PLEASE NOTE: This is not a tech channel, but simply a show-and-tell. It is not designed to give advice and support on vacuum tube amplifiers but to show what I get up to each week in the workshop.
I deliberately keep tech talk to a minimum, or at least to a point where it’s understandable to the casual viewer. There are other channels more suited to that level of detail.
I do not do reviews, either paid or unpaid. My opinions are entirely my own and do not represent those of others.
All comments are welcome but those deemed unhelpful, rude, inappropriate, or unsavoury will be reviewed and possibly censored.

That Matamp is impressive. Your own Rift amps are truly world class and speak for themselves. I have never considered your channel anything more than a show and tell. Keep up the fantastic content my friend. Cheers..!

Hi Chris, you’re doing a great job with this channel. Not too techy or nerdy at all. Just about right. Thanks!

I had a Matamp in for a service a couple of years ago. Don't remember the model, but it didn't have reverb, and used 2x EL34. Had to change some of the pots and the filter caps. Same layout with "turrent strips". It had something special about the TMB-controls. Very interacting. Interesting amp! Keep the tech stuff coming!

Chris.. love the Chanel, I am a casual viewer & just enjoy seeing what you get up to.. I'm a guitarist who's got a couple of valve amps & just enjoy seeing what you do.. it's just a fascination of how things work .. keep up the good work 👍

I am a none techy user of your amps but my best mate is a true techy. I watch every one of your videos and I can now talk to him about all sorts of techy stuff but at my level. You have the level just right for lots of us. Fascinating stuff! and I appreciate the effort going in. Thanks

On the Matamp, did I spot some bias trim pots on the bottom of the board with only 3 bypass caps? Perhaps that is what the holes in the rear panel are for, to allow access to the trim pots. But the wording on the rear panel does say "bias test points", so who knows? Maybe someone removed any plastic insulating grommets that were once on the rear panel. I looked online for pictures of the R-28 to compare, but what I found on Reverb was the exact amp you have in your shop, going by the serial number, so that's no help!

Thanks for the look inside the Matamp. Hope you get sunny days soon, I'm ready for some sun too.

Great channel as I learn a lot from you so thanks. Magnetone amps seem very hi quality amps. Seen them played by the Captain. Used by Slash and Billy Gibbons. Will cost thousands of Pounds. I fully understand what you say about not going full tech talk. I used to be a bad Electronics engineer so you don't need to explain anything. From UK Essex boy of 70 years old

I don't know if this helps in regards to the grommet, but you should be able to find them at your local big hardware store,I build audio tube amps, only for myself, but in Australia I get them from our big brand hardware store outlet "Bunnings" you had them there in the UK before they closed up,they come in various sizes and they are good quality.

Good rant! I completed my degree in Electronic Engineering in 1977 and I don't recall any mention of valves except in passing as a historical fact. So, I quite enjoy watching your videos of fault finding with 500 V d.c. present and no obvious paramedic standing by. The level of technical detail you present is just fine for me so I will continue to watch and not bother sending you any adverse comments.

I find the tech talk useful to a degree. I dont need to understand how a part of an amp works but its nice to know its effect on the tone. Then when I'm shopping amps and I see stuff like "reduced b+ filtering" I have half an idea of what that might do to the sound.

Chris, your channel is just great, things like RU-vid are great for seeing creative and inspiring folk do ‘their’ stuff. However every silver lining has a cloud and as such some folk prefer to detract and demean others rather than doing anything creative and inspiring themselves. Your stuff is worth every bit of effort you put in as it will be encouraging others!!

I like the channel setup as you have it now, really enjoy the live streams too. As a junior amp builder/tech, I enjoy being able to ask you your thoughts on building!

Matamp upside down back plate - when you look over the top of the amp from the front, all the text is the right way.

Very disappointed, was expecting a rant, but all i heard was a well constructed response to trolls. Must try harder next time😜 Keep up the good work Chris, I enjoy your content and delivery style.

A number of those things I’d be highly concerned with on that ‘Matamp’ and I’m questioning where it came from as the guys in Yorkshire are usually very very serious about quality control and how things go out. 2003 I’m guessing it’s been played with over its life. I had a Matamp from 1969 and it seems guys love to ‘mod’ them.
