Managed to fix mine by following this but didn’t file it down. Just the act of taking it apart, putting the plastic part into the lock and putting it back together has made it tighter - was slipping previously. Have seen a replacement part on eBay for this which is extra long, so if it fails again I’ll try replacing it with one of those.
Chris Daniels glad it helped you. That plastic bit is too short and the one on eBay is to long best get it as they old one will push back again after a while.
Bought the plastic bit gonna try this when it comes. Surely after taking the 10mm bolts out I'll need to remove grill standing at front of car? Your actually opening it with a screwdriver all that can't be done from underneath surely?
When you take out the 2 10m bolts grab hold and gently pull the lock back towards the engine then go to front of car and lift the bonnet up there is a plug that needs to come before you lift bonnet right up then you can take the bonnet lock off with a screwdriver.
James Art when you take out the 2 bolts just grab the bonnet catch and wiggle it and it comes off, I opened the bonnet from the outside with the catch in closed position that’s why I broke the lug off. Good luck 👍
thankyou, I got the two bolts out pulled the catch unit it towards engine and it still wont open. I try wiggling it tomorrow probally my hands a bit big for it. @@petertrotter7669
Martin Cooper the plastic piece is to long to fit so you have to cut it down and sand it down to get it to fit snugly if you watch the video I show both the pieces old and new.
its your car, cut it if you want however i wouldnt and i havent i bought the piece for 4.95 and replaced mine as is works the same however when i fit my grill its stiffer maybe thats my installation error and i need to reposition my barrel
I second this, you don't have to cut the new part down. The whole point of it is that it is longer than the original. The lock fits together fine when leaving it long
