As a player with Lich's mastery in their main deck along with a Vito + exquisite blood pair, reading the first part of Sheoldred I knew where this was going
It makes a card bad in commander free, offsetting the 1/40 of your life total you lose to it every turn. With sheoldred, Greed is now 3b for 1 mana draw a card which is $.30 vs phyrexian arena which is 1 card per turn max and $10
Queza, Augur of Agonies beats it in this regard imo, it’s a card from SNC that says “Whenever you draw a card, target opponent loses 1 life and you gain 1 life.”. This both makes phyrex arena free plus one damage, but also makes cards like peer into the abyss and yawgmoths bargain on yourself totally free and result in huge damage to your opponent. Queza is my personal favorite commander and I’ll probably add Sheoldred to my deck with her
@@Beefjerkey12345 its called pointing out other options with many cards people already tend to put in mono black decks that also go infinite. Phyrexian Arena isn't the card that makes this "Insane" but it's a great card to help other people who aren't very familiar with Magic yet that there's many uses for the commander that take advantage of cards you wouldn't necessarily think about sometimes.
you seen to have forgotten that most games of magic , last only till turn six . you're trying something that will only happen in once in ten games. nice try though. remember it's not what you can do, it's what the opponent lets you play.
Try her with villis broker of blood and krrik son of yawgmoth, pay life to kill creatures, paying life draws you cards which gains you life! GGS from there!
Try giving an opponent Vilis under Sheoldred! In their draw step, they draw a card. Sheoldred makes them lose two life. Vilis draws them two cards. Sheoldred makes them lose four life. Soon, they'll either mill out or lose all their life.
What's the point? All you see in Explorer are Transmogrify, Greasefang, Angels, Mono Red, Cat & Oven and Teferi. Good luck when you get hit with Parhelion on turn 3 or Ulamog shows up on turn 3. Arena is completely unplayable now. Historic has just Muxus or Elves winning on turn 4 or Dualcaster Mage winning on turn 3.
Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose or Sanguine Bond are also invaluable here. For those who don’t know, they make a select opponent lose life equal to the life you gain, which is better that “lose 1 whenever you gain.”
Gain two life per card drawn is crazy With black having pained card draw this makes infinite card draw much better She would be great in a Nekuzar shell with group hug card draw
I can do something easier: Cut your losses: Target opponent mills half their library. Eldritch pact: Target player draws X cards and loses X life where X is the number cards in their graveyard. Or if you wanna be particularly nasty: Playset of Augur of Agonies. Each time you draw a card, You gain 6 life, your opponent loses 4 life.
I use Villis, Broker of Blood with her in a K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth & Shadowborn Apostles deck. Cast a black spell, prefereably a 1 drop like an Apostle) with 2 life each instead of the black mana, Vilis causes me to draw cards equal to the life paid, and then gain twice that much life from Sheoldred. If I also use Blood Celebrant, I can effectively pay three life for 1 mana of any color, yielding me three cards and a net gain of 3 life per mana. So I can cast any card "for free" by instead risking decking myself in increments of 2 or 3 cards, and gaining a ton of life in the process. Not truly infinite, but it pretty much never fails to win the game same. It's effectively the really weird black mana version of Enter the Infinite with Omniscience. If i can get K'rrik in play turn 1, Apostles can therotically fetch Villis into play also on turn 1, but pretty reliably on turn 2 or 3. If i use his activated ability to draw into with a drop tutor spell and a fast mana rocks or two like sol ring or mana crypt i can potentially play Shroldred on the same or next turn, making that deck arguably my best deck and easily competitive for teir 9 or 10 CEDH. I can and have pulled off a OTK with it, and games rarely lasts beyond turn 5 with it, one way or the other, it either drains my life to nothing and gets me killed, or I win before anyone can do anything except play Force of Will or another 0 or 1 drop counterspell, which is generally the only way to stall long enough for even perfectly high tier decks to get on thier feet.
if you don't have a vito effect on the board, if you draw your entire deck, sickening dreams (1B, sorcery, discard x cards, deal x damage to each creature and player) ends the game just as well. the lifegain from sheoldred negates the damage it will do to yourself.
the second combo doesn't work if they are a life gain deck and have enough life... for example 200 life and 60 leave them with a life total of 40. which means they are still in the game now with 40 life and 30+ cards in hand and 30 cards in their library
lich’s mastery and sheoldred to draw you whole deck and have gerrard's Hourglass Pendant out tap sacrifice for four colorless to return all lands, creatures, artfacts, and enchantments to play tapped.
Also draw your entire Deck with with Lichs Mastery and then discard your entire hand with Sickening Dreams to oneshot everyone (you stay alive due to gaining life from drawing the cards.)
Such a crazy card. Am I the only one who feels like these strats aren't really skill or tactics based. Whenever I play my buddy. It's not really fun and the few times he wins. Noone at the table feels like he actually won.
Peer into the abyss is an absolutely stupid card. I got 4 from a challenger deck box and have placed them into a few commander decks that absolutely make the most of them. Its always funny to watch someone go wide eyed from getting hit with it
As cool as it is, I don't like infinite combos that just win games....this is why I hate the exquisite blood and sanguine bond combo. I have lost to it and it wasn't fun at all.
its more exciting than punching your opponent in the face with creatures over and over again which is the standard wincon. So id say its above average.
How would you not lose to decking out? Neither ability is optional, and so when you draw the last card, you're forced to gain 2 life, and are then forced to attempt to draw 2 cards from your empty deck
Maybe not legal, but my favorite so far is Griselbrand, Sheoldred, and one of the self-mill Jaces. Griselbrand becomes: "Pay 7 life, draw 7 cards, gain 14 life" and I laugh.
So why can't I just use Nefarious Lich for the combo? It's cheaper mana cost. I may lose the game but if you're going for this combo in the first place you're already expecting a win.
