For sure Ashlyn - you can use any kind of paper you wish! Students in my classroom have used unwanted tempera paintings on plain paper for "Arty" snowflakes as well. :)
Thank you!!! Your video on these has the key point I was missing in the others about where to cut the slits. "Make three cuts parallel to the open side." That little detail helped so much! Hot glue not needed. Use a small stapler or tape.
