After Steve and Mel left, Eastenders never recovered. Every single executive producer that came after Matthew Robinson has failed in providing the quality story telling and necessary drama needed to justify its continued airing on BBC as paid for by the license fee.

At Steve's funeral Mel said she wouldn't fall for liars again then ended up with ray. Steve put her through a lot. She still loved him. Her and Lisa were best friends

What made no sense about this story is that mel left the country after when surety her passport would have been surrendered. And she returned years later and no mention of it, the police would have arrested her.

I think Steve Owen basically framed Mel for drug smuggling. Steve was a dodgy as hell and also sold E20 behind Mel’s back and slept with Sam Mitchell as well. Poor Mel.
