Beautiful. I love this mug style. Is it the 9oz #4403 from Maryland China? Can you tape off the rim area to protect it during spraying? Thanks for sharing.
They look lovely and the colours great. I paint mugs with Lustre then I have to fire them to 800 Degrees in the kiln but I don't have to varnish them. Your way seems a lot easier with alcohol inks.
There are so many to choose from on Amazon and they are very affordable. Here is one like the one I bought Creative Cuptisserie Cup Turner Double Tumbler Steel Frame Cup Spinner Machine for Drying Epoxy Resin DIY Rotisserie Motor Rotator Kit to Personalize Tumbler Crafts at Home Update a.co/d/9liwPUH
There are so many out there. But if you are just getting started this is a good low cost choice. Cup Turner for Crafts Tumbler - Cuptisserie Tumbler Turner with 2-Way Spin & Silent Rotisserie Motor, Cup Spinner for DIY Glitter Epoxy Crafts Tumblers… a.co/d/1giXdzL
When you spray the kamar, how and where do you do that? And how do you not get spray marks in the alcohol inks? That is something I have had trouble with . I hope that makes sense. Your videos are great! Thanks!
I spray outside and usually let the inks dry overnight. Also hold the can six inches away and spray lightly so you don’t get runs or drips. Hope that helps! Thanks so much!
I have a question, as I must saw your Instagram video showing all your items in a shop. I poured on a porcelain dish very similar to the ones you have in the video. I resined over it. I’m scared the resin may come off. I’ve never poured on porcelain before. I cleaned with alcohol first, poured, and only resined where the paint was. You are the only other artist Ive seen do this. How did you prep your surface and do you think it would hold up to hand washing?
Hi. So I don’t paint the porcelain before the resin. I clean the porcelain with alcohol and then pour my resin. The Resin adheres well to it and i have not had any issues. I always suggest only hand washing. Hope that helps!
Wow, these are beautiful!! I have used the Brite on paintings, and was not fond of it….felt rubbery. How does it feel to the touch on the mugs? Sounds like a better option than resin. Not dishwasher safe, right! Thank you, Tina! ❣️
Thanks Kathy. It feels very nice almost resin like on the mugs. I used it on paintings too only one coat though. I would say hand-wash only. But even if it was i wouldn’t put anything hand made like these in the dishwasher.
Beside prepping the mug by cleaning it with alcohol, do you do any other prep to it before applying alcohol ink? You mention Krylon or Kamar but I saw you sealing with Brite Tone, what are you using the other two for? Thank you!
All i do to prep is wipe clean with alcohol. Sealing is a process. I spray the mugs first to seal in the inks because I find the brite tone can reactivate the inks and cause some smearing and running that ruins my design. I do this same process to my alcohol ink paintings before resin.
Quick questions, approximately how many mugs can you seal with a pint or quart of bride tone? Also, how long is it good for once opened? I need to decide on the size I want to purchase to seal the new ceramic items for my shop. Thanks, love your video, it helped out so much because I wanted to add some new items to my shop.
I have about a half of quart left and I would say I have coated at least 2 dozen mugs and a painting as well. It goes a long way. Use several thin coats on ceramics.
@@TSRCreations Thanks that helps out alot. I appreciate it. Your work is beautiful. I had this idea in my head before I found your channel. So it was nice to see someone actually do what I was thinking about before I did it. LOL.... I do alot of mixed media products and had been putting off playing with alcohol inks. Now that I have, I find them fun, relaxing, and want to add a few items to my shop for diversity.
Hi Gina. You can use a low heat blower sure but the inks will dry a lot faster and won’t move as well. Also the Brite tone will reactivate the inks so you have to seal them first. Thanks
