Hi Chef Corso- I ride motorcycles and camp with them when possible, so pack very light. My cookpot is the Stanley 2-cup, and my kitchen fits in it. Anyhow, I tried your Jerky Stroganoff, and with a few minor tweaks made a fantastic dinner. Here is what I used: 1 ½ tsp olive oil 1.4 oz jerkey, torn into chunks 1 beef Bouillon cube 1 ½ C water 4 oz medium width egg noodles 1 clove garlic, minced (or ½ tsp garlic powder) ¼ tsp fresh ground pepper 4 mushrooms, sliced 2 packets powdered creamer 1 packet Dijon mustard (or 1 tsp) 1 packet sour cream Basically following your directions, it turned out fantastic. Thank you for what you do, I've been recommending your recipes and Mont y Boca to my friends.

Instant classic. And a folding kitchen knife, that's how it's done. Keep up.

Added a splash of Worcestershire. I’m a celiac sufferer so I’ve subbed either GF rotini or pad Thai noodles.

Love your videos! Can’t wait to try this recipe out. Is there a particular brand of beef jerky that you would recommend or prefer for cooking? Some beef jerky is waaaay too salty, some too soft and may fall apart or melt.
@ChefCorso
@ChefCorso 2 года назад
most work pretty great. I have used Oberto multiple times with good results. The great part about the recipe is that the salt and seasoning help flavor the whole dish and if it falls apart, even better!

I have dried Portobello, Shiitake , and oyster mushrooms at the house all the time. I like making mushroom soup on the trail, and adding the Jack Links EXTRA TENDER ORIGINAL BEEF STEAK STRIPS to rehydrate. Have you found a lower sodium (no MSG) bullion cube? I found some good ones at Sams's and BJs. There is also a no refrigerate liquid that is not too bad, knorr bouillon concentrate. I add a drop to my eggs once in a while when I make my MESS breakfast MESS: eggs, hash browns, shelf stable bacon, ham cubes, cheese It cooks in a small pot (non stick) and makes a great breakfast especially for two. I just signed up to be a tester, now THAT sounds like fun!

Hey Chris! welcome aboard. Most have a pretty good amount of sodium as they're concentrated but you can add just a little to your dishes. When I'm using jerky, I often omit salt or sometimes the cube as the jerky provides enough flavor and seasoning for the pot. Cheers!

How much more fuel do you use? I've tried simmer meals on the trail before and used all my fuel in the first 4 days. Also how long will the mushrooms keep in a bear cannister? Do you suggest dried mushrooms for a seven day backpack? I love using fresh veggies and stuff but the extra weight and shelf life (pack life) sometimes outweighs the better taste.
@ChefCorso
@ChefCorso 3 года назад
Hello Slpy! Great Qs. There are a lot of variables for amount of fuel (elevation, recipes in meal plan, temperature, # of people I'm cooking for) but I usually take 8-16 oz. Fresh mush can keep for 3-4 days in a canister. I would suggest dried for longer treks. What I often do is start with fresh options at the start, then move to dryer options toward the end of a trek.

Yours looks way better. How do you convince people of the extra weight and cleanup, tho? I'm all on board but a lot of people have a hard time not eating food out of a bag.
@ChefCorso
@ChefCorso 4 года назад
everyone has a choice in what they would like to pack. This recipe feeds 2-4 people while a standard packaged meal feeds maybe 1. The weight increase is minimal and you can often share the load. MONTyBOCA recipes provide better fuel for your treks to compliment the experience. Re cleanup: just a little water in the pot is all you need!

Chef Corzo! Where can I find a Dijon mustard packet? I don’t wanna buy a hundred pack for $20 on Amazon. Do you know any chains that have it. All the chains I have looked at just have regular mustard. Is that okay?
@ChefCorso
@ChefCorso 2 года назад
I've had the best luck at grocery stores in their deli area and airports. If you can't find dijon, any mustard can work.

Out of curiosity how large is the container you use for the black pepper? Also how long are you able to store your veggies while hiking?

hey BR! about 1 TB or so and 4-6 days depending on your trip and trail conditions. Check out my "NO PACKAGED MEALS" video series to see how red peppers and mixed veggies last on a solo trip I did last year. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-r6BCT7tvsOk.html

I’ve been making this repeatedly on my stove for a night trip but one thing I seem to have a hard time figuring out is how to get it to stop sticking to the bottom of the stove. Do I need more water or some oil at the bottom?
@ChefCorso
@ChefCorso 2 года назад
depending on the make up and thickness of your pot, this can get sticky. I would suggest to keep stirring it to loosen the bottom bits and have a medium low heat. There is a lot of starch in this recipe so it does fall to the bottom. A little more water could help.
@kevinalvarez7389
@kevinalvarez7389 2 года назад
@@ChefCorso I’ll try to keep that in mind. It’s the 1L msr windburner. I did attempt it afterwards with a regular stove using a regular pot twice and same thing happened. But I’m new to cooking in general so I’ll have to continue to add water next time

I made this last night for dinner on a trip in Mount Rainier National Park. I followed the recipe nearly to the "t", adding ground mustard instead of a Dijon mustard packet (didn't have one). What I did that put it over the top was add a single serving cup of cream cheese. That added the creaminess that I have been looking for.
@RoughLandings77
@RoughLandings77 2 года назад
Oh, I should add that it was high 20's to low 30's, probably wouldn't be a good idea to try bringing cream cheese in the heat of summer.
