My wife of 41 years past away three months ago. She was a habitual collector of "antiques and collectable junque". I have been decluttering one contractor garbage bag at a time. I have so far gotten rid of 43 contractor bags of things I do want and do not need. I am nowhere near done and will not stop until I have gotten rid of every non essential item.
I’m so sorry to hear about your wife’s passing. But also very proud of you for taking steps to decrease the extra items you don’t need. That will make space for the things that remind you of her to really shine. ☺️
I'm wondering, how have I never seen you before - that was an excellent video!! Your home looks amazingly organized and I appreciate you taking us through your decluttering process. Now I;m subscribing!
I like the idea of tackling small areas each day. It works well for my schedule and brain power. If the gift bag itself is still usable, we just place another sticker on top of the old one and keep going!!
What a great video ! Got some good ideas to try. Like you, I don’t have a junk drawer but I do a utility drawer where I keep a mix of items such as the pizza cutter, rice paddle, scissors, flashlight etc. By calling it a utility drawer and not a junk drawer, it helps me avoid just tossing stuff in lol.
Coconut oil as far as I know doesn’t expire. These are just made up dates by the food industry to get to throw away products. We use it to moisturize hair or as body lotion, great for those if you are not going to use it for cooking
Great video! But nail polish and other toiletries like aerosols need to go to toxic waste, and should not go in your regular garbage. I like to keep a small box for hazardous items when im decluttering and then take this to the drop off centre when done my full month of decluttering. Recent tip i found out is that you can also safely dispose of over the counter and prescription medications that are expired or you no longer use by dropping them off at a local pharmacy!
I don't have a junk drawer. I hate them! I've been decluttering since the beginning of the year and I can't believe how much I've gotten rid of. It feels great!
How do I haul everything off . I don’t have donation centers near and it would take hundreds of loads with my truck. No one will pick it up. Tried to have a garage sale put had no help or space .
Do a search on Facebook for a local buy-nothing group. You can post a picture of all the items in a box plus a quick description of some things included. People will take the whole box within a day or two. And this way you know they're going to be used by someone since donation centers throw away more than half of the things they receive.
I love this video!it puts everything into perspective. I think I just have separation anxiety. Because about the time I get rid of one craft items, Guaranteed i'm going to be needing it in the next month. LOL
Totally get that. And sometimes you will get rid of something you need later, but you just have to accept that your home isn’t a storage building so it’s ok to have less. A lot of times you can find another item you have that can be used instead, and if you have to rebuy, try buying a smaller portion or size so you don’t have as much leftover. 🙂 hope that helps!
Great motivation! But, please make sure to recycle, don't just throw everything in the trash! Very bad for the environment. All the stuff you declutter need to be taken to the recycling station and sorted in plastic, wood, toxic waste, paper etc.
If it stops someone from decluttering, just remember at some point it probably will all be trash. Don't let doing it "right" stop you from getting a house you can breathe in
I have to say thank you so much for this video it’s exactly what I need ; I already organized six drawers in my house I feel so good ‘ I’m not doing it in order but at least I’m doing it every day so easy . It doesn’t make me tired or bored bc it’s just little every day - tomorrow I’m doing my night stand😊. Love your videos
I don't think I'd fit in my house anymore with all your things 🙈 I used to be one of those people buying a billion containers to organize her clutter, now I'm limiting the storage space I have - if doesn't fit I have to declutter not find new ways to store more stuff. You have alot of categories in there I don't even own anymore 🙈.
I'm loving that some of these things, like gift wrap and DVDs, I decided to rid completely, so I used the time to move on to the next! Still waiting to find out why not to organize yet.
Where can I find the sliding trays you have in your bathroom, etc?? You are really organized! Do you live in my area? LOL I could use some (a lot of help!!)
When I declutter, I like to do the whole room because I don't have to do any more decluttering the next day. It may take me at least two hours to declutter the whole room, but, it makes me feel so good doing it at that time because I can give it to who ever want it and donate the rest to a thrift store.
That's right. I use a lip brush to get product before sharpening, to not loose it. Nars lip pencils are my favourites. About expire time, I have some of them years ago and they are perfect
