I also like the woody stems the holiday cacti develop with age.

Just gorgous! I purchased an Easter cactus last yr, in spring and she was in bloom "Red" @ the time. She did put on a show again, this past mid march and she had doubled in size. I recently purchased 2 Holiday cactus, 1 fuscia and 1 white with pink highlights. I love all my 29 plants, from Adenium's, to cactus as well. Happy growing, love the video ❤️❤️😊

I am so glad I ran into your video. I just purchased the 4" from Home Depot about a week ago and it has since bloomed but I was worried because I thought I killed it. Her leaves looked like it collapsed. I didn't realize that they cascade and that the flowers opens up and closes. Thank you for saving my concerns! Love your Easter Cactus. I got the pink one as well. Can't wait when it gets big like yours. Great Video!!! ♥

Since you have multiple colors of rhipsalidopsis, have you tried crosspollinating them to see what colors you would end up with?
@EpiphyticCacti

Lol, I have so many ripe fruits on them and will harvest and sow some of them. I really enjoy Rhipsalidopsis hybrids and think there should be way more in the world. This would be my first time trying it for Rhipsalidopsis! 💚🌱

How long do they live?? How old is yours? I just picked an orange one up!

Mine was about 3 years old at this time. They can live for a very long time, I’ve heard of people keeping them for like 20 years.

When flowers are done and drop - sometimes there's a little pod they came from. Do I pluck these off or leave them?
@EpiphyticCacti
@EpiphyticCacti Год назад
Hi Tambourine, if they were fertilized the ovary will swell and create a fruit. When the fruit is ripe, it takes a few months and you can tell because it will get a bit transparent and give a bit when squeezed, you could pick them harvest the seeds and plant them. If you don’t want to grow your own hybrids from seed though you can just pluck them off and toss them.

Haha, it took some time before I realized the flowers opened and closed throughout the day. I was getting frustrated. These blooms are magnificent!

Do you pinch out the dead flowers?
@EpiphyticCacti
@EpiphyticCacti 3 года назад
No, I just let them be. It wouldn’t be an issue to pinch the dead flowers but I like to let them set fruit.

Does yours grow little prickly cactus babies at the joint?
@EpiphyticCacti
@EpiphyticCacti 2 года назад
I haven’t seen this one do it but I do have some that grow small 3 or more angled clades with much longer spines. Some clones of the species R. rosea have a strong tendency to produce growth like that so I think it’s inherent in varying degrees in their hybrids. 💚🌱

Lovely plant and video. I can’t seem to make my Easter cactus happy. It keeps dropping segments, even though it looks healthy, shiny and green. It is even growing new segments. Can you give any advice? It is in well draining soil, bright indirect light inside, watered when the first inch of soil is dry. It seems to drop after I water it. I’m wondering if I water it too much or am I waiting too long to water and it shocks it when it gets a good water.
@EpiphyticCacti
@EpiphyticCacti 2 года назад
When you water are the segments starting to look a little desiccated? My gut instinct is overwatering, indoors they are harder to grow because we need to water them a little less. It helps to keep them in small pots if you are prone to overwatering, not sure on your pot size. You can send pictures to epiphyticcacti@gmail.com and I might be able to be of more help.

Beautiful plant! I hope mine looks that way someday. 🌸🪴🌸💖 Sorry to nitpick, but I believe there’s a typo in the title. “Rhipsalidopis”

No worries, thanks for catching it. At least it was in the title where I can easily fix it 🤣, once they make it into the video there isn’t much to be done!

Hi Tiffany, about 2 years from a 4” pot. I bought it from Home Depot as a 4” pot in the spring of 2018, this blooming was from the spring of 2020!

Last year some orange ones showed up at a lowes here. These weren't really on my radar at the time so I didnt pick any up. I went back the next day to get one for my BFs mom and they were ALL GONE! Now I need one lol

Nice! Lowe’s has always been great for carrying more interesting plants. Home Depot as well but I’ve never seen an orange rhipsalidopsis there. In the spring Whitton Greenhouses carries some wonderful and a little more unique rhipsalidopis too.

What’s MSU fertilizer?
@EpiphyticCacti
@EpiphyticCacti 2 года назад
Hi, you can read about it here: www.aos.org/orchids/additional-resources/a-new-fertilizer-without-high-phosphorus.aspx While it is orchid fertilizer keep in mind many orchids are epiphytic and grow in many of the same places.

I just bought one from Trader Joe's last night. Saw your comment when I came to YT for care videos (compared to my Thanksgiving cactus), so I figured I would reply so you get a reminder to check in the stores near you. 🙂
