I made this, longer, because I’m fatter, wider because I’m tall, & I haven’t had it off my back since! It’s my absolute favourite wrap & I have had so many compliments on it, too.
I can never figure out how to adjust a pattern for me because I'm 6 ft tall. I would ask how many rows you added but this was 2 years ago when you made the comment!
I have had some issues keeping my count straight and discovered, when I do the first of the two SC rows, I am skipping the stitch at the top of a lot of the HDC because it is so close to the skipped space! Now that I've discovered that, I'm sailing along...although I have to say "post, space, post, space" with every stitch across the first SC row each time so I don't skip one 😂. I bought some beautiful Maypole DK yarn in color Fun Slide yesterday and discovered this pattern today, and it is a perfect fit! Thank you for always posting such fun and gorgeous patterns! 😊👍
Easy shawl!!! Says you!! This will be my fourth try. I have meticulously counted stitches and placed stitch markers. I prefer a rectangular shawl, so I absolutely must get it right this time.
@TheWirdbird I'm in the same boat... I have frogged this project three times and I'm going to give it another try. I've done the same as you with stitch markers and counting, but something glitches up every couple of rows! Best of luck on your fourth try! 💜
@@ZainaDancer After many, many tries, I discovered that the multiple is 16 + 18. Now I am on my way, and have made several shawls for family members, and I am now working on a giant blanket for my cousin.
@@TheWirdbird WOW! Well done you! I've actually made my fourth start today, and so far so good. You are my inspiration to get this done... Thank you for responding! 🧶
@@TheWirdbird LOL.... I have actually been thinking of you! I literally frogged the project three more times, and on the seventh try I had success because I stopped counting! I counted the first two rows only, and then just began making sure the pattern matched up as I crocheted along. I am working tirelessly and sometimes I feel like Madame Defarge from Charles Dickens' Tale of Two Cities (only with crochet instead of knitting)... I am 2/3 of the way done, working on it little by little every day. 💜🧶
I have to be honest with you, I was smitten with this project from the moment I saw it. I've watched the video a few times, printed out the pattern, started it six times, and frogged it six times! I have started for the 7th time, LOL, and I'm now halfway finished. My trick was to stop counting!! I counted the stitches for rows 1 and 2 only then used the stitch pattern itself to match up the design as I went along and it's coming out so beautifully! I'm a very experienced crocheter, and this pattern almost got the best of me, but it didn't!💜
This shawl is beautiful and will be given as gifts to all my friends. I purchased the PDF on Etsy before I realized it was available for free but I regret nothing, it’s totally worth it ☺️ thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much!!! I made a scarf instead in a fig color super neutral and my son loves it and he is very super picky. I left out the shells on the end and put "tassels" fringes whatever you call it. Thank you so much for sharing this pattern with us!!!
I'm preparing to start working this beautiful wrap and checked the video for helpful hints. I noted that the LionBrand Mandela Tweed Stripes I've just purchased has only 426 yards and not the 568 yards Sarah's cake has. I've seen this with other yarns. Cake/skein size can vary with the colorway offered and it seems that my cakes, acquired in 2022, have less yarn. Purchased PDF on Etsy in support of all that Sarah shares. Many thanks.
I made this shawl using the Lion Brand Ferris Wheel in Evergreen, and it turned out gorgeous! Thank you for the pattern! (written and the tutorial) ^_^
I love this! I am using malbrigo yarn in arroyo and a tighter hook and am just going to adjust the numbers a bit. Hopefully it turns out half as nice as yours.
I would just like to say Hello from the UK and thank you for your excellent, well filmed and easy to understand videos. I am a keen knitter and weaver, but have never tried crochet and you have inspired me to have a go. Really like your inventive stitches and for making it look so easy. You have yourself a new fan :~)!
I have wanted to do this shawl for quite a while. I really like the soothing pattern and the collection of comforting colors. I hope you are able to fill this request.
I made a shawl with this exact yarn, different color, and it does feel like cotton and it is very very nice. I saw this pattern on one of the podcasters and it was gorgeous so I wasn't that surprised when I saw your name. I'm going to start it now. I have to find the right cakes. Not sure what I have...!!! Warmest my friend. will let you know how it goes. Jackie
If I wanted to turn this pattern into a blanket, would I chain a multiple of 16 +2? That's what my math came out to, but I just wanna make sure. Gorgeous stitch! I love your channel, and my yarn stash has actually seen regular use since I found it.
Hi! I’m using a #3 yarn and I would like to add additional stitches to match size. Any guidance? Do I need to work in multiples like other patterns? Thank you for your love very pattern and tutorial.
I am so loving making this gorgeous shawl!! Thank you so much for creating such a beauty!! 😍🧶 I am however short one sc on the first row of sc’s....every time! I spend so much time counting and searching and can never find what I missed. You by any chance wouldn’t know a basic, simple and obvious reason why I am doing this? 🤔🤣💜💜
You probably already figured this out but just in case any one else has this problem, you might be counting the chain on your hook as a stitch (starting this one less on the foundation chain) or starting your first single crochet one stitch too far into the foundation chain. Hope this helps , good luck.
I am having the same problem. It seems 1 sc too short. Each wave is 16 stitches x 14 of them = 224 and then there is a beginning and ending sc, which should be 226?
I LOVE THIS SHAWL and have been trying to purchase the pattern from your Etsy shop for the past hour, but it won't let me complete the sale. HELP! Thanks!
Uh oh! Was getting really worried about not having enough yarn as I near the end of my shawl. But because you said it shouldn’t take 2 full cakes I thought I shouldn’t panic… But I’ve now discovered that Mandala Tweed (as of late ‘22) is only 426yd per cake rather than the 568yd cakes you had when you did the pattern. Gulp… It took weeks to get the first 2 shipped over from Canada, now I have to pray a third can arrive in time for finishing it by Christmas. 🥺 [I am absolutely NOT BLAMING YOU!! Who woulda thunk they would make the cakes smaller?!]
