One of the many things I appreciate about your channel is the way you credit those you learn from and direct us to their content. I always come here first, but I've learned a lot from the other metal shapers you've introduced me to as well. You are building such a great community, and I'm thankful to be included.
Nice Job ! I've spent the better part of my 74 years restoring classic cars and it's nice to see someone that actually takes the time to do those compound curves right. Back in the day I had a "California Kid " clone I build back in the 70's and had to repair the same exact area except on the drivers side . Sadly that was before things like flap discs and roll locks so it was even more time consuming . Plus I still used lead at the time and still do on occasions actually, sadly it's a dying art and few know how to nowadays. I'm just finishing up a 1971 Buick Riviera with only a bit of the interior and seat covers to go after a 4-5 year long hiatus after a serious neck , shoulder and crushed nerve injury that made the project take years longer to do than expected. Luckily it's my own rig and I started with a rust free Fla car I got from the original owner . Unfortunately there wasn't a single panel that wasn't damaged and it took months of blocking to get those ,,Gigantic Swooping panels right. I don't think there is a body line or panel on that car that didn't contain a compound curve and wicked sloppy gaps, all looking good now though . This will likely be my last restoration sense that injury left me pretty messed up to the point my hands barely work and I can't move my neck much without allot of pain. I'm glad to see there's still folks with the passion for this kind of work even though I'm sure you may have asked yourself,,,"How to Hell did I get myself into this mess " ,,,, LOL!!! I sure have before !
I honestly can't say which I like more. I watch and re-watch so many metal shaping videos of yours, but the addition of the DIY tool building blew me away. I'm loving all of it.
I’ll be waiting for the video on the “rainbow caterpillar” TIG welding. Lots of times when I would rather TIG but can’t get at the back to hammer it out. Thanks for the videos!!
Agreed. A lot of guys act like this information just appears to them. I'm self taught for the most part but it takes a ton of research. I've been working on, building, fabricating stuff since I was a kid. 30 years later and still learning.
I enjoy this type of content. It is the type of thing I a doing in the garage. Smallish patch panel on a door. I think my “take away “ is patience. You take the time to do it right. I tend to start of careful and then go cave man. Japhands kustoms teaches patience grasshopper 👍
WOW, what a knowledgeable craftsman you are. Very informative and inspirational video. Thank you. If I wasn't so old and worn out I'd finish restoring the 66 Chevy II I have in my garage on a rotisserie!! Keep the great videos coming (that's why I subscribed), thank you again.
Excellent video. Thanks for all your how to's. Quick and easy way to make those dams to prevent the Bondo from running is using kids Play-Doh. Just keep couple of cans around the shop. You can reuse them. Keep up the great work.
I like the fixing and "making tools to do the job" aspect of the channel. Your recording, both audio and video, is generally pretty good. I also enjoy the art/design side of your builds, but the repairing has more attraction for me at this time.
I love the tutorials and these tool builds that are accessible to anyone just starting out. I'm getting my first welder for my birthday in a few weeks so I can start metal working. All the project builds are great too. I always learn something.
Ever try a profile comb…. Just push it over the shape and needles slide and lock into place. Then lay it over cardboard and mark the shape.. seems a lot easier.
Received my (waiting for name) profiling tool and am in the process of putting it together. Ordered the DIY shrinking dies this morning (2 sets for the stuff up factor!) Thanks for your show and inspiration!👏👏👏👏👏
I really enjoy watching your videos. I find that your teachings are geared just right, especially for me. I feel that most everything you show us is very doable, even by a novice like myself. I'm working on a 37 Pontiac and I feel more capable of doing what's needed from watching your work. A big thank you for sharing your talent!
Dude, what a great video. You make it look so easy. A true craftsman for sure. I'm enjoying your channel so much. I love the videos of doing the builds but the tool making and techniques are so helpful and educational. The hammer jammer is awesome.
Very cool Video showing what your hammer can do! So used to your TIG welding the MIG is welcome to see being used to make a complex repair seem simple!
I know getting work on the cars is important but I'm enjoying the tool ideas, who woulda thought about making a pulmax with an air hammer, I mean come on, how cool is that
You can also use plasticine for the walls instead of cardboard. If you then dab on the first layer of Bondo with a brush, you will get little to no air bubbles.
Just a little tip with the bondo… you can mix in fiberglass resin in the bondo to change the consistency. Not only will it give you a sharper or more crisp profile but it will also reduce the chances for air bubbles. Thanks for the content. Just wanted to share this little tip.
some of the best content on my subs list. im here for the learning from guys like yourself. youtube university. i follow plenty of fun creators but i appreciate the channels like yours, giving back to the community that follow you, the years of experience to help inform and inspire us all to become better craftsmen. cheers from downunder
Love your shop Karl, I am also in the trade, mostly doing rersto,s, for the past 25 years in New Zealand. until just in the last few years I never used weld thru primers, but now I only prefer to use copper weld thru primer, because it can handle the heat way way better, than zinc, or galv, keep up the great work, love you're show, p,s, used to love working with 19 guauge, but bloody to hard to get over here too. Ken.
Can’t lie I love the tools and cars can’t choose just love it all even just general work is awesome I’m uk based and really want to get to do all of this such a cool art
Love the tool making. And I love this type of content. You are an awesome teacher Karl. Kudos brother. Keep this sort of stuff coming. Hammer Jammer name is cool but "Karl's Bench top Profiler" could be a good option.
Beautiful job! Would like to see you repair the cowl vent as that is a common problem with old cars! I enjoy all your videos so just keep them coming! Looking forward to you and Brent working on the ramp truck! Take care.
I like all your content , the metal working on cars is probably my favorite too but seeing you make the tools is also great. I copy some of your tools (and buy some) . I really enjoy your channel and look forward to new videos!
Unbelievable fabrication Karl. You amaze me with what you’re able to do with metal fabrication. Just are so good! Thanks for sharing your skills! ❤️💯👍👊
Stunning! Love the versatility of the machine and your explanation/tutorial of how to make it work! Looks like the minibike collection is growing! Go Japhands, keep moving forward!
Hey Karl. You asked for comments about this content. I love it! Cars or tools, it’s great to see. I’m restoring Grandpas ‘49 Suburban here in Washington just south of you. Really beautiful job on the repairs in this video. Nice camera work Elio! (sp)
i look forward to every episode im going to be making some of your tools once it gets warm enough to be out in the garage , ive learned alot from you its making it easier to go out and cutup my gto to finish the bodywork and the build dad and i started before his passing thank you fpr the passing on of knowledge
When making a form like that you can add fiberglass resin to the bondo to make it a bit thinner, or two part finishing Putty which we typically call Icing!
Love your content, really like your way of explaining, and you are enthusiastic without being too much. It seems like you have great confidence and pride in your work. I really like your hand shaping/rust repair and home made tool videos, I've learned so much from just watching you. Keep on keeping on and keep being you 👍
The copper weld thru primer welds so much nicer. I made the switch from the grey zinc stuff to the upol copper. It's a night and day difference. No spatter or toxic gas smell, welds smoother, and the end product is always a lot better. And I like the smell of it lol
