Ive taken on mowing a guys property that on top of a mountain. Its a tiered yard and the lower section is teardrop shaped and about 1/2acre. Its dome shaped to and drops off over a 100 ft hillside to another home below. As i was mowing that lower portion the other day my x350 got stuck and i couldnt back awsy from that precipice. I was scared to release my park break and tryin push it. I was afraid itd get away from me and roll over the mountain. I eventually decided to tun the wheels all the way to the left and tryin push it uphill. I used my foot as a chock to keep it from rolling away. I was able to get it to where i could get enough traction,but i learned my lesson. I cant risk desyroying a $4k mower. Ill be pushmowing that part of his property from now on. That was a scary half an hour.
I had a great idea also. Chains of any sort dig up the grass. I bought comparable size atv tires, about $60.00 each for the drive wheels. Don’t tear up yard, have had them on one mower for over 11;years, no significant wear and my two other mowers are 6 & 7 years old with the same tires. Wouldn’t trade my tires for anything else to mow with. Just my 2 cents.
I contemplated that as well. I think the ride on ATV tires would definitely be better than the chains overall. Reading some online forums I was concerned that the ATV tires would provide too much traction for the transmission. Good to hear that you had good experience with them though.
Still going strong. I have the traction I need for mowing hills. They appear to be holding up well. The only complaint I have is the ride quality when driving on concrete. They're not made for ride quality on hard surfaces. If you have to drive much on hard surfaces then ATV tires are probably the better option.
have you ever tried letting half the air out of the rear tires for better traction on a hill? that's what this guy did ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I3KmjAKAT-I.html I've also seen people install ATV tires on their lawn tractor.
I never aired down. That’s too much effort. I think the atv tires are a good alternative though. I was going to go that route but ended up with chains. Atv tires might be more comfortable on hard pack too.
