Note: When you first set a camera up using Ctrl+Alt+[number], you have to hit F to go back to the pilot view. But after you have it set up, you just hit the number to look at the view and then hit the same number to go back to the pilot view.

1) As well as the F key, you can also set up a button on your yoke to return to the pilot view. 2) You can adjust the Pilot view and Save it using the "Set default cockpit view" function. 3) All the custom views are "aircraft specific" so you can adjust them to suit different planes. 4) There is a config file for each plane. So you can "back up" your view settings if you want to. 5) You can also copy any config file, rename it, and replace an existing config file. That can sometimes save going through the whole process if you want to use similar views for another plane. (Need to exit that plane and reopen for the new config to apply).

@@alanbeasy1775 Those are all fantastic ideas! It's good to hear how other people do things. And I don't profess to be an expert at this or anything else really, I just like tooling around trying to figure things out and making them as easy as can be. Thanks for sharing this, Alan!

I can load and save custom views a tried assigning those to ‘load next custom view’ and ‘load previous custom view’ to a toggle switch on my joystick. Unfortunately I just can’t get it to work.😢 i can do a single custom view.
@alanbeasy1775
@alanbeasy1775 3 месяца назад
@@tomas5577 I suppose "load next custom view" should work from a button on your joy stick. But I have never found that function useful. I prefer to go exactly where I want without toggling through the different views. I just have one button on the joystick assigned to return to the "Default vfr pilot view" to make it quick in an emergency. 0-9 gives you 10 custom views in addition to the "Default VFR pilot view".

@@IslandSimPilot Glad you like "fooling around" - taking a few risks helps others. By the way, now that you have cleared the "Alt + [num]" for "load custom view" you can reassign "Alt + [num]" to "save custom view"...... makes it easier than having to press "Ctrl + Alt + [num]". 😁

Thank you @IslandSimPilot. I've done something similar, but your clear, measured and articulate explanations are so helpful, I'm going back to my setup and simplifying it. Love all your videos!

I use this way of camera handling for a long time. Instead of using the upper numeric keys I use the numpad keys. The assignment is exactly as in the video. In the sim you have to map the numpad keys. Works perfect.

FYI, if you have a 2 seat fighter aircraft with the pilot in front and a weapon system operator (WSO) or radar intercept operator (RIO) behind the pilot there is a keyboard mapping for "View Copilot". It took me a while to figure this out and I now have it mapped on my joystick. 😉

3:41 "So there's really only 10 keys or 10 movements". Yes, and all 5 of these can be assigned to axis instead of to keys or buttons. And I use an old CH quad that I had lying around from the old days which has 6 axis throttle levers. I assigned 5 of those levers for these movements. For instance move one lever forward or backward slides the view left or right. Thus 5 levers controls all 10 movements. As for the other lever, I made that my true zoom lever (instead of move camera forward/backward). I removed the zoom function off of the mouse wheel to keep it from zooming when I wanted to use the wheel to adjust radio dials. I also had to change the sensitivities on the 6 axis to make it smooth and usable. In the MSFS sensitivities window. This is just an idea for anyone with an old CH Quad (it also has 12 buttons on 6 two way momentary flippers below the levers). But I wouldn't recommend buying the CH Quad because the sensitivities can't be adjusted to work perfectly. Using buttons or key is actually more satisfactory it seems to me.

I did a similar thing but using 3 rotary encoders with button assignments for the movement. Ideal in VR because the default pilot view never seems to be set quite right as default and I can simply move my view either up/down, left/right or forward/backwards using the encoders.

Great info!!! You don't use a eye/head tracker? I use to use these kind of views. I would have a button on my yoke to cycle through them. Then I started using poor mans head tracker. I assign my yoke top hat knob to view all around the cockpit, and then I have a rocker switch on my yoke for zooming in and out.Now I have just bought Beam Eye Tracker, and a web cam. Not sure I can get use to the eye/head tracking. Kinda makes me dizzy...lol. I use it most of the time to just look right and left for traffic.

@IslandSimPilot 3 месяца назад
Hey! I actually use the Tobii eye tracker, it's pretty great. One thing I will recommend is if you can, turn off the eye tracking and just use the Beam as a head tracker. That's what I do with the Tobii, you can adjust how much eye and how much head it tracks. I have it to 100% head tracking, because they eye tracking makes me queasy as well. But you can't really zoom as well as I'd like, which is why I set up these key views. So when I need to I can just hit a key and jump to whatever view I need, and then the rest of the time I have a nice head tracker. Best of both worlds!

awesome video thank you, do it auto save the profile to the plane or do you have to create them and choose the profile per plane each time you use it?
@IslandSimPilot
@IslandSimPilot 3 месяца назад
Hey Scott! It saves to each plane, so you only have to set the cameras up once per airframe. So once you have it set up for the 737, for example, it will work for that plane and any livery you use. I'm not sure if you were to set it up for the 737-800 if it would work for that and the 737 BBJ, for example, but like in this plane, the D18, it will work for any livery I use. Hope that answers your question!

Don't know if you read the comments but I have a Razor mouse with 12 push keys where you just with your thumb push the button that corresponds to the camera you want. With P3D we had Chase Plane and so easy to set up but with fs2020 there is none ---any one know a way to use this mouse with fs2020?
