Incredible! Germany played Germany. In Germany. While hosting the world cup in Germany. Even though Germany lost to Germany they still won the German World Cup inside Germany.
Outstanding, brilliant, and memorable football from both West Germany and East Germany!! In the 1970s, the political and football rivalry between these two German teams was so intense and dramatic !! West Germany won the World Cup in 1974, beating Holland 2-1 !! Meanwhile, East Germany became 1976 Olympic champions beating Poland 3-1 !! This was the finest era in World football !!
There were many ball designs before and after, but somehow only this pattern with small black pentagons is the one which referres to football game in my childhood memories
гдр это тоже самое что днр и лнр.Очевидно же было что это все закончится и будет снова единая Германия.Так и вышло,как только совки ушли,исчезла и гдр...
@user-6oiut The political and football rivalry was so intense to boiling point throughout!! But the pure football played by both GDR and DDR was extremely exciting and very thrilling to watch!! The football by both the German teams was simply breathtaking, splendid, and marvelous to watch!! This was among the finest era of football !!
''Alemania tiene un record imbatible, es sino el unico es el primer pais que juega un mundial dividido en 2 naciones diferentes, un partido, entre la federal y oriental''.
Este fue el único partido que jugaron ambas Alemanias en una copa del mundo. De 1990 jugó por última vez la Alemania federal (oeste), 20 años después jugarían en Estados Unidos 94 la Alemania unida después de la caída del muro de Berlín el 9 de noviembre de 1989 qué puso fin la Guerra Fría.
Before this 1974 World Cup game, in the 1972 Olympics in Munich, East Germany had beaten West Germany in the Quarter-Final 3-2 !! Looks like West Germany had lost twice both in the 1972 Olympics and the 1974 World Cup to East Germany!!
I remember watching this game on a black'n'white Magnavox TV. Each 'Germany' played against a mirror. Same style, same strategy. Now, having said that, I miss divided Germany... The mistrust, the betrayals, the conspiracies. The gray areas and the undercurrent of Nazism. In both sides there was determination & focus, because there was structure. "Before, he was evil and my enemy. Now, he is evil and my friend" Does anyone out there remember those romantic sentences? Damn...
I was young when I watched that match, and I thought it was a surprise that the GDR won, having been underdogs on the eve of the match. Then, as time went by, I saw it and saw it again several times (you can find it everywhere) over the years and everything was clear. Just look at the attitude of the West Germans throughout the match and even after Sparwasser's goal. Not at all upset nor desperate or angry. It's the missed goals almost on purpose in the few opportunities created... Why is everything clear? If they hadn't lost, they would have won the group and then they would have met Holland, Brazil and Argentina in the final group: with that Netherlands (which was then beaten in the final, but in a match that I would define as strange given how it went...) but even that Brazil, I am convinced that they would have been eliminated. Instead, as runners-up, they meet Yugoslavia, Sweden and Poland... quite a difference, isn't it? That World Cup at home, the West Germans COULD NOT AND SHOULD NOT FAIL, in any way. So, what importance could it have to lose against our poor neighbors to the east, when we had a practically certain path to the final with such an easy group? For the GDR, however, beating the West was a question of political pride much more than sporting one. For Lorie, the world championship had already been a success with that victory and could have ended there too, their great feat was accomplished (in fact, in the group with Holland, Brazil and Argentina, they only achieved a draw with the Argentines and 2 defeats.. ). Therefore, a match that went down in history above all for the GDR, rather than for its real result, which instead became decisive for the West Germans. The best (and most true) thing about that match was the beautiful goal from Sparwasser, who was a great player for Magdeburg, and it was no coincidence that he had won the Cup Winners' Cup a month earlier by beating Milan.
The stories, as you call them, you make up. I have more than one reason to think about what I wrote, and I have a lot of memory of what happened. You can think whatever you want.
interesting observation I think the communists would've been killed had they not won this match or you could argue the west germans already knew this and played accordingly? or you could also argue that they did NOT want to face Brazil or Argentina later so therefore they CHOSE to lose the game ? but we could only know this for a fact if and only if they had FOREKNOWLEDGE of the result of this game that is to say that THEY DID not care ? so which is it? did it not matter to the west germans to win this game?
@@derick3482 No, it wasn't, precisely for all the reasons I listed and explained. In fact, West Germany had an easy game against Poland, Yugoslavia and Sweden.... however, East Germany lost clearly against Holland and Brazil, and obtained a draw in the last against Argentina when both were already eliminated... then, everyone can think or believe what they want, but history tells us that it went exactly like this, until the title won by the West Germans. Then, for those who were lucky enough to watch that match live as I did when I was a boy, they remember everything: the attitude of the West Germans on the pitch was anything but incisive, aggressive, proactive as one should have when YOU MUST WIN a match... on the contrary, those from the East put everything on the pitch, everything they had in their bodies to be able to demonstrate that they could defeat the rich West, a boast, a propaganda and a pride for the Honecker regime and companions. Last but not least, if you had been Helmut Schoen you would have told your team in the locker room to spit blood to beat their poor cousins from the communist east, or you would have remembered that by losing they would have avoided Holland (the favourites), Brazil and Argentina. finding the road practically clear towards the Munich final? Well, there isn't much doubt, taking into account all the circumstances of that match...
@user-my After this important and most symbolic victory over their West German rivals, Erick Honsekar, the then East German President, used all his political muscles, ensuring that the two German teams NEVER met again in any tournament!! Thus ensuring this most important World Cup victory will forever be East Germany's symbolic eternal victory over the Western World!!
Stfu it was a close match and they actually had really good opportunities. But Jürgen Croy did insanely good work as a keeper!! Stop making up poor excuses
