With GWR Castle Class 4079 'Pendennis Castle' visiting the East Lancashire Railway as part of her centenary tour, opportunity arose to host a variety of locos all linked to the BR Western Region, with the Centenarian Castle running alongside a selection of the railway's diesel home fleet.
Leading the billing were Western Diesel-Hydraulics Class 14 "Teddy Bear" D9531 'Ernest', Class 35 "Hymek" D7076 and Class 42 "Warship" D832 'Onslaught', all three of which being synonymous with the BR Western Region throughout the 1960s, with the Class 42 "Warships" having replaced the Castles and Kings that preceded them.
The Warship's successor, the Class 50, was represented by 50015 'Valliant', sporting BR Large Logo livery, a common look for the class throughout the 80s and early 90s. Class 45108 also made a brief appearance, with the Peaks having been a common sight in the 70s and 80s on cross country services to Bristol, Exeter and Penzance.
In addition to the Western line-up, Hunslet Austerity 2890 'Douglas' featured on the line's dining train, having returned to East Lancashire at the end of 2023 after an extended period running at the Spa Valley Railway.
