Easy No Spread Cut Out Sugar Cookies | Just 5 INGREDIENTS!
:: Cook Me Food ::
These sugar cookies are buttery and tender-crisp. They are made for cutting out into shapes as they hold their shape very well when baking. The dough is super easy to roll out and cut - and you only need just 5 basic ingredients. The cookies won’t puff up, so they are perfect for icing and decorating as you please. They are wonderful to serve plain too. NO SPREAD. NO PUFF. JUST 5 INGREDIENTS!
You'll need:
• 1 cup (225g) salted butter (room temperature)
• 1 1/2 cup (180g) powdered sugar/icing sugar
• 1 large egg (room temperature)
• 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
• 3 1/4 cup (422g) all-purpose flour
Cool completely. Serve. Enjoy!
:: HELPFUL HINTS ::
Number of cookies will depend on cut out size and how thick you roll your dough. For thinner cookies, roll out your dough to 1/8" and 1/4" for thicker cookies.
Bake thinner or smaller cookies for 8-10 minutes.
Measure your flour correctly. Adding too much flour will result to crumbly texture or sandy taste when baked. Fluff the flour in the container before scooping it out. Lightly spoon the flour directly into the measuring cup until it mounds well above the top of the measuring cup. Using the back of the dinner knife (non-serrated side is facing the flour), sweep the knife over the top of the cup to remove the excess flour.
Let your cookies cool completely before frosting them. If they are not cool, the icing will melt.

@@annatheresaregidor3688I used a bit less sugar than the recipe in the description says (180g) because I added jam in-between 2 cookies. I used 150 grams of sugar, that's about 3/4 cup

I finished making the dough and for some reason mine was dry and sandy, nothing a little water didn't fix! It smells AMAZING and am patiently awaiting the moment we can bake and taste! I love how you bake and after watching a few videos I'm staying!

Hello Missy! My smile is up to my ears right now. Thank you so much! As for the dough, I’m sorry they came out dry and sandy for you. Common reason this can happen to any cookie recipe is adding too much flour. I always recommend using the spoon and level method in measuring the flour, if digital scale is unavailable. And yes, gradually adding milk/liquid (1 teaspoon at a time) and mix after each addition until you reached the appropriate consistency really does fix dry and crumbly dough. Hope the cookies turned out well.😊

Echoing other comments about this actually being a "no spread" recipe, these are fantastic! We were so excited to make them that we didn't see the part about chilling the dough, but the cookies turned out perfectly crispy. We pressed sprinkles on top before baking to give them a festive look.

I will tell you how wonderful this recipe is. I’m making Autumn cookies with my toddler and I had to put the dough in the fridge for 2/3 days before cutting shapes out. The first batch I made was in the oven only and they came out perfectly shaped, no spread and no bubbles and tasty. For the second batch, the oven stopped working halfway through. I ended up trying to bake them in the microwave after half baking in oven. After I got the oven to work again, I put them back in there once more. They came out perfectly shaped, albeit with a few bubbles. Thank you so much for this recipe 🙏🏽🩵

Thank you for this recipe, my cookie dough is in the fridge. But for some reason my dough was dry and sandy 😅 I made sure to measure the flour as you mentioned and sifted it . I ended adding about 1/4 cup of milk to make it smooth as your. I hope they bake well ❤. Thank you again

Hello!@@RinnieButterfly Yes, there are other cookie recipes that do not require eggs and they are mostly for butter cookies. However, for this cookie recipe, we do require an egg as it acts as a binder for the dry ingredients. This binding effect makes the cookies more stable when being decorated with icing. Also, the egg (especially the egg yolk) provides extra moisture to the cookies. Hope this helps.😊

Just made a pile of these for a bake sale this monday. i'm used to regular old chocolate chip cookies, i have no experience with cookie cutters or sugar cookies so this was something new. and it was a positive experience. the taste reminds me of animal crackers. i kinda wish I had tossed in a bit of cinnamon, cocoa or maybe used pumpkin spice extract instead of vanilla, but i decided it wasn't necessary since I will be spreading different flavored chocolate on the backs. also..... as i got towards the end of my ingredients I was tired of rolling out the dough. so after i removed the cut-outs and had them on my cookie sheet i tossed the "scraps" onto another sheet.... my kids and hubby approved of this since I wouldn't let them have any of the fancy cookies. those odds and ends pieces were exactly the right portions to satisfy them.

However, adding a little cocoa to the mixture would make it a little crumbly as cocoa powder has a drying effect to any baked goods especially if the wet to dry ratio of the ingredients is not properly adjusted.

Just tried this recipe for the first time today…accidentally forgot to add the egg before I added half the flour 😩…that was a crumbly ball of fun 😫.
