This is such a great idea. Cute and functional. I think metal on one side , either the base or adhesive backed metal squares ( they can be purchased on Amazon for a minimal cost) that are for makeup tins will solve the problem.
Great to see somebody else cottoned on. Because i have been using a cd case with jam lid in middle and bottle tops for paint holders. I cut those two plastic clips of top so i can fit my 5 x 7 block. Or like you say just carry 1 or two bits of paper. The whole set up with wee metal clip pot with water weighs in with the block and paper towel etc all set up at 260grams. So its easy as hell to stand or sit and do your stuff.
That's awesome that you thought of this too! I always try to figure out lighter painting options. I enjoy finding creative ways of reusing or repurpose things. Thank you for sharing your ideas about cutting off the clips and the bottle caps. I love having light weight options for standing to paint. There is not always a place to sit when you are hiking outdoors.
Very nice idea!! So I had been looking at the underside of butter tubs or cottage cheese lids. They are exactly the same and they looked like a little pallet to me with shallow wells around the edge. the thing is they are also are almost the same size as a CD. So I took a cd and traced the center hole and cut it out and it snaps on the CD thingy. I wish I could show you pix but I dont think I can in this comment.
Brilliant! I modified your idea. The box I used had the bit in the center that stuck up too high so I cut it out. I have lots of magnets from businesses so I cut one to fit and glued it with double stick tape for scrape book use. Thanks!
Thank you so much! The one I used had some plastic tabs that stuck up too. I just cut them out as well. I’m so glad you were able to use this idea. It’s one of the lightest setups that I found. Best wishes!
Hi Kimberly :) very fun video!! You have so many creative ideas! Its awesome :) and I'd have never thought all that could fit in there and have it shut!! Thats so cool!!! You always have the best tips for loads of different kits and things. Thanks for that!! Oh, another place I got magnets for cheap was at places like Lowe's or Home Depot, they sell these vent covers...and its just a sheet of magnet that you lay on your metal vent where you don't want any heat or air to leak through a closed vent. But you do have to glue it though. I just used both super glue and/or that other one...my brain isn't working...it's in a silver tube and says 6000 something on it. Anyway...if you need a lot and cheap those are pretty great. :) And yea, I'm sure it was just just polarization of those magnets that made them not want to stick as well. But I alsoove using those eyeshadow things...especially the long rectangular ones...not sure why, but I love that shape so love having pretty paint in them too :) and we pay enough for make up, even though I don't wear much at all and I'm cheap about what I do buy, but, it still adds up, so I hang on to everything like you do because there's always other fun stuff to use them for :) especially with watercolor...and its super fun, I think, to open the eyeshadow cases and see it filled with gorgeous colors of paint :) I keep so many odds n ends of things too...cuz you never know what fun can be made with them :) I hope you're doing well :)❤ Great video once again!!!
Thank you for the vent magnet tip. I will have to try to remember to pick on up the next time I go to a place that sells them. Yes, I love finding ways to repurpose things. I save cute containers rather than tossing them in the trash. I know I will find a use for them one day. I guess I get that from my mother. Eye shadow palettes make great painting palettes! I'm doing well, I hope you are too! Take care! 🙂
@@kimberlyhyltonart I save that stuff too! My husband teases me because I'll grab something and there are of course different brands or sizes of things and he'll say "are you buying that one cuz you like the packaging?" 🤣😆🤣😆 he knows me too well...which he should of course since the 30th of this month is out 31st wedding anniversary :) but its fun to be able to put things to good use and not waste :) I'm glad you're good :) I'm ok. The surgery i had back in March took a bad turn with some significant and life altering complications. So....I'm pushing hard to get at least some use of my arm back but they don't know how much I'll get back (I went in with full use of it) and my diaphragm on the right side is paralyzed and floated up crushing my right lung so now I can't breathe well and can't do any of my deep belly breathing that I desperately need to deal with my ptsd, chronic pain and anxiety, so that's been hard. On oxygen now at home and my new doctor says it'll probably be easily a year or more before we know if the diaphragm will wake up or if it's just gone and this is it. None of this was even mentioned as a possibility and he had no idea for 8 days in hospital as to why it was happening and was only concerned about himself and just kept saying he did a perfect job so must be me🙄 so....having a rough time physically and emotionally. Just taking me a minute to wrap my head around this sudden massive change. Our son is coming to visit and I know he's been worried, but I also hate for him to see me this way. Its different hearing about it and seeing it. I have to sleep sitting up in the living room..I'm very weak and very easily fatigued...so I won't be able to get things cleaned up as I'd planned before he came...I'm also not going to be able to cook and bake all his favorite stuff as I wanted to do and had fun art stuff we'd do and just knowing I won't have the energy to even stay awake through a full movie or anything 🥺😭 I also know he'll hate seeing me like this. He's had to see me deal with a lot through the years, but this debacle has been the scariest and most unexpected thing so far, and that's including a broken back and replacing both knees st the same time (which was the best way to do it for me for sure!!) ...but this has been crazy and having such serious and long term side effects has thrown all of us a good bit. It's been a LOT on my sweet husband. All the cooking and cleaning, having my many meds laid out, having to help me do literally everything...all while trying to find work...but missing so many weeks cuz of me has been rough and we were in a bad place already. He's exhausted and stressed, but never complains and tries to seem like he's fine. So...I hate being this burden that I always am. He gets upset when I say that...I know my husband and son don't think twice about helping me, same I don't don't in the reverse....but its always hard being the person having to be taken care of cuz you sit there watching him run around knowing he's exhausted and its because of me...but, I know its how it works...just frustrated :) But...we'll figure it out. I allow myself time to be upset when each new thing breaks in this body, which is almost daily at this point, but that's because I know I'll wrap my head around it, box it up and move forward. But this one was SO completely unexpected, especially the long term stuff we recently found out about...so its taking me longer to get myself together after this...but...I do know it'll come. I'm pushing hard to get whatever use I can back in my arm. Nothing I do can help the diaphragm, that just a wait n see thing, which is good to know since my.old doc told me it was my fault. So, it'll take a bit, but we'll figure out how to live this new version of our life and make the best of it :) I'm not fully there yet....but I know I'll get there eventually :) we always do :) Sorry...an emotional day so stuff keeps spewing out😳🙄🤦🏼♀️ But again, very happy to have the ability to see all these lovely art videos to have at least this access to art which is awesome :) Sorry for the babble....so sorry.... Thanks again for sharing all your fun stuff!!!!❤💕
@@jadedenthusiasms Hi Jade, I'm sorry, I thought I replied to this. I hate to hear that you are having such a rough time right now. I hope your health is improving and you are on the other side of this very soon. Thank you for all the sweet comments! Take care and best wishes for a happy summer with good health and the freedom to paint something you enjoy.
What a handy little travel palette! Is a game case the same size as a dvd case? Are they thicker? I’m not familiar with their size. (I’m old! Lol) You can also find magnetic strips and magnetic sheets at Walmart in the craft section. The sheets are about 5.5 x 8.5 inches. Thanks for sharing such a clever idea!
Thank you! Yes, I just compared the game case and DVD case and the are the same size. So both will work for this. I went with the game case because I wanted to use a white case. But, color doesn’t really matter. Just be sure the plastic behind the CD is solid. I have some cases that have what looks like pie slices where cut out. They all have some kind of tabs that hold the CD in place. I just snapped mine off so I would have a flat surface to glue the magnet to. Thank you for the magnet tip! Good luck! Please let me know how it works out if you make one. 🙂
