In this video I take you to Marmion Farm, fought over and liberated by the allied soldiers of the 101st Airborne division and the 82nd airborne division. This location has become famous in recent years due to its association with many members of the famed Easy Company 506th PIR who landed near by and saw their first combat here.
In the spring of 1944, the village of Ravenoville was occupied by the 4th company of the Oberleutnant Werner belonging to the Grenadier-Regiment 919 (709 Infantry Division). The commune is situated to the north of the head of the bridge that the Allies want to install in the Cotentin on D-Day.
The Marmion Farm is located at the crossroads to the south east of Ravenoville. The farm complex was the "makeshift rendezvous point" for troopers that were mis-dropped in the area. A news reel was shot here and it was the first images of US paratroopers in WW2 to be shown back in America. Famous photographs were taken here including the ones taken by Forrest Guth and the one of James Flanagan holding the captured German flag.
