Ill show you two different builds using a custom base cabinet with little to no knowledge of arcade building prior to this build. No background in electronics needed for either one of these projects.
Great to see just a normal bloke in his garage building something. Rather than some of these youtubers who whip out a full blown workshop with 1000s of pounds worth of equipment. Well done. Much love and respect from little ol England. Ive got the electronic knowlede but not the woodwork. Hence why im here 😁😅. I made a pi for the tv downstairs but im using a windows pc with attract mode for something beefier.
If I had the skills I would build a stand around the TV so it looks connected, still at that distance, so still stays as a pedestal built. Similar to what the CRTs had back in the day. So even if this is flat screen you would still be able to add artwork around it. I actually wouldn't mind the bulkiness because it would still be more impressive that way.
Game room solutions stuff looks top notch. Love they Popeye all in one bar top. Looks amazing. All there stuff looks pretty solid. Smartest thing to do is just buy the top build the base I already have the tv for it. Boom.
out of all the arcade build's I've seen on RU-vid, yours is the best! I was watching a ton, and I kept saying to myself why don't people just save a ton of time and buy a pandora's box first off, nd secondly, why buy a monitor fit it into the cabinet etc just build the base and wire it to a big ass LED tv. I guess if you want the vintage style you can build a vintage arcade box but my style is all about bringing the vintage games into the modern day with a modern aesthetic look, and you did that 1000%. Amazing work.
Gonna buy game room solutions. Those guys work is sick and have amazing rep. Need to build pedastool want to add something to hold guns for the shooting games
Are you happy with the Pandora’s box and where did you purchase? Amazing work dude love it. Weighing all my options but I want the same set up with tv mounted on the wall.
Where did you get the Raspberry Pi with all the games. I like the clean front end menu how you navigate all the consoles and games with the animation. Do you have more info you can share on that?
The pedalstool is super stable. No movement. Looking at the angles I worried about the same you are, but it’s the perfect design and balances perfectly. You want to make sure the controls are sitting over the top of the main base.
I believe that TV is 50”. It’s a 10 year old LCD/LED by Samsung. Used to be the top of the line. Most games are tolerable graphics wise. Newer games looks pretty darn good, older games, well, they are old and look as such
do games like Golden Tee, NFL Blitz, and 64 games like Wayne Gretzky's 360 hockey actually work on that raspberry pi model? I just got a raspberry pi 3+ and everything I have been reading says that 3d games don't work and to stick with the early 90s arcade stuff.
Used 3/4" MDF. I would go with the correct gaming height for you. My base on the sides is 24? the width is 24". This is mostly due to me not owning a table saw. YOu can buy 24x48 sheets of mdf at Home Depot or Lowes
I would recommend buying the UI (user interface) and games on a site like Etsy. www.etsy.com/listing/640553111/retropie-microsd-sd-card-6320-retro?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=arcade+game+card&ref=sc_gallery-1-2&plkey=429038b1299a2166f1268cc6e1721c8674bae067%3A640553111&frs=1
@@astropixTX ohhhh nice so the only thing making it look curved is the laminate? Great idea I think I like this pedestal idea better than the old school full arcade cabinet.
I would just use MDF, especially if you plan to laminate like I did. If you want to paint I would use a high end plywood... MDF $40 for 4’x8’ sheet. 4’x8’ sheet of Formica is about $75. Nice plywood would range from $50-100 probably.
Where did you get the golden tee rom from? And you took the GRS board and added the trackball yourself? I assume just plugs into a USB port on the pie?
The Golden Tee games came with the GRS Board. The trackball is also an upgrade option with the GRS board. It does just plug in via USB to the Raspberry Pi
These came loaded from Game a Room Solutions. I would also check Etsy as there are several good options with the UI and games loaded on a card for rreally cheap.
@@rhawkins2003 I don’t think so, but you may have to back up the pedestal a little bit. Also, remember most of the graphics from these games is not what you see today. Bigger TV means poorer graphics are more noticeable.
