Dude, you're demoing all the basses I wanna know about.

I have one of these. Put on some La Bella tapewounds-sounds fantastic. The bridge and cover for came off immediately for a hip shot vintage style bridge-huge improvement. Also added some lightweight hip shot tuners, and this made all the difference. I play it all the time. My pickup doesn’t have the same noise issue. Where you play on the strings makes a big difference in the tone.

Thanks Lobster - another great review! I agree with you on the price point. I was thinking $399 to $499 before you mentioned the $799 price. Yikes! Besides, if I were to play that bass I'd have to get one of those red hats that Devo used in their "Whip It" video. Cheers!

Human memory is so weird. I saw, and played an Ampeg like this in Baltimore in the 90s. It was fretless and in my memory it not only had a scroll at the top, but a fingerboard that was radiused like an upright. My brain has mixed playing the Ampeg with playing one of those Clevinger uprights. Weird. I wish I had bought it, now that I see the prices. They wanted like, $400 for it. I was like whatever and bought a fancy rack effect unit with a gated reverb in it. That will never go out of style. Thanks for reviewing all this cool stuff.

They almost sold me on the look. This is 1 of the very few non traditional looking Basses I’ve ever become enamored with. Came across 1 in a shop probably around 10 years ago & if it had been $400 I would most likely own it.

Maybe I missed it, but I didn't hear you mention where it's made. That's a vital piece of info for me when I go to buy a bass......

These are one of the Basses that was introduced to me in a Hall & Oates music video (although it was a fretless version).

Great work! How about the Italia Imola bass? They sound like a hot 70s jazz bass with a little woody growl. And the upper horn strap button is further toward the nut. I don’t know why they aren’t more well known. It’s a great bass with a cool look and a familiar sound with a twist.

I discovered this channel just a month ago due to a very hard GAS, and now I say "salutations crostaceans" every 5 minutes

The buzzing when you touch the pickup housing would be a deal breaker for me. I like the headstock but the scroll cutouts don’t really do it for me. Definitely overpriced.

I have one and I agree with LowEndLobster’s conclusion.

Good honest review. It sound good in the drum mix though.

I own one of these, bought it back when they we're only $499. I also owned an original '67 AEB-1. The headstock is a disappointment, but I can tell you that these sound miles better than the originals, especially compared to the earliest Ampegs that only had the "mystery" PUP. (As in, It's a mystery anybody thought that PUP sounded good). These, at least, sound like a P Bass, which is obviously a very useful sound.

Looks are an acquired taste but not bad. Sounds actually good- just wish there wasn’t pickup grounding noise. Otherwise balsy and kinda nice. Not sure the Fender-styled P-Bass cover looks right.

Nice looking bass Lobster! I agree, it doesn't sound like 800 dollars...at that price, I'd expect either better quality pickups or an active preamp...and no neck dive. This bass is the recipe for musical frustration 🤣 I was hoping that you had bought this bass and were planning on doing some crazy mods to It, like painting it Master Sword purple and sticking a Triforce sticker on the back 😗 Good content!!

I own one of these (fretless) and have always found the pick up weak but overall I like the sound. I play fretless but have no interest in being jaco so was looking for something that looked different also. I can switch from sounding like David J or Bruce foxton with Ernie ball cobalt flats. A sadowsky pre amp pedal solved the pick up and a blow out switch mod gives nice brasher edge for more bite.

I have this bass. One of my favorite basses. Not as dynamic as my p special deluxe plus. The balance is acceptable considering the body is so light.

Nice vid as always, Lobster! I gotta agree that this bass doesn't do it, especially at the price point. Do you have any experience with the lower tier of ESP's LTD budget line? What are your general impressions of the LTDs? Sorry if I confused you, but what I am trying to get at, is that if pretty much every single LTD from ESP is of quality? I am kind of looking at the ESP LTD B-10 (the newer model with a PJ configuration).

Idk about this instrument but the Ampeg version was better with flats and after that dub/ upright sound.

I really don't like to be negative but, for me I don't really appreciate the retro look of the bass. For $799. nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

Eastwood screwed up by not replicating the scroll headstock, imo.

I guess they said “No” to dipping it in soapy water? I do think that would have been fun. When you turned the tone all the way down, it had a sound, that took me a minute to remember... then I thought....”the next day after being right next to the monitors at the GWAR show”. I thought it had real a nice drive tone, once you added a pick. I’m not a fan of the shape or the holes, so it’s not the price, it would be a “no thank you” even at 299$.

Sounds very light and has that hollowness to the tone that is a product of it being sub eight pounds.
