PSA: this video is for fun, not intended to be viewed as if I'm a "professional builder" Building is a hobby of mine and I am no where close to being a professional. I do my best and will show my faults or mention them. Is my way the best, probably not, but it works for me, and if I can do it, so can you! My videos are for those who think they can't DIY or who never picked up a tool before and wanting to start simple. Please be kind.
Hey Everyone!
Hope everyone had a great New Year so far! I'm starting mine off slow and I think that is going to be the theme going forward LOL! I have a ton of projects that I want to do, but I will probably only upload once a month...Maybe twice if I'm feeling froggy.
With that said, here is this months video. I have been needing to do this since we moved in and was one of my first planned projects for the new house. As you see, it took me a year to actually do this project. But I am SOO happy I did it! This was so easy and turned out amazing. I love this project so much that we will be doing something similar for our spare bedroom and the upstairs bathroom that has a messed up wall.
I was going to use pine boards for this project, but the quality of boards I saw where so awful. So, even thought the MDF was a bit more expensive. this project probably cost me about $100 to do. That's with the pre-cut, per-painted MDF and the cost of the paint. So not the cheapest project, but still totally worth it. I used 2, 1x4x8, 3, 1x3x8 and 1, 1x2x8 MDF boards. You can probably buy a sheet of MDF and cut it yourself to save a bit of money. I'll probably do that next time.
I hope you enjoyed this video, if you did, please leave a like and consider subscribing to my channel. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. I hope everyone has a fantastic January and an even better year!
PS: don't forget to hit the bell so you don't miss the next video.

Kudos to you for sharing your project. I have a few ideas I would have handled in another way. 1-unless the wall is very irregular, not a great idea to glue the baseboard to it. 2-before putting battens up, I would decide where that top piece you made was going to go, level it and nail it to the wall, insuring the nails were hitting the studs. 3-then in case the floor wasn’t level, I would measure each place where the battens were going to be sure all of them were the correct length. (Yes, if the baseboard and top board are perfectly parallel, the lengths of the battens will be exactly the same. But that stuff rarely comes out that way in most cases. Last comment to clarify the glue thing-anything that is running horizontally can be nailed into structure (studs) and does not need glue. Not gluing makes it simpler if the baseboard ever needed to be pulled, like maybe by the electrician? However, the battens will not likely be located on top of a stud, so those I agree need to be glued.

Thanks for the input! Everyone has their own way of doing things. For me, this was the easiest. I'm not too worried about using the glue, and if I have to remove it, that's just a road I will cross later. I think it turned out pretty well. I love it, and it still looks good after all this time. If I do this again, I'll take your advice. Especially for the upstairs bathroom I need to do. That wall is jacked, and I definitely need to make sure I secure them to the studs. Thanks again for the advice, and thanks for watching!!

Why does no one actually place a full board on the back of the wall ? only using battens makes it look so unfinished… because you have the same wall surface… orange or whatever your structure on the wall maybe between the gabs of your battens … place plywood on the entire wall than place the battens on that and make it actually look like a full wooden board and batten as it should be … you will be much happier with the outcome

Thanks for the comment 👍 I have to disagree on it looking unfinished. Mine looks great and still does. I can see doing plywood for a larger area that is seen by all. But this is a laundry room, and I did this on a budget. My channel is for first-timers who want to do a quick project. No bells and whistles, just simple. Thank you for commenting again and for the tip. Hopefully, it will help those who want to make it fancy and more complete 🙂