Oh poop! It’s been discontinued on the Lion website, none on Amazon or Etsy… 😮 UPDATE: turns out the Red Heart Roll with it Melange in Theatre that I have is a close enough match for the edging. Phew!
Definitely will be adding this pattern to my library, thank you so much for sharing this with us! Just ordered some Mandela Mill Ends from Lionbrand. So, this pattern will come in handy!
Hi, I've made a start but I have a question : in row 4 you need to sc in each st and ch-1 space across. That means that you need to have 225 st, right ?
Beautiful! i have a question please. As I have yarns to use up how how many rows would I do in each colour and where would I join in the next colour? Thanks so much for your help
I would like to adapt this pattern to use DK weight 3 yarn instead of worsted weight. Is there a multiple of so many stitches + ? To change the number of foundation stitches. Thank you so much for the wonderful patterns. This will be my 4th project. ❤
Hi there! Thank you for offering this lovely shawl; I love it and am going to make it but want mine to be closer to 70”. Would you please give me the multiples? Thanks! 🥰
At 11:34 it looks like your half double crochet is a regular double crochet. I’m confused. Did anyone else notice this? I love this design! So beautiful.
I checked. It does look a bit like a double crochet, but she's just pausing after pulling through the first loop. Then she pulls through the remaining two loops making it a half double crochet.
Beautiful! I have 981 yds of Patons Silk and Bamboo yarn. Label says #3medium wt. 3 skeins of Orchid, 2 Almond, 2 Blush and 2 Ivory. What hook could I use and is this enough yardage for this wrap? Want to make it as a gift. Would so appreciate a reply.
BUMMER....I bought 2 cakes in March 2020 here in N Florida and there were only (((((426)))) yds to a cake instead of your 568 yds I must find another cake. Am sure looking forward to wearing it next winter as my pseudo coat. Thank you
I was wondering because I accidentally bought the wrong product. It’s still the same brand and it’s Mandela but not Mandela Tweed and the weight is three instead of four, is that a big deal? Can I still do the pattern with a lighter weight yarn?
Hi, I'm just a beginner but I love the look of this so much so I am going to try it out anyway ;-). I've watched the tutorial and translated the written pattern. Hopefully this will work out. Thanks for sharing this pattern and I've also subscribed to your channel ;-)
Hi everybody I am confused and need help. The written pattern said in “Row 4 chain1,turn. Sc in BL of same st;sc bl of each st across. I didn’t see this be mentioned when dhe gi es the direction. Did I missed it ? Should I follow the written pattern or not?
This is my first time watching your tutorial, and did so by seeing this beautiful rectangular shawl. I subscribed and thank you so much for the free pattern!
I’m using a K hook because of the ripplely yarn I’m using. I’ve crocheted the beginning chain, but it’s so long! Id like to shorten it, but don’t know what the count should be . Can you tell mr the “multiples,” please?
I am wanting to do this stitch in a cardigan. I have a yarn that kind of reminds me of a river. Can you tell me the stitch Multiple on this stitch please?
Veronika Reniers yay! I’m glad you love it! Feel free to head over to the Rich Textures Crochet Community group on Facebook if you’d like to share photos, or tag me on Instagram :)
You need to check your written pattern. It does not instruct a chain in between the two single crochets. I was very frustrated to not have the first 2 wave rows nest intoneachnothers curves and pulled them back and started again a number of times. Then, I watched this video, and saw that there *is* a chain between the single crochets and added one in between the single crochets and the first wave row miraculously finished right on the mark with the correct stitch sequence as the end. I am about to continue now with the second wave row with my fingers crossed that they will fit in to oneanother and i will end with the correct stitch combo. And hopefully the rest of this project will progress trouble free and I will get the waves nestling nicely into each others curves. Cheers D
@@susanservin1949 Lucky penny is very hard to find currently but Lion is well known for having major variation in some colorways. I have 5 skiens of tweed and two of them look one way and the other three look different (same dye lot).
When I was first starting off I would count every stitch in every row to always make sure I had the same number. At times I would mark the middle stitch, or on a larger piece even every 10 - 20 stitches with a stitch marker. As you go it definitely gets easier and you find you don’t have to think as much :)
@@ninapap8847 Hi Nina - It's multiples of 16 according to Sarah so if you want to make it longer or shorter, it's in sets of 16. If you want it her length, then it's 226 unless you do a foundation sc chain in which case it's 225 as I understand it. I want to make mine longer so I will so 225 (foundation chain) and then 16 + 16 + 16 until I have the length I want. That's how I understand it.
Thank you i just love this pattern but i have thinnercyarn that calls for hook size 3, so i am gonna have to make it longer 😊now i think i will be able to do it
I tried to read at the label but I couldn’t see how much yarn there is in a kake. 200g??? I live in Sweden so yards is like chinese to me. 😀😄😃 Your hook seems to be very good, is it wooden? Forgive me for all the questions, if You are very busy You don’t have to answer, I Will manage somehow. I have watched so many tutorials here on RU-vid that I almost have forgotten the swedish words in crochet patterns!!! /Lisbeth from Sweden 🇸🇪
Hello from Canada! Each cake has 568 yards. My crochet hook is a wooden Furls Streamline hook in Ebony :) I don’t mind the questions at all! And thank you so much for watching :)
You can, the difference would be that it is a little smaller. You can adjust the length though by starting with a foundation chain that has a multiple of 16 stitches plus 2. I haven’t done the calculations, but it may mean that you also need a bit more yarn to get the same dimensions :)
