This easy and delicious Italian sausage vegan style is by far, the best sausage I have ever made, I only use simple and easy to find ingredients that's available probably worldwide and it is way, waaaaay better and much more affordable than the store-bought ones you see on the market.

EASY AND DELICIOUS ITALIAN SAUSAGE VEGAN STYLE
INGREDIENTS:
2 cups of TVP
3 tablespoons (or more) of vital wheat gluten flour
1/2 cup of vegetable oil
Salt to taste (approximately 2 shallow tablespoons)
1/2 cup of dry white wine
2 tablespoons of a mix of dried oregano, dried parsley, and dried rosemary
1 tablespoon of smoked paprika
1 teaspoon of red chili flakes
1/4 teaspoon of liquid smoke or to taste
1 teaspoon of onion powder
2 teaspoons of mushroom powder
1/2 tablespoon of garlic blend (recipe below) or 2 minced garlic cloves
1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
2 tablespoons of barbecue sauce
3 tablespoons of tomato paste
1 teaspoon of lemon juice (optional but recommended)
METHOD:
Pass the TVP through a sieve, discard the dust, transfer the TVP to a large bowl.
Add all the ingredients except for the vital wheat gluten flour.
Mix very well to combine.
Cover the bowl and let it rest for 30 to 40 minutes.
Add the vital wheat gluten flour to the mixture, stir to combine, then blend it very well using a hand blender or a food processor.
Shape the sausages, then shallow fry them on medium-low heat for about 5 to 7 minutes on each side.

Jana, thanks so much for mentioning the reasons why most are vegan; I don't hear it enough on vegan channels. I do it for the animals and the environment, and, of course, it's a very healthful way to eat if done right (like all ways of eating!) 💚 This recipe looks easy and with ingredients on hand! Hi, Jana! I will also add some fennel seeds because they are often used in our sausages to give them a special flavour. Once someone told me that it's also a must to use just a little bit of cinnamon.

For gluten-free use oat flour. Chopped soy curls instead of TVP. Wizard Vegan Worcestershire instead of liquid smoke. 🎄🌠

I LOVE that you have a shower cap specifically for the kitchen! Fantastic idea-thanks for that. Thank you, also, for providing the written recipe, too! It’s really convenient & makes your recipes so much easier to follow. 😋❤️ I’m still kind of a vegan kitchen newbie... it’s so much fun though-so, so much better than all the worries that come with handling meat, eggs, & dairy. Hi Chef Jana, I love getting ideas from you 🤗Your nut cheese is delicious! I cruise your recipes looking for help for my sister. She needs to eat vegetarian for her health. She is also gluten intolerant and dairy intolerant. As a recovering alcoholic, the addition of wine is inappropriate for her. I made it today and the flavours are really intense! I'll propably cut down on the chili flakes next time. I'll also put more vital wheat gluten because mine kind of stuck together, but not everywhere, so it was a little bit crumbly. I don't drink so I never have wine at home so I just substituted it for a little vinegar dissolved in half a cup of water and I think I'll probably put less smokes paprika next time too, but REALLY! You’re so awesome! I love your answer to the question of “If you don’t want to eat meat, why try and make veggies taste like meat?” I’m using that! Because you’re right! 🙂 My brother gave me one of his homemade sausage herb packets he makes up to make his sausage, but he uses venison or pork. Merry Christmas!!! 🌟 This will go so good with the g/f pumpkin, tomato & spinach pasta dish I'm planning for New Year's Eve.. As always, the only substitution I will make to your original recipe is to find a replacement for the vital wheat gluten. Thinking perhaps a gluten-free flour blend with rice flour and tapioca starch. And hell yeah to your reasons for being vegan. Funny. For years, I was the crazy, hippie dippy vegan to acquaintances and even friends. Now those same people are turning to me as a resource because they are fed up with the meat industry and are looking to a plant-based diet. Many of them can't sustain being vegan long-term, cuz they don't know what to eat. Having foods like this, that are simple, affordable, and easy to shop for & prepare, helps make the transition easier 😁 Thank you so much for this awesome recipe - can't wait to see what you'll be cooking up in 2021!!!

Thanks for the recipe. I have never used TVP before. Flavour was good. They were cracking when I was forming them so I thought they would fall apart while frying which they did not. My finished product had a nice firm skin but were very soft inside. Any ideas why.

I've bounced back and forth, between veg and vegan my whole adult life; now I'm almost 50. Being vegan makes you stronger, and I can attest to that through experience.
