I saw this recipe posted on Facebook once. I've been using it over a year it works fine. I use one gallon of household vinegar 2 cups of Epsom salt and a quarter cup of blue dawn. It works for the weeds in cracks in concrete and weeds coming up in landscape rocks.

Vinegar is okay to use in your garden, it's the salt that's bad for your garden. It doesn't evaporate ... vinegar and a little dishsoap alone will kill weeds in a produce garden. 💖🌞🌵😷

I've been using 30% vinegar from Lowes. The only place I've seen 45% is Amazon and it's pricey so I'm using 30% with less dilution of water

Great tip! My garden has been super attacked by weeds this year so I planned to drench the beds in weed killer in the next off season. Now I don't have to use the chemical stuff that's bad for everything and everyone. Thanks!

Hi, I use to spray the grass under electric fencing on my farm for years and the most helpful thing was an additive I put into the spray. This was a BEEN THERE - RED SPRAY MARKER DYE FOR HERBICIDES. I don’t know what they cal it in the States, but get it as it will save you money as you will see what you have covered. Cheers mate. Harera

The weed seeds might have been introduced with the gravel. When gravel was dumped along the roadway by our home, new weeds were introduced through the dumping of the gravel. Weeds that were not here before.

I switched from roundup to 30% vinegar a number of years ago. Breathing the vinegar is as bad as roundup just natural. Wear a mask ! Especially if your garden (like mine) is bordered by a fence no airflow. Avoid windy days too. I only spray the ground and have raised garden beds.

I use cleaning vinegar with the salt and soap. It's effective -- just not as fast as that potent stuff.

I use the liquid in dehumidifiers after the crystals have dissolved. I think the chemical is calcium chloride, which is about as poisonous as sodium chloride (common salt).

Been down that road. I’ve done the 45% and it work very quickly but established weeds with tap roots need to be sprayed again. I refuse to spend that $50 every few weeks for a very very short term solution. 5% works well some grasses but even at $3/gal. It really adds up. I’ve gone back to pulling and black poly.

Other than propane maybe costing more, and the possibility of catching things on fire depending on where you do it, did you consider doing the 'weed torch' method to burn the weeds? That is cool to know the vinegar worked...only thing I would have done different, I totally would have worn my vapor safe mask vs chancing breathing it. Good job :)

My experience it does kill weeds and grass, for a time, it doesnt seem to get the root. I feel like I am playing wackamole- one weed dies, another pops up near then the dead one comes back

I doubt that the grass and weeds came up through the weed barrier. Seeds from nearby plants more than likely were blown onto the driveway and took root in the dirt in your gravel mix. Seeds will root in washed gravel grasses are especially tenacious

Agree. So with the weed barrier it should be easy to rake all that new growth loose. I've been battling a gravel driveway for years with no weed barrier and found vinegar and salt pretty effective. Established weeds and grasses with about a year of root might take two applications. It's not working well for any rhizomatous vines or grasses like bermuda. Also, be aware that killing weeds and leaving debris in the gravel will compost and become soil. Every year it builds up and the problem multiplies - so I've started saturating the gravel very early every spring and repeat throughout the summer as needed to catch them before they become large weeds and stems :)

I wonder if this is a pre-emergent, too? Like, will it prevent weed seeds from germinating? Glyphsophate does not.

No it wont work for that. It really dosnt even work for a weed killer because it dosnt kill the root. After about a week and some decent rain all those weeds will be coming right back from the root.

Ended up with non hodgekins lymphoma cancer from round up. I've been fighting it for 17 years as of Feb. 2023. It's a rough road to go down!

You also want to add a tablespoon of dish soap...it breaks the surface tension and helps the plants absorb the vinegar, instead of sitting on top of the leaves. 💖🌞🌵😷

Using weed barriers actually just creates another soil layer. So, weeds grow from the barrier up. Do not use weed barriers.

I used it to keep the soil from absorbing the gravel which worked as intended. Otherwise you’re buying new gravel every couple years.

Oh, gosh, where are your chemical goggles? You told us what it would do to skin, can you imagine what it would do to your eyes? You should have them to top off your batteries if they're lead acid anyway. Always use real chemical goggles, not the cheap goggles you get from the hardware store. I don't mean to jump on your case, I once had the remnants of a chemical tanker trailer sprayed all over me and my truck. It turned out to be concentrated sulfuric acid. I should have been instantly permanently blinded. Fortunately, I was wearing prescription glasses and I had just turned my head and looked straight at the guy who opened the valve of the pressurized tanker so, yea, I'm a bit of a safety sally when it comes to eyes. A respirator may not be out of line either. Lung tissue and all.

@@mizzchuz.6413 The only dumb question is the one unasked. Yes, It can affect wildlife when it is being applied and still wet. As long as it isn't sprayed directly on to the wildlife, there should be no problems as it dissipates over time.
