This is a power monitoring system that I want to use for learning about our energy consumption habits and improve them. It uses a homemade light sensor and an Arduino uno with a data logging shield. The data can be pulled from the SD-card and visualized in Excel.

Interesting concept. Not one I've seen before. I have a Pi setup to take a photo every hour, but I have to enter the figures manually

Very nice and simple implementation! I've been thinking of something similar, but I was planning to use an ESP32 instead so I can log it straight to a computer through wifi. In my experience most SD cards tend to die after a little while with these types of usage patterns.

So having made this, you'll probably get a notice from the utilities company next week, that they are going to swap your meter for a digital one.

But digital ones have blinking light you can also catch the same way? Or they don't in DE?

@@vkalvaitis Digital meters (or at least the ones in the Netherlands) have a serial output port for logging. Much more convenient!
