The wall looks great! Nice job. One thought, though, is that I would go easy on using liquid nails on your wall. Last year I went to remove a large whiteboard at church, only to discover they had used liquid nails to adhere it to the wall. Hours were spent scraping and peeling all of that stuff, then sanding and repairing the damaged drywall. Since the battens aren't structural, tacking with the nails ought to be plenty. The support for a shelf would require nailing into the wall studs.

Hi Rachel! What type of nail gun did you use or does it matter?

I borrowed one from a neighbor so I don't remember exactly which one - the big thing to look for is one that can hold brad nails long enough to get past the wood strips and actually into the wall - from there the nicer guns will let you control depth so the nailhead is flush/in a little bit versus poking out. I may have linked the one i borrowed in the description, but generally any of the ones like ryobi around $100-$150 should work great!
