This week's #craft project is an easy #DIY necktie skirt, it's a fun way to #recycle some old #neckties into a new #fashion statement. #skirt #clothes #upcycled #sewing
About how long does it take to make this skirt? I have seen some tutorials that take the insides of the ties out and overlap the ties. This way seems a bit quicker and less labor intensive. I want to make a bunch of them for costumes for. a play. Please advise. Thanks
Yeah, this way is definitely a bit quicker (I'm a lazy seamstress, lol, so I didn't want to take all the insides out). It took me a few hours to make this one because I had to figure everything out initially, but if you're streamlining them, you could probably do one an hour (depending how fast your machine is).
I used 16 on mine. It'll vary a bit from person to person, due to different waist sizes, and the width of your ties. An easy way to figure out approx. how many you'll need is to measure your waist, then measure the width of your ties at the length you'll be cutting them. Then just divide your waist measurement, by the tie measurement.
I wish I had thought of this way back when I was 18... I got "talked to" about wearing ties to church... ties are for men. 😡 this would have been awesome to show up in. 😂😂😂
Oh no, not the ties are for men speech... Ha, yeah that would have been a great to walk in with a tie skirt and prove girls wear ties too (Besides, haven't they ever seen private school uniforms, most of 'em have girls wearing ties...)
The Woodland Elf this man was archaic. I wore a simple black tie that first Sunday and he talked to me about it. the next week I wore one with a simple pattern... He talked to me again. the following Sunday I wore one just a little more obnoxious. my dad helped me with it, as the ties were his. every Sunday, the preacher would tell me ties were for men and the next Sunday I'd wear one even worse than before.
the preacher told my mom to stop me. I was 18 so she couldn't. by the time the preacher finally told me I could wear what I wanted, I was wearing my dad's 70s belly-warmer ties in the most hideous colors! 😂😂
Either a skirt or an apron. When you get to dresses, things get complicated with the different widths. But skirts and aprons are pretty simple necktie projects.
S Y Yes, it takes special handling. Hand-crafted items are well worth it! Spot cleaning is best, followed by SOAKING in gentle cleaner (baby shampoo, wool wash). Let the soaking do the majority of the work, then squishing the water through the item like you would a sponge. Rinse thoroughly, roll it into a towel(s) to absorb the moisture. Dry it flat on another dry towel, turning repeatedly. If it’s not too heavy, you MIGHT be able to hang it, but never in the sun. I do lots of crocheting, cross-stitching and hand sewing and this is my experience for best results.
