THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for this video! I had bought this exact pen for my ducks and it was driving me mad trying to figure out a way to make it mobile, nothing I tried worked. I was about to give up until I found this video! I really appreciate how detailed and well explained everything was. Can't wait to try it, my ducks will be so happy!

If you do decide you want four wheels that's fine. If you are going straight just pull/push it. If you are turning just pick up one end. The nice thing about this is you can steer from either end!

Move it before they eat half the grass. Then its not hurting the grass and its recovery is much better and faster. You might need to seed that spot so weeds not take over

Nice job! My coop is bigger and heavier so I went with 4 wheels. If you have trouble keeping pneumatic tires at the correct pressure, you might want to put Slime protectant in them. Every tire on the farm has them (not cars). I love that dog, always working!

Get axle sized bolts to save cost is a possible option. Also, nylock nuts will eliminate all of those lock washers. With constant rotation, those lock washers are subject to failure.
@CountryLivingExperience
@CountryLivingExperience 2 года назад
Axle sized bolts would not work because the pipe is too small in diameter. There would not be enough strength in the pipe material to support the tractor.

I’ve been using really ancient technology by using a galvanized steel fence post to roll it around the yard but like approach much better. What did you do with the bar spot? Did you reseed with grass seed or did you let it come back naturally? Turn it into a garden?

We plan on making a few chicken tractors using this coop and the modifications you’ve done. Wondering if you ever add additional tarps to protect from the weather. I’m worried about wind blowing it over if we add any more tarps and it isn’t staked down. We are in Indiana, so plan would be to add nearly full coverage of tarps for winter weather, put deep bedding in the coop and stake it down to be stationary in the winter. Also trying to think of other ways to protect from predators since we will be moving the tractor every day for our broilers and moving a fence along with that doesn’t seem fun. We will have an electric fence for our layers and let them out of the coop to pasture but man, it’s a pain to move the fence. In summary (haha) - thoughts on wind/tarps if not staked down? And any other suggestions for predators?
@CountryLivingExperience
@CountryLivingExperience Год назад
Awesome. The only thing it would change is from the wood lever to square metal tube. The wood rotted out too fast. I did end up putting more tarps. This model of coop was heavy enough to withstand out winds here but maybe not in other places. You are right, those fences are a pain to move. I don't have any other predator solutions.

That pacing dog in the background makes me nervous. They have to be the most nervous dog breed that I've ever seen. @@CountryLivingExperience Yes, thanks for reminding me of the breeds name. I've seen these dogs here +there, but I gotta say, "I'd never want to own one, simply because they act so nervously obsessed. Perhaps it's due to the fact that their hyperactivity triggers my own probable OCD. LOL ; I'm trying to stay calm, but I actually feel nervous for the poor dogs. I guess I've always been too sensitive to the apparent discomfort that I pick up from those around me, particularly animals. If I were there , I'd be trying to pet the dog until he calmed down + chilled out. I just can't relax myself when I feel that those around, especially animals are on edge. I've been catering to some very uptight Narcissists all my life of 67+yrs , + sorry to say, they don't even tense me up like the pacing of animals like this breed of super intense canine. If I had to be in the presence of anyone or thing that nervous acting for any length of time, I'd have to be on meds for hypertension. I feel his stress, + it becomes my own...I may be a way worse bundle of nerves than he is. Sorry if my comment made anyone stressed out. Some of us are just wired with thinner metal, I guess.😬
