55009 and 31108 star at the Great Central Railway's Spring Diesel Gala for 2024, running alongside members of the GCR's home diesel fleet.
The event saw 55009 'Alycidon' carrying the identity of lost class-mate 55013 'The Black Watch', applied to the locomotive last year to honor former Deltic driver Harry Wilson. Sadly, Harry Wilson passed away at the age of 100 earlier in April, and so the Deltic carried a wreath throughout the event in his memory.
The gala also saw the launch of BR Mk1 SK 25711 in BR Blue and Grey livery, making for an appropriate pairing with many locos running during the event. Other locomotives from the home fleet included 50017 'Royal Oak', Class 45 D123 'Leicestershire and Derbyshire Yeomanry', and Class 37 D6700, currently on long term loan from the National Railway Museum.
