I love any excuse for a good DIY woodworking project! In fact, this cutting table is inexpensive, easy to assemble and it is a versatile option for any one with a small sewing space that needs an extra large cutting table. Seems to good to be true, right? It can be a desk, a sewing table, a cutting table for fabric, a crafting table and the best part is.... you can do-it-yourself! This "professional" style cutting table can be made by hacking an old desk -- I have provided you with my construction plans as a guide if you want to make this yourself at home.

If your not using the floor to cut, what are you currently using to work on? Maybe you hacked your table like I did with bricks (many years ago)? ALSO...Any tips on finishing my wood table top that makes the table "camera safe" would be appreciated - I have yet to come up with a solution. Thanks for watching!

Love this!!! My thought/idea: attach foldout legs to the table top you made. Basically a card table but sturdier. But I am also married to a carpenter. So I recognize that advantage. I will be having him make me this now😂

What a great idea. I wish I could have seen you put the table top on the other table to see how hard it is to do. I think I would need to start lifting weights to pick up a table top that big. 🙂

Fantastic creative way to use existing (so many sturdy bases in secondhand stuff). Another base could be chest of drawers (with caster), and using your same application for the top.

I did this a couple years ago with a little table I got for free. I covered the top with a canvas drop cloth to pin patterns and stuff to it.

Wonderful! I read in that blog, the table she was making had a fabric top (so she could iron on it as well). Sounds like a great idea, but I needed a sturdy top so I can draft patterns.

That's a very practical solution. Loved the draw bolts to secure the top.

OMG - this is genius!! I just spent a day crawling around on the floor, matching plaid and cutting out the pieces for a coat I’m making. My back and knees are killing me!!! This is exactly what I need for my small workspace. Thanks for the plans.

How clever Faren! I have to say this is a very ingenious idea. I also had to be resourceful when building my cutting table. I ended up building it on top of the stairs banister.. The banister height was perfect for my height so I thought it could work. I ended up adding 2 collapsible legs so that it can be put away if need be. Best thing is I only had to buy the collapsible hinges, all the rest came from my old desk which I salvage and chopped into the different parts I now call my cutting table. My takeaway from your table is the fashion in which you prop up the legs, why did I not think of that? so simple, next time I'll try it, way easier than finding long enough legs! Good job, I like the space you’ve created!!

Thank you so much Delfina! Sounds like you created a wonderful space of your own as well and just made it work with what you had - which is the most rewarding challenge. Thank you for sharing 🙏🏼always love hearing how people put there space together.

I really like the idea of the removeable top, and especially the method of attachment. Did you sand or seal the table top at all? My initial thought would be to sand and wax it, but I don't know if the waxing would make the fabric slide around too much when cutting. Most plywood is pretty rough from the lumber yard... MDF Is smoother, but it's really heavy, too.

Thank you. My wood was pretty smooth on top, but I have not sealed the top just yet. I feel like if I seal it, it will be too shiny for the camera and I don't want to buy a new table top if I do seal it and it happens to go badly. 😅But if I were to do this again, I would probably have bought MDF instead. I like how sturdy it is and there are options with a smoother surface. Do you have any advice on how I can seal it, so it is "Camera safe" ?

@@LTRLTrendFashnGuru Got 2 little ones and hardly get time to do something like this. I do have a plan one day to make a shoe rack that can fit in a small space that we have next to the door. Take care 🙂
