In this video I take you to Marmion Farm, fought over and liberated by the allied soldiers of the 101st Airborne division and the 82nd airborne division. This location has become famous in recent years due to its association with many members of the famed Easy Company 506th PIR who landed near by and saw their first combat here.
In the spring of 1944, the village of Ravenoville was occupied by the 4th company of the Oberleutnant Werner belonging to the Grenadier-Regiment 919 (709 Infantry Division). The commune is situated to the north of the head of the bridge that the Allies want to install in the Cotentin on D-Day.
The Marmion Farm is located at the crossroads to the south east of Ravenoville. The farm complex was the "makeshift rendezvous point" for troopers that were mis-dropped in the area. A news reel was shot here and it was the first images of US paratroopers in WW2 to be shown back in America. Famous photographs were taken here including the ones taken by Forrest Guth and the one of James Flanagan holding the captured German flag.

If you’re wondering why the swastika was blurred it’s because YT restricted the original upload. In some countries that symbol is illegal. Therefore I blurred it so I can share the video with you. Frustrating but that’s the world we live in

Loved this video... thank you for taking us back to a time which meant so much to us all. My Dad was British and served under Gen. Montgomery in the 8th Army in Egypt at El Alamein and Tobruk. All of these men are heroes and what they did gave us the wonderful free lives we enjoy today. These videos of then and now help us to picture what they endured for all of our sakes... I will always remember them all and be thankful... I think of my Dad so much and miss him even more when I watch these videos. Thanks so much for giving us poignant memories of a time long ago which means so much to us all...

Walking with ghosts. The sense of the movement through time and space and that one is still in that river. I was at a Bronze Age dig site (visiting, not digging) and I tried to envision those ghosts, still there, in their time...living, the energies of the Past still not quite dissipated. There once walls stood, pathways led you to place to place, lives lived there, complete lives, birth to death and all the experiences one has along the way. I love watching these before and after as it succeeds to a degree in being able to actually feel the breath of those that once walked by.

From the first image, framed in sunlight streaming on the gallant men of WWII, these images maintain their gravitas and power, allowing me to tangentially experience what the brave men of character, The Greatest Generation, endured to secure freedom throughout the world. There isn’t a day I am not filled with gratitude for their courage and sacrifice. Thank you, History Explorer.

I told my son, I wish you would have got to know him, I know he loves you. We have a few home movies from family reunions. Daddy could get crazy with the best of them he needed too. From when dark 🌑 forces fell upon this pleasant land to forces of good that liberation and freedom came back again from the brave 101st and 82 eventually brought back the light after full on battle as the winds of time settle you might here a shout a bank or something catches your eye D.day the beginning of freedom for all of Europe 🌍 respect 🤝🙏 brilliant work
