So much in my neighborhood... good reminder of how much exploring I still have to do! Next time you are here you should explore the Jarbidge Wilderness and The Ruby and Independence Mountains. P.S. I live in Spring Creek, NV at the foot of the Ruby Mountains.
These are simply the best overlanding videos available. The filming the editing and the narration are top-notch. Thank you for putting such hard work into these videos Brad. 👍
Was watching another channel I respect (Dirt Lifestyle) and he does a considerable amount of snow wheeling. His technique is low air pressure and lockers off, plowing, backing in tracks and plowing again. He reserves lockers for when you need them to get unstuck. Seemed to work well.
I love these mining, overland trips! Eastern NV looks amazing. What time of year was this? Do you still have the Power Wagon? I’d like to do some overlanding in my Ford F350 Tremor. I was looking to get into another Jeep but I’m in love with my truck. Are most of these trails look doable for a full size rig?
Hi! Brad: My dad was a scoutmaster, but I never wanted to become a scout. Still, I often remember the Scout motto - Be Prepared! That is what you need to be thinking when preparing for a trip. Forgetting to fill the washer bottle is not acceptable. Being prepared is like being happy. You either are or you aren't. Too, I notice a lot of Jeepers and 4wd enthusiasts think they can go anywhere. My background is 2wding. I love going places 4wd'ers got stuck. And I drive right on through without spinning my tires. It is not so much your vehicle, but what you know how to do with your vehicle. I've also noted a lot of 4wd'ers don't carry chains. Again, that idea - they can go anywhere. When Jim was having trouble keeping from sliding off the trail in the snow, that was a good time to put chains on. I know 4wd'ers think they have everything they need. But it never hurts to carry chains. Even if you aren't planning to go where it is snowy or muddy. Brad, try just once with chains on the front tires of your jeep, and see how you can still get around in slippery situations. Once you realize that, think how much better your Jeep can go with chains on all four wheels when the going is slippery. Oh, one more thing. Do you know what causes wash-board roads? Driving fast on dirt roads! In fact when you drive fast on a washboard road, what you are doing is extending the washboarding. Haven't you noticed, when you go through an area of washboarding you've been through before, the washboarding is most likely longer that it was the last time? The next time you go on a washboard road you often frequent, put a marker at the end of the washboarding. Then check the length of it again on a later trip. Oh, I'm now a four year owner of a 34 year old Jeep Cherokee. But I still drive like I have 2wd. I only use 4wd when truly needed. And I never spin my tires if I can help it. Brad, don't forget, Be prepared!
Been to Delmar NV 2x. First as a kid in the 70's and once in the late 80's. Glad to see the cemetery has been preserved and restored. The rocks are very sharp and rough. Have good tires and footwear if you plan to explore.
Nice!!!! Beautiful landscapes. When I was in the US (Chicago) I met this old man in a pawn shop and we were speaking and he asked me if I had been to the west, and I answered him no, I haven't. He said "you got to go to the west, the most beautiful places in the US are in the west". Your videos prove him right. Now, I got a question, how much you got to budget, let say, per day? Gas, food and other expenses included?
Hey Brad - Thanks for the great video about the awesome places in Nevada. I can't wait to visit them. I see you're using your ShiftPodI and I have a question. Here in Idaho, it can get quite cold even in the summer at higher elevations and out in the desert. My daughter and I sleep in a Gazelle T3 tent (love it but it's a little too small now) but it does not retain any heat in the tent (even when I toss a blanket over the top) so it's very cold in there camping late fall through spring. Since we need to upgrade to a larger size, I'm thinking of getting a ShiftPod-III-Mini instead to help out keeping it warm during the cold Idaho nights. Does the heat they retain make them worth the much higher price? Just looking for some trusted advice from someone how has had personal experience with the ShiftPod-III-Mini... Thanks again and tell Regina hi...
I've had the shift pod in some very cold weather situation and it's been great! Here is a review video I did about it a little while back: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-G8y7ofHqKno.html
Love your videos, and your appreciation of the beauty of the empty spaces. I also enjoy watching a fellow retired sailor take to the mountains for a second chapter. I did the same, it’s wonderful.
54:02minutes it's not so long to watch. It's so amazing advanture to see the abandent mining ereas and landscape. This is my wish to be like you all brothers☺
My buddy and I went out to ocotillo for a day this past week and kinda got turned around on fish creek wash. (Wasn’t going to climb Heart Attack Hill). Found our way out and got home about 10:00 pm. Had a great time
At 24:03 you commented " we don't want to get too low and pick up sediments". Your fuel pick up is at the bottom of the tank. It doesn't matter how low the fuel is!!!
I'm so glad to see that you brought out the real Jeep. Last time the green Jeep kicked all your butts. Yeah, you were towing a trailer like an old man needing cushy comforts (lol), But still. This is way better. Awesome video!!!
I've driven right by on 93 before. Couldn't deviate and go exploring though. Hopefully you can go up to Oregon, my home state. And do some overlanding there.
