In this step by step video tutorial Vanessa, TheCrafty Gemini, will teach you how to make a boxy zipper pouch that is fully lined and has no raw seams inside! The technique I show you in this video is what I consider to be the easiest way to make a lined boxy zipper pouch. If you are a beginner and follow along with each step you can make this zipper pouch, too!
The finished pouch measures approximately 7.5" x 5" x 3". A great size for storing many smaller items. It also includes two loops for carrying and holding onto when opening or closing the pouch.
This project is beginner friendly and I share lots of tips and tricks throughout so be sure to watch the whole video!

Love your video. I am so disappointed when a project has raw seams so I really appreciate this project. Don’t ever change your presentation. It’s great that your are direct and get right to the project. Your camera angles are perfect clearly showing every step in the project and I especially appreciate how you also specify your stitch length and width and the needle size you are using with camera clearly showing this displayed on your machine. No one else does this. This is huge for me as I am learning how to sew through videos like this and it’s a big help! Thank you!

If you don't have a store bought clapper, borrow any scrap of wood from your husband's wood bin and you have a clapper! Mine is 1x4x10" piece of pine. Don't finish it...the whole purpose of a clapper is the wood absorbs any moisture from the fabric (and steam from the iron) and sets a nice firm crease. 💖🌞🌵😷

Wow! I’ve made these bags for years but have always done the square corner cut outs during construction of the bag. It is fussy and frustrating! Your way of leaving that triangle of fabric for the boxy corners is awesome. It likely helps the bag to stay in the box shape and does not hurt the appearance in any way. Thank you for a better way! Your style of teaching is refreshing and so beneficial to all of us sewers of various skill levels! Pure appreciation from me!!❤❤

You are an excellent teacher! I wish you could tutor me through my projects. A pouch is such a basic and pretty simple project with to have one that looks professional takes knowing the tricks and the care and precision you show us in this video. The visuals are excellent. I appreciate that they are slower for the first time and you explain why it is necessary to do the step as demonstrated. Then the repeated sides or corner go faster. Excellent. Probably best sewing video I’ve seen.

I've always boxed mine during construction, which means 8 corners to box. I like this method, it's easier and faster, and the triangles add stability. I would try tacking them down to the liner so they don't flop. Love the tabs tip to reduce bulk. Also good tip re quilting fabric. Excellent tutorial!

Love love love 💕 ❤ your video! Clear, concise instructions end an easier method than other videos I’ve watched. I’m going to add an extra step: machine embroidering a name along the zipper edge, a couple inches away from the zipper. I’ll make 4 - one for each grandchild - using various fabrics I have in my stash. Inside I’ll put a toothbrush, holder, washcloth, and other toiletries so that they will have a travel bag for the camper. I can’t wait to see how this turns out! Many thanks!!!

I have done a few of these box bags. I did a lot with 8 corners. 4 on outer and 4 on lining. After watching this fantastic video I have trialed and using 4 French seams for the corners, starting on the outside. I thought that was what you were about to do after pressing the outside before constructing the corners so I can't take credit. It made for a sturdy seam that added structure to the finished bag without bulk. I nearly always come back to your videos as they are clear, informative and have so many practical hints and tips. Thank you

Wasn't looking today for another box bag video but clicked on this via the line up on the side and OMGosh this is THE BEST ever tutorial. I've been obsessed for years about clean no seam showing techniques. I have made up a few of my own on the fly too. I tend to not sew via patterns but see something I like and make it or just make it up as I go along with an clear or not so clear idea of the end product. I love this style of bag. I had a longer one gifted to me as a teen and it was the most useful bag ever. One day my bother taking swimming at the college we both attended decided to help himself to my bag and when I learned he'd taken it with my mothers approval I had a pissy fit. I said EVEN I KNOW BETTER than to take a decent bag to the College Gym and they have huge signs up everywhere telling you to use paper grocery bags or the like due to thefts going on that in the 70's there were no spy cameras to catch a thief or two. So I heeded the advise and used a paper bag no problem. Will according to my brother and my mother he couldn't possibly be caught using a dowdy paper bag. Sure enough the following class the bag along with HIS wallet, watch, and shirt were stolen and totally gone when he got out. The good news he had his pants but not his underwear. And he had to face my wrath. Mind you how it looked to me when both my Mom and brother lined up to tell me A THIEF at the GYM stole MY BAG. I said really isn't that beat all so buy me a new bag. That never happened. Since I had been sewing since I was 12 I knew the only way I would ever see another similar bag was to design one for myself. The original was vinyl a very lovely type for the mid 60's. Anyway over the years I leaned towards linings and preference about hidden seams. I just loved how well this was delivered and shown and flowed along. Top stars for you and beyond. I have a lot of marine vinyl on hand and planned to make a few bags up for our next small family reunion where it contains hand warmers, a few first aid items, recharge small flash light, personal fan, small button soap, hand sanitizer, add water and voila a wash rag and or small towel, folding scissors, small note pad, small pack of sticky notes, pen that's also a ruler, USB 18W charger adapter. Etc. etc. You get the idea. And yes I have most of these items including the 10,000 mAh power bank and the handwarmer is also a 5700 power bank too. I've been leaning towards this style of bag but have flipped back and forth between this classic one zipper style or the two zipper larger opening style. I really think since I have to make so many I'm leaning towards just making this one adding 2 inches wider and 1-2 inches taller and 3-4 inches longer. I have friends who will take any of my trial bags happily until I am happy with the size. Also I do plan to add a pocket inside and a metal D ring to both ends where the fabric tab or loops are. That will allow a strap to carry or help manage and hang the bag if one chooses. I love options myself so always expect others do too. Of course everyone gets their favorite colors. Yellow and red and grey and blue and green. Everyone seems to favor one color or another. But we live in NW MT and family love to come in a group & sometimes it's hot other times cold and that can be the same day. Also they love to meet us at places like the Pacific Ocean or Yellowstone Park not just our NW MT home. So I'm also searching for light weight but decent rain jackets and hats too. I am thinking I'll make my own hat. I was gifted an adorable green slicker bucket style hat as a rain hat. It is light weight and rolls up small. I think some where I've seen a pattern here on RU-vid to make a bucket hat and it was easier than this bag. So if I can find some light weight ripstop coated and a lovely cotton lining in pretty colors to fit everyone that would be an extra special addition to the be prepared tackle box. It's late tonight so I've book marked your site to return tomorrow and check out your other videos. Thank you for sharing this one. Love it, love it, love it.

Hi there! I made one of these bags!! Your tutorial was absolutely PERFECT. My hubby said it was the most beautiful bag he's seen me make, he was impressed by how the details were perfectly done, it took me a couple hours, but each time I know it will get faster! Thank you so much!

Finally, someone who doesn’t chop off the ears. I like to leave them as much as possible, they add strength in many applications. Very well done tutorial.

Just finished making one of these. To be honest, I wasn't sure about the corners, but having made it, I'm sold. Just like Vanessa said, you don't even notice them. Thank you for a great (as always) tutorial. More in the wind for me I know!

This was such a great video, thank you. No annoying music distracting me. Clear, concise instruction. Helpful tips and only talking about the topic. A friend lent me his BP machine which came in a plastic, zippered carrying case. The zipper died yesterday and I didn’t want to give it back broken, so thanks to you I’m making him a colourful cotton case. Nice way to thank him for the loan. And guess what! My blood pressure stayed normal the whole time so terrific was your teaching, 🌈🦘
