However, it should be noted that one of the major reason for making this video was to keep people away from doing this route, as we found you wind up with a product that is not correct, satisfying, all while spending way more effort.
@@OSTWESTLHG honestly man it would be a lifesaver for me i have found everything except the bakelite lower handguard and i can't use the pistol grip either. bakelite lower handguards are impossible to come by in Turkey not to mention how much it would cost to get one even if i found one for sale abroad
I bought a real steel gasblock for my we akm - i grinded it down so it would fit . later I found out that this gasblock ist from a MPi because of th brown plastic. Im also thinking about to ad those MPi parts
Very cool, if you are already that deep into it where you have an east german gas block, you might as well add the rest! Just remember to get the regular non hooked slings, as those were only for 74s
Just found your channel and this is awesome content! Love all of the tips y’all gave in this video. I recently just “finished” my field Grenztruppen impression, besides the correct bayonet, and I been wanting to modify my Ak so it can somewhat accurate. So what you guys doing with the 3D printed parts? Would y’all be willing to sell them?
We are glad you enjoyed our videos, never the less we would still stick by that from our experience using gas AKs with original East German parts is the only real way to do it correctly, however If you'd still like to buy the east german 3d printed furniture we might have copies. wtf? Just dremel the shit out of the original furniture there's still a lot of it out there... What's it worth if you bought original furniture and then not putting it on the damn airsoft... That's like buying a nice car and not driving it. lol I have modified original russian wood furniture for my airsoft and it came out real nice. A few years back I modified a CO2 AK from China and modified original East German furniture to make it fit. It came out really awesome! I even cut an original east german AK mag open to make the CO2 unit fit. Worked like a charm! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QmGJTDbCrVo.html
5 years ago when that video was made maybe it was smart to dremel the stocks as they were cheap back then, good condition east german stocks can go for up to $250 now, and if you dremel the stock you will never be able to fit it on a real rifle again without heavy modification. In the current ebay market when east german helmets that used to go for $40 two years ago, are now 120$ its best to play it safe and not damage anything. Ghk provides the perfect rifle for our uses and provides decent realism as well. All well not having to modify any furnature. We are also a reenactment group, it would sit fairly heavy conscious to destroy original anything east german or west german. (That video is very cool still)