Love the videos!! As a chef I will say, never pre season eggs. Salt breaks down the protein in the egg and you end up with watery eggs. Having them pre-cracked is a good idea tho. Thanks for sharing
Glad you guys are able to explore my home state. I've lived here in Las Vegas for 25+ years and I'm amazed that the amount of stuff you get to explore and uncover here are endless. Nevada was a mining state during the gold rush so you'll come across tons of ghost towns everywhere. I suggest exploring the north and some nuclear test craters in the vast deserts by Area 51. Good stuff.
I have a winter house in this area. My grandfather ran this rail road route for many years as a engineer. When I am not in Idaho wheelin this is where I like to be.
Hanging out at Copper Top BBQ in Big Pine noticed that nearly all of the Jeeps driving by are caked in dirt, whereas nearly all of the Tacoma's driving through are lightly dusty, that's funny.
I absolutely love the Big Pine area and will most definitely be stopping by Copper Top next time I am headed through that way~After all, BBQ is the BEST grub on God's green earth...YUM!!
@@sterlingmatsui154 Al is the pit master and manager. I bring Copper Top fat tamales from Ventura County and bags of my avocados. They feed me on my way up and feed me on the way down. Bring them food they normally can't get up there and they'll hook you up. I get the local discount because I take care of them.
Brad, as you said earlier you played this video before. But even so it's great to see it again! Especially since its in my backyard! Living in Reno, I've been on alot of the roads and trails you showed today. Nice to see other people enjoying them as well. Especially a retired Navy buddy. Funny you mentioned you were a boiler tech before you became a corpsman. I was a machinest mate on an amphib ship out of Long Beach. Who knows we might have crossed paths either in the engine room or in the chow line!
I was lucky to have several different friends like these guys over the years. I grew up in Vegas riding dirt bikes all over southern NV. Our neighbors were in their 60s and had grown up there. They showed us all kinds of hidden gems. I bought my first 4x4 in 1991 when I was a 18 yr old in the Navy. I was fortunate to hook up with some of the guys in Terra Del Sol. I’ve had the good fortune of meeting many others over the years to explore untold places from Baja to Moab and CO with. I’ve been to so many places over years but I bet I haven’t seen half of what’s out there.
Been to those. Hint: The best abandoned mine I've been to, The War Eagle mine, (Tecopa) and the 2nd best, the Pacifica Mine, near Pioche. Both must be wheeled to get to them. I rode a quad into the Pacifica mine. I won't spoil them anymore except, don't touch the dynamite in the War Eagle, it's old & unstable.
I swear I try to watch other vids of travel and either they can't edit or don't want to show the trip or the drive to destination. Tacoma Beast is good but to much of an infomercial for products Your channel and Marcos (3rd choice Pure4x4) hands down will be Oscar worthy and always better to watch than what's on TV.
I got my jeep because I'm a professional real estate photographer and I have to go to places like this all the time. The subaru legacy was not cutting it lol.
Due to you being a coffee drinker... I'll pass on an old timers trick on to you. After your coffee grounds are in your pot add about two or three pinches of salt into it... it takes out the bitterness of the coffee.
If you like the eggs in a peanut butter jar trick, you should try putting them in an old Coffee Creamer container. Easy to pour! We do the same thing with pancake mix if we bring it.
These videos have been amazing Ty so much, great on sleepless nights I just got a 22 jl , I’m starting on my build and did a few things based on your video with the mechanic, ty
Just found your channel and I’m hooked, not only your great shots but also your narration and how you take the time to educate everyone on all the history of your travels, you have a great attitude no matter what the challenges are, hope to see a lot more from you in the future
A hint from Montana... lol You can use snow if you are out of fluid to get that window clean... the grit from the snow crystals works great... not that its ever happened to me..
As i saw the 4 of you sit in front of the fore i realised, hold up, i saw this before. Then i saw when it was published and but it cant be… had to read the description to see what is going on. Thanx for the cool vids man
38:10 wish you had gotten close up images of the core and the core box writing. Getting the core wet could have also brought out some of features of the core.
A small Google Earth video insert of the town would help the viewers of the video without requiring them to pull a map out to look where the towns are located.
Honestly. A few years ago i would say i feel jealously when watching your video's. Now that I've grown as a man i feel happy for you living the kinda life i want. There's nothing more than i want than to be out exploring and building rigs. I don't wanna do my day job anymore which is a an auto tech in the insurance repair industry. It's very stressful and not reliable as in the work flow is never the same so my check varies massively. And then my rig being down for 4 months I've been extremely depressed and generally unhappy and stressed , i am happy for you and your family living this life and find great enjoyment watching your videos and living vicariously through what your living while I'm waiting on my new engine to get here. Thank you for sharing. It's getting me through these tough times
Sorry to hear that you're going through a rough patch and I'm glad the videos help. I know what it's like to go through some tough times. Being in the Navy for 26 years, I spent a lot of time deployed away from my wife and kids and some of my assignments were pretty stressful, like my tour in Fallujah with the Marines in 2006. And raising a young family on an enlisted Navy salary meant we often lived payday to payday. I knew I wanted a better life and I worked hard toward my goals (making rank) and kept a good attitude to get me through. What I'm trying to say is, if you aren't happy with where you are, maybe figure out how to set yourself on a different path and aim for the future you want. Hang in there buddy!
