I never fished Roosevelt Island until today. Always wanted to. I had no idea it was filled with so many great fishing opportunities.

...so ive also been noticing these small fish every where in nyc???...i havnt caught a big porgy yet?!?...any suggestions??
@BobAquatic
@BobAquatic Месяц назад
Just sorta the flow of the seasons, every year is a bit different. The larger porgy seem to swim out offshore when the water really heats up

Do this guy catch nice size fish? He’s like catching small bait size fish.
@BobAquatic
@BobAquatic Месяц назад
Sometimes, I do like to catch and small fish. But the big fish that type of fish is kind of fun to catch but sometimes hurts my arms because it is so big. So sometimes I like to catch the big fish but sometimes the big fish hurts my arms. I don't know, it is really contemplative. Do I catch the big fish and hurt my arms or catch the small fish and have fun?

@lisov4575 Месяц назад
How do you not snag on all those rocks?
@BobAquatic
@BobAquatic Месяц назад
You can't let the current sweep your line or weight when you hit bottom. Lift the weight up if you're drifting so it doesn't sweep into a snag. Reel in the slack line as soon as you can when you hit bottom, could be your line pulling the weight into snags too with the current
@robertfunk2796
@robertfunk2796 Месяц назад
hello......you just might try free lining, that is flipping out without any weight and let out a good amount of line & eventually it will sink -- the wind & the tide might make it more difficult but I have caught thousands of fish this way; its tough though to get if over the rocks, more fish this way
@BobAquatic
@BobAquatic Месяц назад
I do that during the slack. But you can't really get away with that in the east river deep areas unfortunately, maybe in the shallow water breaks
@robertfunk2796
@robertfunk2796 Месяц назад
@@BobAquatic that waters got to be running fast...I've never fished there but what street is a good place to fish?
@BobAquatic
@BobAquatic Месяц назад
@@robertfunk2796 its all sorta similar water on the streets, I would try the piers first if you've never fished it. Wherever is closest and easiest for your commute. There is a lot of marked "fishing" piers on google maps

Yeah I used to go to Roosevelt Island on an outgoing tide using sand worms call porgies striped bass when you do go back there get a dozen sandworms you'll be amazed what you be getting Blue fish there porgies fluke just try to get there on incoming tide or outgoing tide you will be amazed
@BobAquatic
@BobAquatic Месяц назад
That area is really good. I could see the potential for larger game fish. These trips are awesome scouting missions for the Fall. Found so many spots to add to the list. Live Sand worms are #1 this time of year. Wish I was better at digging for them
@Bass59
@Bass59 Месяц назад
@@BobAquatic since I live on Staten Island I don't got to go to Roosevelt Island Staten island's open ocean fish anywhere I mean that catching weakfish porgy striped bass spots which are lafayette's we got food all over the place and it's close to the Staten Island ferry

Hey Bob! Great video. It's so much fun to catch those seabass. They are the sunfish of saltwater. I too wanted to try out the pools at the Roosevelt Island. The next spot should be governors Island. Same thing, plenty of seabass and porgies. Also, you might to try the hook at the red hook, by ikea. I think that would be a good video.
@BobAquatic
@BobAquatic Месяц назад
Hey AZ! What's up. The sunfish is a good analogy. I have fished that red hook area, its great. But the Governors island has totally been on the video list. Good suggestion. Going to make a trip over there. Thank you AZ, hope you are catching them up
@AZ-NY

@@BobAquatic this entire summer, I couldn't fish except for an hour at grafton lake state park. And that too without any lures or baits. I got few sunfish with stuff that I was able to dig up around the park. Other than that, nothing actually.

Thanks for another great video. Shrimp is a very versatile bait. I find porgies are a lot less likely to hit artificials, unlike fluke.
