Wife's pump went out on Tahoe. First vid I saw was yours. Before I watched the end of this video I was going to tell u how blessed I was to find your helpful video. I asked The Lord to help me several times while changing the pump and watching your video. So I get done and crank it up and watched the end of your vid to find out you are a brother of mine in Christ. I hope The Lord blesses you for this video. Thank you for the video and being a light in a dark world! God bless you!

I doubt the OP will see this comment since the video is 9yrs old but it’s worth leaving it anyway. Today I tackled this project with my son on our 01 Tahoe. It’s needed a new water pump for a long time. I was reluctant to take this on, not because I don’t know what I’m doing because I do. I’m a pretty smart DIY guy, worked in many trades and I do pretty well with just about anything. I’ve worked on cars all my life unprofessionally. Problem with me and cars is, when it comes to things like this something unexpected happens and it turns into a shit storm. I went in to this expecting the fan not to come off or like 5 out of the 6 water pump mounting bolts to snap off in the block. Not because I did anything wrong , just because that’s the normal crap that happens to me. I have to say, after watching this video it gave me the shot in the arm I needed to do it. My son and I did it together as he’s new to working on cars. Welp… it went perfectly! The fan broke loose with one whack, no bolts snapped and no unforeseen issues! I know this is typically an hour job, it took us 4. Only because I was taught in high school auto shop class over 3 decades ago. “If you remove it… clean it, paint it before putting it back on!” Needless to say, the engine compartment is squeaky clean and fresh now. Only thing I did additionally that was not mentioned is I changed the thermostat and I torqued everything to spec. Water pump 11 ft. lbs (first pass) then 22 ft. lbs. final pass. Thermostat housing 22 ft lbs Idler pulley and tensioner pulley 37 ft. lbs. Thank you OP for your excellent video and uplifting words. It was a great project for me and my son to do for some bonding and my truck runs great! The heat is lava hot now too! 🙂

See this positivity and leadership, this generation has that mentality! I am a generation below him and will do my best to keep this type of thinking and teaching continued on down the road, this is how positive influence can greater society, we need to help each other and stop relying on technology for everything. If that statement sounds contradictory, it’s not, I know these type of people and always vacuum up their knowledge! This man is the definition of a “Real one”! I wish the youth would understand how beneficial the old school mentality is and create a bond to help each other learn from The old and new! Thanks my man, you are a legend!

Hey oldskool! Great video. I hadn't worked on my own car since the 80's. I watched another video before watching yours. It didn't look too bad of a job but... It was your video that gave me the encouragement to get out there and take care of business. I knocked it out in no time. Thanks for the tip on making a bolt template to keep the bolts in the right place. Did it just the way you said bro. Kicked it! You said it: "It that simple man. You can do it man." "The question is: Do you have the will power?" Jesus lead me to your video and through you gave me the faith to do it! Keep speaking the truth. Jesus is the answer! Blessings my brother. See you there!!

I watched your video this morning because the water pump on my 2001 Chevy Silverado (4.8L v8) was weeping. I pulled the old one in drizzling rain, and had trouble getting the fan off of it, but I got it done, and had everything buttoned back up just before the bottom fell out (rain). Thanks for posting such content! Even though you uploaded this vid years ago, it continues to be relevant!

I was sitting on Sun at 10:00 am in my PJs. My truck had bled dexcool on the driveway Fri evening and weird things had happend a couple days ago. I'd had a 'REDUCED ENGINE POWER' message and my truck had almost died on the highway which I didn't understand. I had already figured it out and purchased the water pump and parts but was going to give up, take it in to a mechanic on Mon and pay through the nose. Then I put this video on. Thought it was just like the usual how-to until the end. I realize now that I was afraid to take the job on for no other reason than my mindset was wrong. The talk pumped me up instantly. By the end I said to myself DAMN LETS GO MAN and busted out to the garage. I removed all the parts, flushed my coolant, reassembled and installed everything back. Then as I was flipping through my Haynes to double check something, I read that the "REDUCED ENGINE POWER" message that had come on my panel a couple days ago was caused by the failed water pump and that the consequent shutting down of cylinders had corrupted my oil with gasoline. I changed the oil immediately before starting the engine. If I hadn't done the job myself, I would never have found this out and driven my car to a mechanic who would probably not have changed the oil. I would have LOST MY ENGINE!!! Thank you man for kicking my butt. You are right, don't EVER give up. Your words saved my truck from immediate damage. Lets hope there was no perm damage from the overheat.

Hi I just read your comment. I may be buying a 2003 with this condition. Thanks for the tip about changing the oil. Did yours OVERHEAT? That’s what I am praying doesn’t happen to this vehicle before or after I get it. It belongs to my son. I told him as long as he repairs it, it passes State and Emissions I may buy it.
